Book excerpt: This work is based on the fact that the Bible is the Word of God, without error or contradiction, and acceptance of the fact that the historical progression of the seven letters to the Churches, and the seven parables on the Kingdom of Heaven are related to the seven periods of the Church Age. Each Age reflects the historical social, political, moral, and religious conditions of that period. Topics discussed in this work includes: the Tribulation Period, the abomination that causes desolation, the number 666 as a human social system, the Battle of Armageddon, the two Witnesses, and the "place" prepared for the two women in Revelation chapter twelve. The Battle of Armageddon enabled the Jewish people to return to Palestine and bring an end to the desolation period. A turning point in the study came when it was discovered that the end of the desolation period; the end of Daniel's 1,290 years; and the end of the protection of the two "women" in the "place" God prepared for them, all occurred in the year AD 1970. The year 1970 marks the beginning of "The Time of the End." It is interesting to note that the revealing of "the man of sin" resulted in social upheavals of the past thirty years; the rise in terrorism; global warming; and the melting of ice caps around the world. Scientists and others have documented events related to "The Time of the End" which will culminate with a great catastrophe when the seventh trumpet is blown on the "great and terrible Day of the wrath of God." Several passages in the Bible describe the eruption of volcanoes. It's time to wake up because our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. In order to understand what global warming it all about we need to consider the biblical account of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19:15-29. Because of gross homosexual behavior, God sent two angels to get Lot and his family out of the city. One thing to consider is that the timing of the destruction of the cities, was under the control of the angels. The cities were destroyed by fire and brimstone (sulfur) coming down from the sky. But Abraham saw smoke coming up from the countryside "as the smoke of a furnace." Evidently Abraham's attention was attracted by a loud noise and an earthquake. The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was caused by the eruption of a volcano which left a large caldera filled with salt and the Dead Sea. In Luke 17:29-30 Jesus warned that when he returns the same thing will take place. This time it will involve not just a city but the whole earth. The timing of this future catastrophic event is controlled just as the timing of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was controlled by the angels. (Matthew 24:36) Lot was warned by the angels to get out of the city. Today in the 21st century we are being warned by global warming and its consequences: melting of polar ice caps, melting of snow caps, rising sea levels, etc. IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP!

Book excerpt: Many thousands of men died during the Great War. They came from every place and class. The very cream of the Nation joined up thinking it a great adventure but, all too often, never returned. This book is dedicated to the memory of an elite few of such men – the Rugby Internationals who fell in The Great War. Among the hundreds of thousands who served and died for their country were one hundred and thirty Rugby Internationals.??To place the loss of these men in perspective, it is important to appreciate that Rugby Union was, arguably, bigger in its day than soccer is today. It attracted men from every walk of life. Many became national icons just as David Beckham and Wayne Rooney are now. These were men whose names were common currency in almost every household in Britain; men who were widely admired and emulated.??Yet their physical strength, fitness, prowess and courage made these heroes no less vulnerable to enemy bullets, shells and mines than their less celebrated comrades-in-arms. One hundred years on, the Author decided that any player who perished, whether he had won a single cap for his country or a hundred, would be included within this book.??Into Touch encapsulated the magnitude of a generation's sacrifice. Thanks to the Author's research into these players' service for their country, both on the playing field and battlefield, it will fascinate all with an interest in The Great War and, most particularly, those with a love for The Glorious Game and its history.??As featured in the Cardiff Times and Derby Telegraph.

Book excerpt: With humor and pathos, Forrest Pritchard recounts his ambitious and often hilarious endeavors to save his family’s seventh-generation farm in the Shenandoah Valley. Through many a trial and error, he not only saves Smith Meadows from insolvency but turns it into a leading light in the sustainable, grass-fed, organic farm-to-market community. There is nothing young Farmer Pritchard won’t try. Whether he’s selling firewood and straw, raising free-range chickens and hogs, or acquiring a flock of Barbados Blackbelly sheep, his learning curve is steep and always entertaining. Pritchard’s world crackles with colorful local characters—farm hands, butchers, market managers, customers, fellow vendors, pet goats, policemen—bringing the story to warm, communal life. His most important ally, however, is his renegade father, who initially questions his son's career choice and eschews organic foods for the generic kinds that wreak havoc on his health. Soon after his father’s death, the farm becomes a recognized success and Pritchard must make a vital decision: to continue serving the local community or answer the exploding demand for his wares with lucrative Internet sales and shipping deals. More than a charming story of honest food cultivation and farmers’ markets, Gaining Ground tugs on the heartstrings, reconnecting us to the land and the many lives that feed us.

