Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2005 Article IV Consultation for Pakistan reports that macroeconomic performance continues to be strong, but inflation and external pressures are evident. High growth, including in agriculture, is estimated to have raised disposable incomes. The authorities’ ambitious growth objectives require substantial increases in investment, including from the private sector. Public investment has been increased to ease bottlenecks in transportation, irrigation, and energy. In the short term, macroeconomic policies need to be tightened somewhat to counter inflation and external pressures.

Download or read book The Ethics of Mobilities written by Tore Sager and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this book the international academic discourse on mobility is taken a step further, through the intertwined perspectives of different social sciences, engineering and the humanities. The Ethics of Mobilities departs from the recent interest in social surveillance, raised by the use of technology for the surveillance and control of mobility as well as for transport. It widens this theme to encompass a broad scale of issues, ranging from freedom and escape to social exclusion and control, thus raising important questions of ethics, identity and religion; questions that are dealt with by a diverse, yet structured range of chapters, arranged around the themes of ethics and religion, and freedom and control. Through their variety and diversity of perspectives, the chapters of this book offer a substantial interdisciplinary contribution to the socially and environmentally relevant discussion about what a technically and economically accelerating mobility does to life and how it might be transformed to sustain a more life-enhancing future. Ethics of Mobilities will excite not only international interest, but will also appeal to scholars across a wide range of disciplines, in fields as diverse as theology and engineering.

This book was released on 2013-04-04 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Britain enjoys a close relationship and has long established ties with Pakistan which has real poverty and serious security problems. But the Committee is concerned that not enough tax is raised in Pakistan to fully finance improvements in the quality of life for poor people. Accordingly, the UK Government is called to: work with other donor countries to encourage joint and concerted efforts to require progress on tax policy and revenue collection within Pakistan; use its influence within the International Monetary Fund to ensure this key institution also presses for urgent reform of Pakistan's tax system; support a nationwide, strategic communication plan within Pakistan to explain the need and benefits of tax policy change and to build domestic political momentum for reform. Furthermore, it is vital for Pakistan, and its relations with external aid donors, that it provides clear evidence that it will own and implement an effective anti-corruption strategy. DFID must likewise set measurable targets against which to measure and confirm positive impacts arising from effective investment in anti-corruption measures. In more detailed comments, the value delivered by the DFID Maternal and New-born Health Programme is acknowledged but scepticism is expressed about recent efforts to 'scale-up' at a provincial level. Closer to home, the Committee also calls on UK DFID to explore innovative ways to work more closely with the UK Pakistani diaspora, to improve their participation in monitoring DFID projects and, where appropriate, to align diaspora funding and remittance flows to Pakistan with DFID supported programmes.

Download or read book Health Literacy written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-07-29 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To maintain their own health and the health of their families and communities, consumers rely heavily on the health information that is available to them. This information is at the core of the partnerships that patients and their families forge with today's complex modern health systems. This information may be provided in a variety of forms â€" ranging from a discussion between a patient and a health care provider to a health promotion advertisement, a consent form, or one of many other forms of health communication common in our society. Yet millions of Americans cannot understand or act upon this information. To address this problem, the field of health literacy brings together research and practice from diverse fields including education, health services, and social and cultural sciences, and the many organizations whose actions can improve or impede health literacy. Health Literacy: Prescription to End Confusion examines the body of knowledge that applies to the field of health literacy, and recommends actions to promote a health literate society. By examining the extent of limited health literacy and the ways to improve it, we can improve the health of individuals and populations.
Book Synopsis Third World Health by : Theodore MacDonald
Download or read book Third World Health written by Theodore MacDonald and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-12-14 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Great and increasing inequities exist between the peoples of the Third World and those of the First. As well, we find ourselves threatened by imminent environmental catastrophes largely as a result of trying to maintain such inequities. This clear and straightforward text explains the complex origins of such bodies as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and others, and demonstrates the extent to which they exacerbate the problem. The situation is now so grave that we can no longer afford the luxury of leaving it to the professionals. We are all involved. We find ourselves hearing daily news reports of wars, starvation, the HIV/AIDS pandemic and natural disasters, rendered worse by inadequate international responses. The United Nations, once seen as an effective arbiter and mediator in such matters, now finds itself unable to exercise authority adequately. Third World Health: hostage to First World Wealth adopts a positive approach and puts forward various ways in which people at all levels can become more involved. It addresses the pivotal issue of health in the Third World and argues that it is very much hostage to the globalization of trade by and for the benefit of First World agencies.
