Download or read book Nine Marks of a Healthy Church (3rd Edition) written by Mark Dever and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2013-08-31 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its third edition and featuring a new foreword by New York Times best-selling author David Platt, pastor Mark Dever’s classic book is not an instruction manual for church growth. Rather, it is a wise pastor’s recommendation for how to assess the health of a church using nine crucial qualities often neglected by many of today’s congregations. Church leaders and church members alike will resonate with the principles outlined here, breathing new life and health into the church at large. In this newly revised edition, fresh arguments have been added (for example on expositional preaching, about the nature of the gospel, on complementarianism), illustrations have been updated, appendices have been changed, and cover has been improved.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Mission is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exist because worship doesn't. Worship is ultimate.' Piper offers a biblical defence of God's supremacy in all things, providing a sound theological foundation for missions. He examines whether Jesus is the only way to salvation and issues a passionate plea for God-centredness in the missionary enterprise, seeking to define the scope of the task and the means for reaching 'all nations'. Let the Nations Be Glad! is a trusted resource for missionaries, pastors, church leaders, youth workers, seminary students, and all who want to connect their labours to God's global purposes. This third edition has been revised and expanded throughout and includes new material on the 'prosperity gospel'.

Book Synopsis The Joy of the Gospel by : Pope Francis
Download or read book The Joy of the Gospel written by Pope Francis and published by Image. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage
Book Synopsis Preserving and Protecting the Vineyard by : Charles R. Reed Sr. ThD
Download or read book Preserving and Protecting the Vineyard written by Charles R. Reed Sr. ThD and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2024-03-31 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus claimed “the gates of Hell” would not triumph against His church. Even death, the ultimate weapon of Satan, would not succeed in destroying it. The key to the success of any church is qualified godly leadership. In instructing Titus, the apostle Paul wrote that this leadership “must hold firm to the trustworthy word, give instruction to sound doctrine, and rebuke those who would contradict it” (1:9). The apostle then appealed to Titus to “teach what accords with sound doctrine” (2:1). Sound meaning truths, attitudes, and actions that correspond with Biblical truth. These are the leaders the Lord wants in His church. Sound Doctrine is crucial for salvation and spiritual growth. It is a sign that a church is alive and healthy. The apostle wrote to Timothy (I Timothy 4:1), “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teaching of demons.” That time is here and now and has progressed slowly through the centuries. Jesus warned of this (Matthew 24:24) as well as the apostle Paul (Acts 28:28-30), that false teachers will slither into the church causing great harm, confusing congregations, and dividing the church body. The authority of God and His Word is being challenged. Pastors and their staffs must be prepared to preserve and protect their Vineyards.

Book Synopsis Cross-Cultural Missional Partnership by : Joshua Bowman
Download or read book Cross-Cultural Missional Partnership written by Joshua Bowman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-03-28 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cross-cultural partnerships in today’s global environment are both challenging and necessary. Misunderstanding and miscommunication often lead to conflict between culturally diverse groups. Christians must understand and evaluate their own culture, the culture of others, and the text of Scripture itself, while remaining faithful to Scripture and relevant to culture. Unmediated tensions combined with relational isolation lead to a myriad of problems. This study proposes cross-cultural missional partnership as a relationship that mediates these tensions, thereby encouraging mutual, faithful engagement in the mission of God. Cross-cultural tensions may never disappear, but within a healthy partnership, partners can assist one another in understanding and responding faithfully to Scripture. Partners help one another more faithfully interpret and apply Scripture, leading to obedience to God’s will and engagement in God’s mission within unique and diverse contexts.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author of The Prodigal Prophet Timothy Keller shows how God calls on each of us to express meaning and purpose through our work and careers. “A touchstone of the [new evangelical] movement.” —The New York Times Tim Keller, pastor of New York’s Redeemer Presbyterian Church and the New York Times bestselling author of The Reason for God, has taught and counseled students, young professionals, and senior leaders on the subject of work and calling for more than twenty years. Now he pulls his insights into a thoughtful and practical book for readers everywhere. With deep conviction and often surprising advice, Keller shows readers that biblical wisdom is immensely relevant to our questions about work today. In fact, the Christian view of work—that we work to serve others, not ourselves—can provide the foundation of a thriving professional and balanced personal life. Keller shows how excellence, integrity, discipline, creativity, and passion in the workplace can help others and even be considered acts of worship—not just of self-interest.
Book Synopsis Cross over to the Cross by : Rev. Dr. Elie Hasbani
Download or read book Cross over to the Cross written by Rev. Dr. Elie Hasbani and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crossover to the Cross was a labor of love as it represents a great passion of Rev. Dr. Hasbani; reaching the lost. Evangelizing to Shia Muslims in the US and the world was the topic of his Doctorate in Ministry dissertation, which involved countless hours of reading similar books, research, interviews and self-examination. Crossover to the Cross was written to help Christians recognize God’s heart for Muslims and to help overcome the personal, spiritual, political and cultural obstacles that are preventing much of the Western Church from effectively leading Muslims to the cross of Jesus, with a special emphasis on the Shia Muslims who are often feared and misunderstood, and thus, ignored. Crossover to the Cross is comprised of a collection of four smaller books, each covering unique, but related content, which together create a book for Christians to understand the history, culture, background and beliefs of Shia Muslims. Each chapter is followed by a group discussion with questions to provoke thought and action. The content can be easily modified for reaching all Muslims and for general evangelism. Crossover to the Cross is a practical tool that can be used in a small or large group setting to train and mobilize Christians to engage in missions to Muslims. And to do so boldly, in love and without fear, clarifying any misconceptions of the cross of Jesus Christ.
Download or read book Think written by John Piper and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2013-04-23 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book to help Christians to think about thinking. Focusing on the life of the mind helps us to know God better, love him more, and care for the world. Along with an emphasis on emotions and the experience of God, we also need to practise careful thinking about God. Piper contends that 'thinking is indispensable on the path to passion for God'. So how are we to maintain a healthy balance of mind and heart, thinking and feeling? Piper urges us to think for the glory of God. He demonstrates from Scripture that glorifying God with our minds and hearts is not either-or, but both-and. Thinking carefully about God fuels passion and affections for God. Likewise, Christ-exalting emotion leads to disciplined thinking. Readers will be reminded that 'the mind serves to know the truth that fuels the fires of the heart'.
