This book was released on 1987 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is concerned with certain estimates on the asymptotic behaviour of the functions [italic]u defined on an interval (a, [infinity symbol]) with values in a Hilbert space [italic]H. More precisely, if [italic]L is a second order ordinary differential operator the coefficients of which are operators acting in [italic]H, we wish to obtain inequalities allowing one to get information about the behaviour of a function [italic]u in a neighborhood of infinity from the asymptotic behaviour of the function [italic]L[italic]u. These inequalities will be called Hardy type inequalities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book provides an extensive treatment of Hardy inequalities and closely related topics from the point of view of Folland and Stein's homogeneous (Lie) groups. The place where Hardy inequalities and homogeneous groups meet is a beautiful area of mathematics with links to many other subjects. While describing the general theory of Hardy, Rellich, Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg, Sobolev, and other inequalities in the setting of general homogeneous groups, the authors pay particular attention to the special class of stratified groups. In this environment, the theory of Hardy inequalities becomes intricately intertwined with the properties of sub-Laplacians and subelliptic partial differential equations. These topics constitute the core of this book and they are complemented by additional, closely related topics such as uncertainty principles, function spaces on homogeneous groups, the potential theory for stratified groups, and the potential theory for general Hörmander's sums of squares and their fundamental solutions. This monograph is the winner of the 2018 Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Prize, a prestigious award for books of expository nature presenting the latest developments in an active area of research in mathematics. As can be attested as the winner of such an award, it is a vital contribution to literature of analysis not only because it presents a detailed account of the recent developments in the field, but also because the book is accessible to anyone with a basic level of understanding of analysis. Undergraduate and graduate students as well as researchers from any field of mathematical and physical sciences related to analysis involving functional inequalities or analysis of homogeneous groups will find the text beneficial to deepen their understanding.

Book excerpt: This looks at a new branch of operator theory and partial differential equations, which in recent years, has become a rapidly growing field of mathematics. Well-posed problems are studied in the context of the theory of operator groups and semigroups as well as the framework of time dependent evolution equations. Non well-posed problems are also considered.

Book excerpt: The intention of the international conference PDE2000 was to bring together specialists from different areas of modern analysis, mathematical physics and geometry, to discuss not only the recent progress in their own fields but also the interaction between these fields. The special topics of the conference were spectral and scattering theory, semiclassical and asymptotic analysis, pseudodifferential operators and their relation to geometry, as well as partial differential operators and their connection to stochastic analysis and to the theory of semigroups. The scientific advisory board of the conference in Clausthal consisted of M. Ben-Artzi (Jerusalem), Chen Hua (Peking), M. Demuth (Clausthal), T. Ichinose (Kanazawa), L. Rodino (Turin), B.-W. Schulze (Potsdam) and J. Sjöstrand (Paris). The book is aimed at researchers in mathematics and mathematical physics with interests in partial differential equations and all its related fields.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents results on the geometric/topological structure of the solution set S of an initial-value problem x(t) = f(t, x(t)), x(0) =xo, when f is a continuous function with values in an infinite-dimensional space. A comprehensive survey of existence results and the properties of S, e.g. when S is a connected set, a retract, an acyclic set, is presented. The authors also survey results onthe properties of S for initial-value problems involving differential inclusions, and for boundary-value problems. This book will be of particular interest to researchers in ordinary and partial differential equations and some workers in control theory.

Book excerpt: Since 1976 the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy (formerly the Department of Mathematics of INCREST) and the Faculty of Mathematics (formerly the Faculty of Sciences) of the University ofTimi~oara have organized several Con ferences on Operator Theory. These Conferences were held yearly in Timi~oara (or in Timi~oara and Herculane) and beginning with 1985 they were held in Bucharest (1985,1986), in Timi~oara (1988) and in Predeal (1990). At the beginning, these Conferences answered the need of a part of the Romanian Mathematical Community ofexploring other forms of survival, after the dissolution of the Institute of Mathematics in 1975. Soon, these meetings evolved to International Conferences with a broad participation and where important results in Operator Theory and Operator Algebras and their interplay with Complex Function Theory, Differential Equations, Mathematical Physics, System Theory, etc. were presented. The 14th Conference on Operator Theory was held between June 1st and June 5th 1992, at the University ofTimi~oara. It was partially supported by the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy and by the Faculty of Mathematics of the University ofTimi~oara. Another important contribution towards covering the costs of this meeting came from The Soros Foundation for an Open Society. Without this generous help the organizing of this event would be impossible. Since 1980, the Proceedings of OT Conferences were published by Birkhauser Verlag in the series Operator Theory: Advances and Applications. The abstracts of the talks were collected in the Conference Report, published by the University of Timi~oara.

This book surveys the present state of the theory of weighted integral inequalities of Hardy type, including modifications concerning Hardy-Steklov operators, and some basic results about Hardy type inequalities and their limit (Carleman-Knopp type) inequalities. It also describes some rather new fields such as higher order and fractional order Hardy type inequalities and integral inequalities on the cone of monotone functions together with some applications and open problems. The book can serve as a reference and a source of inspiration for researchers working in these and related areas, but could also be used for advanced graduate courses.
