Book Synopsis A Latin-Greek Index of the Vulgate New Testament by : Theodore A. Bergren
Download or read book A Latin-Greek Index of the Vulgate New Testament written by Theodore A. Bergren and published by SBL Press. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Scholars who work with Latin materials that have been or might have been translated from Greek originals are often frustrated by the lack of reference tools that can aid in determining accurately translational equivalences between the two languages. Greek-Latin or Latin-Greek lexica are inadequate, for they tend to give ‘ideal’ translational equivalences rather than ones actually attested in some text. The problem is acute, for example, in the study of the Vulgate New Testament, for which no reference tool has existed by which one could determine quickly the entire range of Greek translational equivalents for a given Latin word. The present work is intended to go some distance toward fulfilling this need.” — from the introduction
Book Synopsis Concordance to the Precanonical and Canonical New Testament by : Markus Vinzent
Download or read book Concordance to the Precanonical and Canonical New Testament written by Markus Vinzent and published by Narr Francke Attempto Verlag. This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the beginnings of Early Christianity we know of only two collections of Christian texts to which the title "New Testament" was given - one from around the middle of the second century, credited to Marcion of Sinope, and the other well known created from around the time of Irenaeus of Lyon towards the end of the same century. For the first time, the new Concordance provides the full Greek list of over 5.500 words and their individual appearances in both these collections in a comparative way. This allows for the discovery of parallels and differences between the collections and their relation. In addition questions of priority, historical, social and theological can be answered, based on their lexicography.

Book Synopsis Messianic 'I' and Rastafari in New Testament Dialogue by : Delano Vincent Palmer

This book was released on 2010-04-13 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anyone familiar with the Rastafari movement and its connection with the Bible is struck by the prevalence of messianic I-locution found in both. As the phenomenon is important in the canonical Testaments, more so within the New Testament, this study seeks to investigate its significance in certain epistolary pieces (Romans 7:14-25 ; 15:14-33), the bio-Narratives and the Apocalypse in their historical and cultural milieu. The next stage of the investigation then compares the findings of the aforementioned New Testament books with corresponding statements of the Rasta community, in order to determine their relevance for the ongoing Anglophone theological enterprise. In sum, this study seeks to bring into critical dialogue the permutative messianic 'I' of the New Testament with the self-understanding of Rastafari.

Book Synopsis A Philosopher Looks at Jesus by : Edward J. Machle
Download or read book A Philosopher Looks at Jesus written by Edward J. Machle and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2008-03-01 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the response to a lifetime of questions raised by fellow philosophers, by students, and by the author's own wrestlings. Since the author claims that Jesus's importance goes beyond his being just a moral teacher, Edward Machle discusses the difference between the foundations of philosophy and of theology, and how the disciplines of philosophy and theology use language differently. Then Machle goes on to present his somewhat unorthodox evaluations of the four gospels and their relevance--rejecting, for instance, claims of a "Q" document, and dating Matthew later than Luke. Since any account of Jesus must assume that before Jesus appears in the records, he had a distinctive development, two admittedly fictional narratives follow, preparing for distinctive emphases in the author's later discussions of frequently met problems about Jesus's birth, miracles, aims, and death. Machle lays unusual emphasis on the centrality of the title "Son of Man" for Jesus. Extensive discussions of the resurrection narratives and questions about them follow, leading to a unique treatment of John's Prologue. The last three chapters deal with Jesus's relation to modern belief and life.
Book Synopsis The Soul in the Axiosphere from an Intercultural Perspective, Volume One by : Joanna Jurewicz

This book was released on 2020-05-04 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays collected in this volume form a multifaceted discourse on religious, philosophical, historical, ethnocultural and sociocultural, literary and linguistic issues. A multicultural approach to the problem of the soul allows the presentation of it on a microscale, focused on national and regional specificity, as well as on the macroscale, oriented toward universal values which can be observed in the cultures of peoples distant from each other in both time and space. The book consists of 28 chapters, addressing the fundamental themes of human existence, which find expression in cultural texts in both colloquial and artistic language, and which have a prominent place in anthropological, psychological, metaphysical and theological debates.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of frequently cited articles and chapters published from 1962 to 2004 provides perspective on the history and development of New Testament textual criticism, with descriptions and critique of the major text-critical theories and methods. Specific manuscripts and text-types, such as the Codex Bezae and the D-text are discussed, as well as issues such as anti-Judaic tendencies, the ascension narratives, and the relationship of text and canon. Many of the essays from the last fifteen years emphasize the earliest period and papyrus manuscripts, particularly those found at Oxyrhynchus, and assess their socio-cultural and intellectual contexts, while articles from the last five years advocate or engage the more controversial aspects of current New Testament textual criticism, especially the issue of 'original text'.
