Book excerpt: The Head Ladies in Charge is the first ever socially powered book that highlights the accomplishments of women from all walks of life. These Head Ladies in Charge, #HLIC, are making strides in their respective industries, communities, and with their families as they take the world by storm. Many credit their strong faith in God to accomplishing greater greats and higher highs. These women understand what it takes to be successful, not just in their careers but in their businesses and in their personal lives as a whole. "When we came up with the Head Ladies in Charge, we wanted to use our social media platform to spotlight these ladies and help them accomplish their dreams, as well as inspire and empower other women," says Brown, co-founder of Head Ladies in Charge.Created by Che Brown and Trevor Otts, Head Ladies in Charge is the missing link to bringing women together on a global communal scale. Each woman that was selected to be in the Head Ladies in Charge book gave their personal accounts of how they overcame adversity and prevailed to accomplish what they always envisioned for themselves and those around them. "This movement is significant on so many levels because it allows women to reach out to one another while accomplishing their own dreams and leaving the legacies they always envisioned. This book is not just a book of collective stories of success; it's a book about triumphant success that each lady has encountered during her journey of becoming a Head Lady in Charge," adds Otts, co-founder of Head Ladies in Charge.
Download or read book Girl Head written by Genevieve Yue and published by Fordham University Press. This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Girl Head shows how gender has had a surprising and persistent role in film production processes, well before the image ever appears onscreen. For decades, feminist film criticism has focused on issues of representation: images of women in film. But what are the feminist implications of the material object underlying that image, the filmstrip itself? What does feminist analysis have to offer in understanding the film image before it enters the realm of representation? Girl Head explores how gender and sexual difference have been deeply embedded within film materiality. In rich archival and technical detail, Yue examines three sites of technical film production: the film laboratory, editing practices, and the film archive. Within each site, she locates a common motif, the vanishing female body, which is transformed into material to be used in the making of a film. The book develops a theory of gender and film materiality through readings of narrative film, early cinema, experimental film, and moving image art. This original work of feminist media history shows how gender has had a persistent role in film production processes, well before the image ever appears onscreen.

This book was released on 2012-11-02 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the New York Post's Top 10 Career Books of 2012 and a Booklist Top 10 Business Book DO YOU WORK WITH A MEAN GIRL? A woman’s field guide to the new frontier of professional development—working with other women Women-to-women relationships in the workplace are . . . complicated. When they’re good, they’re great. But when they’re bad, they can ruin your day, your week—even your year. Packed with proven advice from two of today’s leading experts in workplace relationships, this one-of-a-kind guide gives women the tools they need to navigate difficult situations unique to women-to-women relationships—whether with a boss, a colleague, a client, or an employee. Have you dealt with a woman in the workplace who: “Accidentally” excludes you from important meetings? Seems intent on taking you down professionally? Gossips about you with other coworkers? Makes you look bad by missing deadlines? Forms a “pack” of mean girls to make your life miserable? Mean Girls at Work isn’t just about surviving difficult situations. It’s about transforming a toxic relationship into one that benefits and supports both of you. This book is also for women who engage in mean behavior . . . but don’t know it. After all, who hasn’t gossiped about a female coworker? Who hasn’t rolled her eyes in the presence of a woman she doesn’t like? Who hasn’t scanned another woman head to toe—which is just a nonverbal way of saying, “You’ve just been judged”? The authors provide invaluable advice to the more subtle ways of being mean—even if they’re not intended. With a workforce composed of a higher percentage of women than ever, workplace dynamics have changed. Crowley and Elster cover every conceivable scenario, providing critical advice on how to rise above the fray and move forward professionally. Mean Girls at Work is your map to dodging the mines and moving forward in today’s transformed workplace. Praise for Mean Girls at Work “An invaluable suit of armor for surviving nine to five!” —Leil Lowndes, bestselling author of How to Talk to Anyone “If you think the emotional cruelty of comedies like Mean Girls and Heathers doesn’t exist in the real world workplace, think again. In Mean Girls at Work, Katherine Crowley and Kathi Elster valuably chronicle female vs. female predators and offer solid defensive strategies.” —Ann Kreamer, author of It’s Always Personal: Navigating Emotion in the New Workplace “Whether you are in your twenties and just starting your professional career, your midcareer forties, when you are supposed to have figured it out already, or a woman in her fifties or sixties who’s seen it all—this book is a must-read. . . . The authors have finally given women the tools and the sound advice necessary to deal with . . . conflicts that keep us all from succeeding. . . . Carry this book with you to work every day!” —Carolyn Cassin, President, Michigan Women’s Foundation “A must-read for women of all ages in today’s workforce. This book offers what we all need to develop the capacities to endure this ever-changing workplace. Download or read book Friedl written by William F. Kuhlke, 3rd and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hundreds of books have been published about the atrocities that occurred in World War II. Now it is time to complete the story by telling the other side – the story of a non-Jewish girl and what she endured. The fact that Adolf Hitler attempted to annihilate the Jewish race has been rightfully taught to subsequent generations to insure that something as heinous as The Holocaust is never repeated. Unfortunately, many people have mistakenly assumed that the entire German population was in line with the Nazi dogma and shared Hitler’s irrational hatred and diabolical solutions. Friedl tells another side of the story. Her true story shows many beliefs to be quite wrong. Friedl’s story is divided into two parts, which helps the reader absorb the duality of her wartime experiences. Book One relates to her childhood years and her loving family, her musical development, her orders to leave her music and work in support of the war effort, her conscription into the Nazi Army and her many horrible wartime experiences far, far from home. In Book Two, Friedl begins her post-war journey home. We travel with her as far as the train tracks allow and then she begins to walk and hitchhike. As she reaches the American Army controlled border, she, as all returning Germans did, is detained until all formal paperwork is completed and entrance into Germany is authorized. This begins a six-week-plus adventure, not knowing if her family has survived, during which she is “adopted” by a German farm couple who had recently lost a daughter and a growing friendship with a German-speaking American Sergeant Jackson. Finally her entrance into her homeland is authorized. Through her eyes we travel on the final leg of her journey to Frankfurt while viewing the horror, destruction, and shambles of the former “most perfectly preserved medieval city,” her beloved Frankfurt.

Book Synopsis Life at the Bottom of Babylonian Society by : Jonathan S. Tanny
Download or read book Life at the Bottom of Babylonian Society written by Jonathan S. Tanny and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2011-07-12 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life at the Bottom of Babylonian Society is a study of the population dynamics, family structure, and legal status of publicly-controlled servile workers in Kassite Babylonia. It compares some of the demographic aspects proper to this group with other intensively studied past populations, such as Roman Egypt, Medieval Tuscany, and American slave plantations. It suggests that families, especially those headed by single mothers, acted as a counter measure against population reduction (flight and death) and as a means for the state to control this labor force. The work marks a step forward in the use of quantitative measures in conjunction with cuneiform sources to achieve a better understanding of the social and economic forces that affected ancient Near Eastern populations.
