Book excerpt: Don and Karen Clifford are life-long Christians whose marriage and faith have survived the loss of three of their living children. Because of their total dependence on God during the multiple losses, they began to learn things about surviving grief that aren't covered in the textbooks. They not only learned how to survive the losses, but how to recover in a reasonable time and return to a joyous Christian life. They simply learned (sometimes through trial and error) to avail themselves of the helps and comforts God provides. Don and Karen discuss the help they found and how God's provisions are all part of His all-sufficient grace. They offer practical guidance to help avoid traps that can easily lead to continuing sorrow. They focus on the recovery process and the spiritual lessons that can help the grieving individual find healing and go on to a full and happy life. As young parents, Don and Karen lost their 2-year old son Mike, who suffered from seizures, when he suffocated in his bedding in the night. A few years later, their baby daughter Rachel contracted spinal meningitis at 3 months but lived in a severely brain-damaged body for over 3 years. Finally, their 5-year old daughter Beth, who also suffered seizures, died in a bathtub drowning accident at the age of five. Two of their daughters survived and are now married and have given Don and Karen six grandchildren. Both Don and Karen have served faithfully in their churches, team teaching adult Bible classes for most of their adult lives. Don worked as an aerospace engineer while Karen was kept busy in the home with their children. Later Karen became a travel agent and the couple traveled extensively, leading or participating in mission trips around the world. They are now retired and reside in St. Charles, Missouri

Is there a normal way to feel, think - grieve? Would my heart, my family ever heal? This book is literally lifted from my journals over the years as we encountered the unfathomable, the death of our son. My desire is to share a journey of hope and healing. This book tells our story but also delves into other areas such as: death, heaven, suicide, and ways to help families and children during times of grief. I pray it is a valuable resource to you.

After losing my son to suicide, it became absolutely necessary for me to understand what Sam was experiencing in the heavenly realms. Searching the Scriptures was the only way I knew how to gain reassurance in the reality of heaven. I saw so much more than I ever had before, even though I had read through the Bible repeatedly throughout my Christian life. When I was in despair and needed answers, God opened my eyes and heart to apprehend the truths that are contained in His Word. The goal of this book is to comfort others with the comfort I have been given. The journey of grief should not be taken alone. God has provided His Word and His saints in the Church to help others along a very difficult, but potentially fruitful, pathway of recovering from significant loss.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes, when the worst becomes reality, God turns theoretical musing into heavenly experience. Al Hallene discovered his college-student son’s body after Alex hanged himself. While Al waited for the authorities to arrive, he had ten minutes alone with his son. During that wrenching time, God gave Al eight visions of heaven, where the father and son would someday reunite. As Al recounts those heartening and healing moments, readers are reminded of the affirming hope that Christians share even while asking the real questions tragedy raises: Will we see our lost loved ones again? Does God care about our pain? What does this mean for us now? The Hope of Heaven is a very different kind of heaven book: rather than an argument for the existence of heaven or an account of an out-of-body experience, Alan Hallene gives readers a glimpse of life beyond the tragedies we endure.

Book excerpt: One in four. These are the odds for pregnancy and infant loss. In the weeks and months following her daughter Kailani’s death, LaCara Biddles encountered multiple layers of grief that had to be navigated to facilitate her healing. Many of these layers are unknown territory to others until they, too, are faced with the harsh reality of pregnancy or infant loss. Heavenly Seas invites parents dealing with pregnancy or infant loss to take what resonates with them to support their journey of grief. Some of the methods discussed—which allowed LaCara to transition from an all-consuming state of mourning and grief to a state where both grief and joy coexist in her life—include: • Giving yourself permission to grieve • Creating memorials • Keeping a journal If you’ve lost a child, Heavenly Seas seeks to remind you that you are not alone. There is light at the end of the tunnel. It might take weeks, months, or years to realize this. The more we take care of ourselves during our grief journey, the easier it becomes to see the light.

The story is interwoven with Old Testament stories and related Bible verses. Congratulations and sympathy cards are all rolled up into one tiny bundle of twins. Each chapter ends with "MY God is bigger than..." to give readers a stance to reflect upon and reassurance before reading further. The focus is on Satan's harm turned into God's goodness. The author simultaneously experiences grief and joy. Facing more sickness and hospitals, a mother's anguishing hell turns into a haven of healing. She continues to go through mourning with hope, reclaiming lost joy and living out a life of empathy for others. The story challenges one to overcome circumstances and place life ultimately in God's hands.

"Tears in a Bottle; A Journey Through Grief" will encourage you and point you to the eternal source of comfort. A cliché people often use is "read them and weep," I suggest you read these pages and find joy in the tears. Pastor Ted Taylor, Olive Baptist Church, Pensacola, FL

The story tore at my heart and, more than once, I felt my eyes well up with tears. Then I felt the joy of Ms. Vijay's faith that God would rejoin them in heaven. I felt the powerful strength that Rebecca showed throughout this book, and I'm so grateful that she share this very personal part of her life with us. I am proud to say that I am a *virtual* acquaintance of Rebecca's." Denise "This is one of those rare reads where the author has the ability to connect with you on a soul level in pure honesty. Even though I've never lost a child, I have lost family members and could connect with her emotional journey. The poignant thing this book points out, is that the usual consoling comments we receive from people, often times cause more stress than help. A reminder to us all to be aware of our words during times of grief and stress." Brenda "Very moving, honest and praise-worthy. It will take you on a very intimate and emotional ride. Highly recommended." Elen "It's true that the emotional pain hurts more than physical pain..." Sheetal