Book excerpt: Sapper Derek Clarke tells the true and gripping tale of his journey to the front line and fight against the Japanese Imperial Army and life as a Prisoner of War in Changi, Taiwan and Tokyo prison camps 1941-1945.In moving description and fine original sketches he reveals the daily work and characters that make up his world during this period which included three and a half years' imprisonment. Often humorous but never bitter in spite of the beatings and deprivations, Derek brings home to the ordinary reader a sense of the amazing will to survive that emerged under appalling conditions and of the spirit that kept the men going under forced labour conditions. Artist Derek, along with his musical friend Harry Berry, contributed much material for prison camp shows that helped keep up the spirits of the 600 plus prisoners from many countries held at Omori prison camp in Tokyo 1943-1945. This is the "sister" book to "My Darling Wife: The true wartime letters and diaries of Harry Berry to Gwen 1940-1945" which covers the same period.

Book excerpt: This fascinating book examines the deadly impact of The Great War on a number of leading professional sportsmen of the age. Their untimely deaths pressed home how even the fittest and most gifted were vulnerable and their loss was felt by far more than their families and friends. Among those featured in this well illustrated book are: Donald Bell - the only professional football player to win the Victoria Cross: Anthony Wilder - the glamorous Wimbledon champion who fell in May 1915; Francois Faber - the Tour de France star: Percy Poulton Palmer - England Rugby Captain; and numerous others. Also covered are those sports-orientated units such as 16 Battalion Royal Scots (formed around Heart of Midlothian FC) and 11 King’s Royal Rifle Corps (professional golfers). We learn of their formation, training and war service. Finally the authors study the effect of the conflict on the world of sport - canceling of fixture, use of facilities etc.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of how I became Anne of Greenville. It's also the story of how I found my true true, and how I needed to maybe come to Greenville, of all places, to make that happen. In this modern reimagining of Anne of Green Gables, Anne is an ABBA-loving singer/actor/writer of disco-operas, queer, Japanese-American who longs to be understood for her artistic genius. Recently relocated to middle-of-nowhere Greenville and starting at a new school, Anne has a tendency to A) fall in love quickly, deeply, and effervescently and B) fly off the handle in the face of jerks. Both personality quirks quickly come into play when the soccer team boos the premiere of her disco performance, which—in a roundabout way—introduces her to her new BFF, Berry, and she soon after meets the girl of her dreams, Gilly. Falling quickly into that age-old trap of ignoring the best friend for the new crush, Anne soon becomes embroiled in a series of dramatic and unfortunate events, and quickly finds herself wrapped up in a love triangle she never expected. Is she MTB with Gilly? Or is Berry her true soul mate? Only time (or 304 pages) will tell. In this coming-of-age novel by fan-favorite author Mariko Tamaki, see the classic tale in a whole new light. Refreshingly bold and unapologetically unique, Anne of Greenville will make you want to stand up and sing!

Book excerpt: Call the Roll: Laity in the African Methodist Episcopal Church is designed to inform and inspire the reader. From the early days of the Methodist Church in America to the present-day African Methodist Episcopal Church, lay persons have been vital to church health and societal betterment. Following a brief overview of the history of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, highlights of African American lay presence in the early Methodist societies are presented. Four pioneering lay leaders are profiled prior to the introduction of lay persons who made specific contributions to the growth of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. As well, the reader is introduced to a group of AMEC lay persons (including Henry O. Tanner, W.C. Handy, Rosa M. Parks, and Herman Russell) who made invaluable contributions to society. Over 65 references are cited in this extensively researched monograph. The reader is challenged to recall with appreciation and respect the contributions of lay persons to the health and growth of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. In addition to lay persons who were first to hold leadership roles in the church, the roll call also pays homage to selected laity who made outstanding contributions to improve society. Call the Roll honors laity in the African Methodist Episcopal Church issues a clarion call for all AMEs to proudly embrace their roots.

This book was released on 2004 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a detailed account, told mainly in the form of the true letters and dairy notes of one young man s experience of World War II from the day he was called up to the day he returned home almost five years later. There are no heroics, no sex, and any drama is hidden between the lines. The letters to his wife, Gwen, are matter-of-fact, at times almost naive, but often with a touch of humour. They were written in uncomfortable and sometimes primitive conditions from barrack rooms in England, India and Malaya, from the crowded decks of troopships and as censored postcards and letters from Japanese POW Camps in Singapore, Taiwan and Japan. They appear exactly as written. Nothing added, nothing taken away. Parts of the Diary and other notes written during the first 19 months of captivity were confiscated by the Imperial Japanese Army in Tokyo. The remainder were hidden and brought safely home. Harry Berry's wife Gwen, never gave up hope even though it was 18 months from the fall of Singapore before she received news of her husband. She kept all his letters, without which this small insignificant slice of 20th century history would never have been preserved for posterity! "
