Die Handlungsfelder wiederum folgen einer Perspektive auf den Lebenslauf als Ganzes und auf unterschiedliche Lebensbereiche vor dem Hintergrund ihrer pädagogischen Relevanz. Der Anspruch des Bandes, so etwas wie eine Quintessenz behindertenpädagogische Theoriebildung zu praktischen Zwecken zusammenzufassen, war nur über vielfältige und multidisziplinäre Zugangswege zu erreichen. Die Mitarbeit von 80 Autorinnen und Autoren sichert Heterogenität der wissenschaftlichen Denkweisen; widersprechende Gesichtspunkte in den Artikeln sind eine Bereicherung des Diskurses.

In this volume, existing analyses on the educational needs of people with impairments and existing educational offers are evaluated and more than 500 people with impairments are interviewed. On the basis of this study, needs-oriented digital educational offers are created in a targeted manner.

Book excerpt: This book aims to investigate the life and work of Paul Koschaker (1879-1951), who was one of the most prominent legal historians during the first half of the 20th century. From the 1930s onwards, Koschaker is renowned for having attempted reaffirm the authority of Roman law, which was experiencing a major crisis at German universities at the time, mainly due to the Nazi regime's disdain for this subject. Above all, he intend to emphasise the role Roman law played as a cornerstone of European legal tradition, as was masterfully depicted in his book 'Europa und das romische Recht'. Moreover, Koschaker had many other areas of interest throughout his career, such as cuneiform laws and comparative legal history issues. This work in particular attempts to provide the first comprehensive study of Koschaker's biographical experiences, as well as his scientific and academic stances, which have come to light as a result of the discovery and analysis of numerous previously unpublished archival sources.

Book excerpt: Based on the results of many years of experimental and theoretical research, it is impossible not to conclude that the problems of developmental instruction and upbringing are among the most significant problems of contemporary psychology, especially in the fields of developmental and pedagogical psychology. The overall orientation of pedagogical thought and practice will in large part depend on their successful elaboration. The essence of these problems can be expressed concisely as follows: Do a person's instruction and upbringing determine the processes of his psychical development, and if they do determine them then is it possible to understand the nature of the link between psychical development and instruction and upbringing? In other words, can we assert that developmental instruction and upbringing exist, and, if they exist, then what laws do they obey? In everyday life, these problems sometimes take the form of the question: Can we, by means of instruction and upbringing, develop in a person certain psychical capacities or qualities that previously did not exist? In the history of psychology, several theories have been created with respect to these problems, each of the theories being based on data from a given pedagogical practice, on materials derived from experience. These theories may provisionally be divided into two groups. The adherents of the first group of theories deny that instruction and upbringing can have any significant effect on a person's psychical development, i.e. they deny the very existence of developmental instruction and upbringing. Adherents of the second group of theories acknowledge the determining role of instruction and upbringing in a person's psychical development and try to study the laws of developmental instruction and upbringing. Each of these two basic groups of theories has many different variants. The author notes that the accepted techniques of instruction and upbringing in different educational institutions are in some way connected with these theories. Therefore, the pedagogical practitioners who are guided by such techniques realise, consciously or unconsciously, fully or partially, the principles of one or the other of these groups of theories.

In 1939-40, the famed Austrian economist Joseph A. Schumpeter and the famous sociologist Talcott Parsons convened a faculty seminar at Harvard University on the topic of rationality. The first part includes their essays as well as papers by the Austrian phenomenologist Alfred Schütz, the sociologist Wilbert Moore, and the economist Rainer Schickele. Several younger economists and sociologists with bright futures also participated, including Alex Gerschenkron, John Dunlop, Paul M. Sweezy, and Wassily W. Leontief, who was later awarded the Nobel Prize for developing input-output analysis.
