Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review of a comprehensive experimental investigation of the heat transfer and boundary layer in 30 deg to 15 deg and 60 deg to 15 deg conical nozzles is presented. The experiments were conducted with air at a stagnation temperature of 539 K (970 R) and throat Reynolds numbers based on a diameter ranging from 6 x 10 to the 5th power to 5 x 10 to the 6th power. Nozzle wall surface finish was varied from a smooth machine finish to a 826 x 10 to the minus 6th power cm (325 x 10 to the minus 6th in.) rms sandblasted finish. Measured heat transfer and wall temperatures are tabulated.

This book was released on 1971 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to provide a relatively simple heat-transfer prediction along a nozzle, a differential (similar-solution) analysis for the turbulent boundary layer is developed. This analysis along with a new correlation for the turbulent Prandtl number gives good agreement of the predicted with the measured heat transfer in the throat and supersonic regiono f the nozzle. Also, the boundary-layer variables (heat transfer, etc. ) can be calculated at any arbitrary location in the throat or supersonic region of the nozzle in less than a half minute of computing time (Lewis DCS 7094-7044).

Book Synopsis Turbulence, Heat-Transfer, and Boundary Layer Measurements in a Conical Nozzle with a Controlled Inlet Velocity Profile by :
Download or read book Turbulence, Heat-Transfer, and Boundary Layer Measurements in a Conical Nozzle with a Controlled Inlet Velocity Profile written by and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulence, heat-transfer, and boundary layer measurements were obtained in a conical nozzle operating in air at a nominal total temperature and pressure of 960 deg. R and 300 psia, respectively. Experimental heat-transfer coefficients were compared to values determined by three prediction techniques; namely, (1) Nusselt number correlation, (2) a compressible boundary layer theory, and (3) an incompressible boundary layer theory. Methods (1) and (2) yielded nozzle heat-transfer coefficients that were appreciably higher than experimental values; however, method (3) predicted the nozzle heat-transfer coefficients very well yielding results that were within about 2 percent of the experimental values at the throat. In part of the investigation a simulated nuclear reactor core turbulence generator installed 3 inches upstream of the cylindrical inlet failed to alter the nozzle heat-transfer coefficients. In addition, the turbulence generator had essentially no effect on the boundary layer temperature profiles in the nozzle.
Book Synopsis Prediction of Local and Integrated Heat Transfer in Nozzles Using an Integral Turbulent Boundary Layer by : Donald R. Boldman
Download or read book Prediction of Local and Integrated Heat Transfer in Nozzles Using an Integral Turbulent Boundary Layer written by Donald R. Boldman and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An empirical modification of an existing integral energy turbulent boundary layer method is proposed in order to improve the estimates of local heat transfer in converging-diverging nozzles and consequently, provide better assessments of the total or integrated heat transfer. The method involves the use of a modified momentum-heat analogy which includes an acceleration term comprising the nozzle geometry and free stream velocity. The original and modified theories are applied to heat transfer data from previous studies which used heated air in 30 deg - 15 deg, 45 deg - 15 deg, and 60 deg - 15 deg water-cooled nozzles.

This book was released on 1973 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents heat-transfer-rate measurements on sharp and blunt 10-deg half-angle cones at angles of attack between -9 and +10 deg in a low-density, hypersonic wind tunnel. Circumferential and longitudinal distributions are presented for cold wall conditions for a range at Mach and Reynolds numbers. The effect of source-like flows was studied by utilizing both conical and contoured expansion nozzles with the same free-stream similarity parameters and model wall temperatures. Comparisons are made with previously published experimental and theoretical results. (Author).

Download or read book Measurements of a Supersonic Favorable-pressure-gradient Turbulent Boundary Layer with Heat Transfer written by Robert L. P. Voisinet and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of a detailed experimental investigation of the compressible turbulent boundary layer in a favorable-pressure-gradient flow are presented for zero, moderate and severe heat-transfer conditions. The studies were conducted on a flat nozzle wall at momentum thickness Reynolds numbers from 6,700 to 56,000 and at three wall-to-adiabatic-wall temperature ratios. An attempt was made to hold values of Clauser's pressure-gradient parameter constant. Complete profile measurements were taken with Pitot pressure probes and conical-equilibrium and fine-wire temperature probes. (Modified author abstract).
Book Synopsis Aerothermodynamic Consequences of Nozzle Nonequilibrium by : A. F. Burke
Download or read book Aerothermodynamic Consequences of Nozzle Nonequilibrium written by A. F. Burke and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of nozzle nonequilibrium in a high temperature, hypersonic test facility were evaluated. By using the results of a set of exact computer solutions for air nozzle expansions to interpolate frozen atomic mole fraction and the fraction of total enthalpy frozen in dissociation and vibration, a method was devised for direct determination of (1) freestream quantities downstream of the freezing region in a nonequilibrium nozzle expansion, (2) the nozzle boundary layer growth, and (3) the aerodynamic effects of freestream nonequilibrium. The freestream results are shown to compare favorably with exact computer solutions. Illustrative applications to hypersonic inlet testing and downstream expansion following an MHD accelerator are included. (Author).
