Book Synopsis Litigating in Federal Court by : Ann E. Woodley
Download or read book Litigating in Federal Court written by Ann E. Woodley and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to provide guidance to the law student or litigator as to the applicable rules--and the inter-relationship among those rules--for all of the stages of a federal civil lawsuit. The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure are not sufficiently organized or cross-referenced to allow law students or litigators to easily understand the relationships among the rules, or to make sure that all relevant rules have been consulted. Litigating in Federal Court seeks to remedy this deficiency. Litigating in Federal Court is divided into two parts. The first part of the book covers all of the stages of federal court litigation, including a short narrative discussion of each stage and one or more charts showing the applicable rules and their relationship to each other. These charts have been drafted and re-drafted over a period of years in order to best represent the knowledge of litigation that Professor Woodley has acquired in the process of learning, teaching, and using the litigation process. The second part of the book contains multiple checklists for drafting most of the documents used in the pretrial process (which include citations of the basic relevant rules). This extremely practical yet analytically complex guide to federal court litigation will prove to be a valuable resource for law students and litigators alike.

Book excerpt: Federal judges and the journalists who cover them share an important goal: They want the public to receive accurate and understandable information about the federal courts and their work. The media perform an important and constitutionally protected role by informing and educating the public. The media also serve a time-honored role as the public's watchdog over government institutions, including the courts. Likewise, courts uphold many of the legal protections that enable journalists to perform their jobs. A Journalist's Guide to the Federal Courts is intended to assist reporters who cover appellate, district, and bankruptcy courts - the cases, the people, and the process. It also offers basic information for journalists writing about the federal court system as a whole. The guide does not discuss the Supreme Court of the United States.

One clear area of mutual interest is accurate and informed coverage of federal courts. A Journalist's Guide to the Federal Courts is intended to assist reporters assigned to court coverage. It is the media who inform and educate the public about the courts, spark discussion and debate about their work, instill public trust and confidence in the institution and its function, and help protect judicial independence. This primer, loaded with links and resources, is aimed at helping reporters who cover federal appellate, district, and bankruptcy courts - the cases, the people, and the process. (Note: The Guide does not constitute a statement of Judicial Conference policy and is not binding on any federal court. The individual courts of appeals, district courts, and bankruptcy courts may regulate their own media relations, and there also may be some variation in press policies even among different judges on the same court.)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classic Books Library presents this brand new edition of “The Federalist Papers”, a collection of separate essays and articles compiled in 1788 by Alexander Hamilton. Following the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776, the governing doctrines and policies of the States lacked cohesion. “The Federalist”, as it was previously known, was constructed by American statesman Alexander Hamilton, and was intended to catalyse the ratification of the United States Constitution. Hamilton recruited fellow statesmen James Madison Jr., and John Jay to write papers for the compendium, and the three are known as some of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Alexander Hamilton (c. 1755–1804) was an American lawyer, journalist and highly influential government official. He also served as a Senior Officer in the Army between 1799-1800 and founded the Federalist Party, the system that governed the nation’s finances. His contributions to the Constitution and leadership made a significant and lasting impact on the early development of the nation of the United States.
