Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though it has long been appreciated that materials differ in their response to heavy-ion irradiation, the reasons for this are not yet fully understood. To more fully characterize the effects of material, alloying element, irradiation temperature and ion dose on the probability of collapse of a displacement cascade, Cu, Ni, and dilute Ni alloys (Ni-Si and Ni-Al) have been irradiated with 50 and 100 keV heavy-ions (Kr$\sp+$ and Ni$\sp+$) at both 30 and 300K, and to doses ranging from 10$\sp{15}$-10$\sp{17}$ ions m$\sp{-2}$. The irradiations resulted in the formation of vacancy dislocation loops which were examined in a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and characterized by their size, Burgers vector, and formation probability. For some of the irradiations, the HVEM-Accelerator Facility and Argonne National Laboratory was used. This facility is unique in that it allows irradiation and microstructural examination to be performed at temperatures where there is no long-range point defect mobility and the examination of the same area of sample at different dose levels.

Download or read book Nuclear Science Abstracts written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NSA is a comprehensive collection of international nuclear science and technology literature for the period 1948 through 1976, pre-dating the prestigious INIS database, which began in 1970. NSA existed as a printed product (Volumes 1-33) initially, created by DOE's predecessor, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). NSA includes citations to scientific and technical reports from the AEC, the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration and its contractors, plus other agencies and international organizations, universities, and industrial and research organizations. References to books, conference proceedings, papers, patents, dissertations, engineering drawings, and journal articles from worldwide sources are also included. Abstracts and full text are provided if available.

Book Synopsis Void Swelling of Copper and Copper Alloys Induced by Heavy Ion Irradiation by : T. Muroga
Download or read book Void Swelling of Copper and Copper Alloys Induced by Heavy Ion Irradiation written by T. Muroga and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microstructures of Cu, Cu-5Ni and Cu-3.5Zn irradiated with heavy ions at 523 K to 773 K to a dose of 15 dpa were examined. The addition of nickel or zinc was shown to result in an upward shift of the peak void swelling temperature. Although the results are consistent with those of a previous fast neutron irradiation experiment taking difference in the damage rate into account, the microstructural processes seem not to be a simple shift of temperature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A precipitation-hardened nickel 14 atom percent aluminum alloy has been irradiated with 2.8 MeV 58Ni+ ions at a damage rate of 4.4 x 10-2 displacements per atom (dpa)/s, over a temperature range of 525 to 725 °C (977 to 1337 °F), to a damage level of 20 dpa, and at 625 °C (1157°F) over a dose range of 4 to 125 dpa. The experiment was designed to examine the stability of Ni3Al precipitates as a function of temperature and dose as well as their role in reducing swelling.

Book Synopsis Effect of Irradiation Parameters on Nickel-Ion Damage in Nickel by : PR. Malmberg
Download or read book Effect of Irradiation Parameters on Nickel-Ion Damage in Nickel written by PR. Malmberg and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Void and dislocation structures have been studied in high-purity nickel which had been irradiated with 2.8 MeV38 Ni+ ions. The irradiation conditions included specimen temperatures between 325 and 725°C, calculated peak damage densities from 4 to 130 displacements per atom (dpa), and calculated peak displacement rates of 7 x 10-2 dpa/s and 7 x 10-4 dpa/s. For the irradiations at 7 x 10-2 dpa/s, voids were formed in specimens irradiated between 525 and 725°C. The maximum swelling at a damage level of 13 dpa was ?V/V = 1.2 percent, observed in a specimen irradiated at 625°C. Irradiation of the same material to 13 dpa at 7 x 10-4 dpa/s shifted the void formation temperatures approximately 100°C lower and produced a maximum swelling of 2.3 percent at 550°C. For specimens irradiated at a displacement rate of 7 x 10-2 and a irradiation temperature of 575°C, the material was found to swell at a relatively rapid rate to a value of ?V/V = 0.9 percent at 13 dpa. Above 13 dpa, the swelling rate was lower, and a value of ?V/V = 2.2 percent was reached at 130 dpa. The results of analyses of these data by void nucleation and growth models are discussed.
