The death and killing of officers, soldiers, civilians, journalists, reporters and innocent children - in both Ukraine and Russia - is so unnecessary and must be stopped. Hence it is imperative that Vladimir Putin is graciously removed from office - so that Peace and Diplomacy can be restored in the International Community - including Africa. At the UN, Putin is more isolated every day. The UN General Assembly voted to reject his annexation of Ukrainian territory by a margin of 143 to five, with 35 abstentions. That's an even greater margin than previous UN resolutions condemning Russia's actions, also overwhelmingly approved. The daily images of bombed out schools, hospitals, playgrounds and apartment buildings, and the determined, successful pushback by Ukraine, makes it imperative that Russia withdraws all forces from Ukraine. Once Russia withdraws all forces from Ukraine, Diplomacy and International Law can be restored in the world - and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) can be manifested in the International Community. Book excerpt: Dear All, It is imperative that Russia makes Peace with Ukraine, so that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) can be restored in the International Community - as requested by the Secretary-General of the United Nations Mr. António Guterres and Pope Francis. As many as 200,000 people have been killed or injured in the war so far, including nearly 1,000 Ukrainian children. Hence it is imperative that Peace is restored between Ukraine and Russia, to stop the killing of Children. A continuation of Russia's war in Ukraine would increasingly tarnish Russia's reputation in the International Community, and isolate the Russian people economically, socially and culturally - which is unnecessary and can be avoided, if Russia restores peaceful and diplomatic relations with the International Community. This includes the withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukrainian territory. We are expecting the Russian Armed Forces to restore the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in the International Community - by arresting Vladimir Putin, and putting him on trial for crimes against Humanity. This includes restoring Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Press and Freedom of Association in Russia. Once all Russian forces have withdrawn from Ukrainian territory, we intend to implement the replacement of NATO by a new International Peacebuilding Alliance. In our opinion, this should have been done already after the Cold War - during the time when Boris Yeltsin was the first president of the Russian Federation from 1991 to 1999, but which the US neglected to do. So I expect my colleagues in the Government of Russia to make Peace with Ukraine - and uphold the Legacy of Peace of Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin - by working together with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This includes working together with my good friends Joe Biden, Avril Haines and Antony Blinken - who are really solid fellows: ) It should also be noted, that Putin's former speechwriter says a military coup is becoming a possibility in Russia. The best way to equip children and youth for the future is to make their learning the center of all efforts to promote education. The 2018 WDR explores four main themes: First, education’s promise: education is a powerful instrument for eradicating poverty and promoting shared prosperity, but fulfilling its potential requires better policies—both within and outside the education system. Second, the need to shine a light on learning: despite gains in access to education, recent learning assessments reveal that many young people around the world, especially those who are poor or marginalized, are leaving school unequipped with even the foundational skills they need for life. At the same time, internationally comparable learning assessments show that skills in many middle-income countries lag far behind what those countries aspire to. And too often these shortcomings are hidden—so as a first step to tackling this learning crisis, it is essential to shine a light on it by assessing student learning better. Third, how to make schools work for all learners: research on areas such as brain science, pedagogical innovations, and school management has identified interventions that promote learning by ensuring that learners are prepared, teachers are both skilled and motivated, and other inputs support the teacher-learner relationship. Fourth, how to make systems work for learning: achieving learning throughout an education system requires more than just scaling up effective interventions. Countries must also overcome technical and political barriers by deploying salient metrics for mobilizing actors and tracking progress, building coalitions for learning, and taking an adaptive approach to reform.
