Book excerpt: This volume summarizes Services considerations for mortuary affairs search and recovery (S&R) operations in CONUS, PACAF, and USAFE and for OCONUS deployments. This volume is one of the AFH 10-247 series of publications that are guides to Services contingency planning. Topics covered include: Search and Rescue (S&R), mishap investigations, safety investigation board (SIB), accident investigation boards, aircraft crashes, case studies, terrain of search area, trajectory impacts. Purpose. This guide provides guidance for home station and deployed Air Force Services Prime RIBS personnel and base augmentees performing mortuary affairs search and recovery (S&R) operations. It identifies and provides home station and Air Expeditionary Force (AEF) contingency planning procedures for conducting search and recovery of deceased United States (US) military personnel, US noncombatants, allied, coalition partner, third country, and adversary personnel. The guide addresses requirements and approaches to S&R that should be considered by Services. It also addresses some of the circumstances where a Services mortuary S&R team may have to either perform expedient S&R or provide a non-Services unit with support for some type of expedient S&R. This publication is not directive in nature. Records required by directive publications will be maintained according to applicable Air Force record management programs and disposition schedules. Primary Sources. This handbook was developed from Air Force Services' publications, Tyndall (Silver Flag) Services Combat Training and Air Force Institute of Technology mortuary affairs search and recovery course materials, contacts with their instructors, and contacts with AFSVA mortuary affairs personnel. Additional sources for this publication were after action report inputs provided by locations supporting overseas deployments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the help of an implementation strategy, guidelines for minimizing development costs, and insight into a proven plan development methodology, Manager's Guide to Contingency Planning for Disasters: Protecting Vital Facilities and Critical Operations helps you to: * Establish a corporate contingency plan policy and strategy that will ensure timely completion of a plan with minimal disruption to operations. * Minimize plan development costs * Understand the importance of conducting briefings to communicate the proper mindset before the plan development process begins. * Save time and money by avoiding the consultant's traditional approach of extensive information-gathering that contributes little to the development of practical solutions Remember that you have good people on your management team who don't need a lot of detailed instruction on how to do things in an emergency situation. Precisely "how" they do anything will depend on the specific nature of the disaster and the extent of the damage. Addressing complex hypothetical disaster combinations does not make good business sense. Just prepare "what if" strategies for a worst case and rely on the judgment of your line managers to cope with less severe incidents.

Book excerpt: "This guide provides planners with an overview of the beddown assets, tasks, and basic procedures required for Air and Space Expeditionary Force (AEF) bare base operations. It introduces the AEF concept of using Force Modules for planning AEF deployments. While each deployment location has its special requirements, there are common, basic approaches for providing services at all locations. You will have to use and adapt the layouts and procedures to meet your location. Other branches of the Armed Forces' Services and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation organizations may approach support for Joint Service beddowns differently, but the basic requirements are similar and will be addressed as they apply to AEF bare base and austere bare base deployments and the use of Force Modules."--Page 5.

Book excerpt: Improve business efficiency, eliminate day-to-day mishaps, and prepare for the worst-with effective disaster contingency planning Working in lower Manhattan on September 11th, 2001, Donna Childs became keenly aware of the need for small businesses to develop disaster contingency plans and grateful that her own business had implemented such plans and would remain financially sound. Now, with the assistance of IT consultant Stefan Dietrich, she draws upon her unique experience to present proven guidelines for small and midsize businesses to effectively prepare for catastrophes in Contingency Planning and Disaster Recovery: A Small Business Guide. Childs and Dietrich take small business owners through every stage of disaster planning, from preparation to response to recovery. Specific issues addressed include: * What to do if the main office location is not accessible * Getting the business up and running again * Contacting third parties * Handling insurance claims * Adequate insurance for property, business interruption losses, and workers' compensation * Rebuilding an IT infrastructure Successful planning not only can limit the damage of an unforeseen disaster but also can minimize daily mishaps-such as the mistaken deletion of files-and increase a business's overall efficiency. Contingency Planning and Disaster Recovery is the only contingency guide that small business owners need to ensure their company's continued success.

First you gotta find it and make sure it's the latest version, not always easy. Then you gotta print it using a network printer you share with 100 other people - and its outta paper - and the toner is low (take out the toner cartridge, shake it, then put it back). If it's just 10 pages, no problem, but if it's a 250-page book, you will need to punch 3 holes in all those pages and put it in a 3-ring binder. Takes at least an hour. An engineer that's paid $75 an hour has to do this himself (who has assistant's anymore?). If you are paid more than $10 an hour and use an ink jet printer, buying this book will save you money. It's much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com This public domain material is published by 4th Watch Books.
