Book excerpt: Spanish Abstract: El presente estudio tiene como objetivo diseñar estrategias que permitan a las pymes ver, desde el pensamiento estratégico, una innovación tecnológica, con la finalidad de cumplir con el objetivo básico financiero de crecer y ser competitivas en el mercado. El proyecto ilustra la forma como las pymes pueden obtener un desarrollo empresarial a partir de una innovación tecnológica planeada desde su filosofía institucional. El mismo impone como desafío para estas empresas el establecimiento de un plan de acción articulado y la construcción de escenarios de desarrollo que involucren y beneficien a todos los actores, generándoles ventajas competitivas. El estudio se realizó encuestando 95 empresas del departamento de La Guajira, teniendo como táctica lo expuesto por Daft (2005), quien considera que la estrategia competitiva debe ser diferente, seleccionar una serie de actividades distinta a las que otros han seleccionado, para ofrecer una mezcla única de valor. Los resultados de la investigación apuntan a que las PYMES del departamento no tienen una estructura tecnológica y no han realizado un proceso que les permita el desarrollo y comercialización con éxito de nuevos o mejorados productos. Tampoco se evidencia que estas empresas piensen las estrategias desde su filosofía institucional poniendo en práctica el pensamiento estratégico.

Book excerpt: Based on twenty case studies of universities worldwide, and on a survey administered to leaders in 101 universities, this open access book shows that, amidst the significant challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, universities found ways to engage with schools to support them in sustaining educational opportunity. In doing so, they generated considerable innovation, which reinforced the integration of the research and outreach functions of the university. The evidence suggests that universities are indeed open systems, in interaction with their environment, able to discover changes that can influence them and to change in response to those changes. They are also able, in the success of their efforts to mitigate the educational impact of the pandemic, to create better futures, as the result of the innovations they can generate. She elaborates and defends a modern practical-reason view of ethics by focusing on virtue or ideal states of character that involve sensitivity to the objective reasons circumstances bring into play. At the heart of her argument is the Aristotelian idea of the formation of character through upbringing; these ancient ideas can be made contemporary if one understands them in a naturalized way. She then explores the implications that arise from the naturalization of the classical view, weaving into her theory ideas of Jacques Derrida and J. L. Austin. The book also discusses two modes of resistance to an existing ethical culture--one committed to the critical employment of shared norms of rationality, the other aspiring to a more radical attitude, grounded in hostility to the universal. The tasks are formulated so that reporting of student performance can guide implementation in the classroom for use in teaching and learning. The psychometric qualities of the online tasks developed are reported, in the context of the robustness of the automated scoring processes.
