Book excerpt: "What a pretty flower to keep locked in a big, rocky tower." Nineteen years ago, I was plucked from the heart of a bloody massacre that spared nobody else. Small. Fragile. An enigma. Now ward to a powerful High Master who knows too much and says too little, I lead a simple life, never straying from the confines of an imaginary line I've drawn around the castle grounds. Stay within. Never leave. Out there, the monsters lurk. Inside, I'm safe...though at a cost far greater than the blood I drip into a goblet daily. Toxic, unreciprocated love for a man who's utterly unavailable. My savior. My protector. My almost executioner. I can't help but be enamored with the arcane man who holds the power to pull my roots from the ground. When voracious beasts spill across the land and threaten to fray the fabric of my tailored existence, the petals of reality will peel back to reveal an ugly truth. But in a castle puddled with secrets, none are greater than the one I've kept from myself. No tower is tall enough to protect me from the horror that tore my life to shreds. To Bleed a Crystal Bloom is a dark Rapunzel reimagining full of immersive imagery and breathtaking angst.

Download or read book Bleed for Me written by Michael Robotham and published by Mulholland Books. This book was released on 2012-02-27 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She's standing at the front door. Covered in blood. Is she the victim of a crime? Or the perpetrator? A teenage girl--Sienna, a troubled friend of his daughter--comes to Joe O'Loughlin's door one night. She is terrorized, incoherent-and covered in blood. The police find Sienna's father, a celebrated former cop, murdered in the home he shared with Sienna. Tests confirm that it's his blood on Sienna. She says she remembers nothing. Joe O'Loughlin is a psychologist with troubles of his own. His marriage is coming to an end and his daughter will barely speak to him. He tries to help Sienna, hoping that if he succeeds it will win back his daughter's affection. But Sienna is unreachable, unable to mourn her father's death or to explain it. Investigators take aim at Sienna. O'Loughlin senses something different is happening, something subterranean and terrifying to Sienna. It may be something in her mind. Or it may be something real. Someone real. Someone capable of the most grim and gruesome murder, and willing to kill again if anyone gets too close. His newest thriller is further evidence that Michael Robotham is, as David Baldacci has said, "the real deal--we only hope he will write faster."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let it Bleed takes you where no Rolling Stones book has before. Author and photographer Ethan Russell was one of only sixteen people--including the Rolling Stones--who made up the 1969 tour. He was with them in their hotel rooms, at rehearsals, and on stage. He tells the story of this monumental and historic tour firsthand, including recollections from band members, crew, security, and other sixties icons--like Abbie Hoffman and Little Richard--they met along the way. And he also includes amazing photos of the performers who toured with the Stones that year: the legendary Tina Turner and B. B. King. Through vivid quotes taken from his interviews with the band and crew, and through more than 220 revealing photographs, Russell takes you behind the scenes for an uncensored look inside the Rolling Stones' world at the end of the sixties. It was an idealistic time, with an overarching belief that music could bring us all together. But the events that led to the terrible violence and stabbing death at Altamont would change rock and roll forever.

Book Synopsis An Atlas of the Sand Hills by : Ann Salomon Bleed
Download or read book An Atlas of the Sand Hills written by Ann Salomon Bleed and published by Conservation and Survey Division in D Natural Resources Univ. This book was released on 1990 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas examines nearly every aspect of the natural history of the Nebraska Sand Hills, including Indian occupation, settlement, current range practices & the "cow-country" lifestyle. These 19,300 square miles comprise the largest dune area in the Western Hemisphere. The grass-stabilized dunes, some as high as 400 feet & as long as 20 miles, were formed by blowing sand during a surprisingly recent time, mostly the last 8,000 years. The climate ranges from subhumid in the east to semiarid in the west. The area is an ecological meeting ground, where species from different vegetative & faunal regions coexist, creating distinctive biological communities. The sandy soils & underlying sands & gravels have allowed for the accumulation of a vast quantity of groundwater, much of which "outcrops" at the surface. This accounts for another unique characteristic: the dry, dune-top prairie ecosystem beside a wetland, lake, or constantly flowing stream. "But this atlas is much more than an explanation of the climate & geology of the Sand Hills. Illustrated with wonderful color photos, fold-out maps, graphs & numerous charts, the book explores the entire ecology of the Sand Hills," said Francis Moul in his review for the DES MOINES REGISTER.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ruben and Lillian (Martin) Corgill were my parents. Ruben was born in 1890. Lillian was born in 1898. Their lives spanned a time period from aEURoehorse and buggyaEUR days to the jet age and space exploration. However, the way they lived didn't change very much as the modern world was evolving around them. Throughout their productive years, they stuck to the old ways of surviving by being self-sufficient in a rural, agricultural environment. Their roots had not prepared them for aEURoegetting byaEUR in other ways. Even in the 1950s, they were still manually doing farm work when machines had replaced people and horses all around them. So many times, one day ended with no clear conviction that the next one wouldn't bring problems beyond their capabilities. How they managed to survive from day to day and year to year on the meager fruits of their labors and raise a family in the process is an outstanding example in human integrity and industry. They survived, though, and held their heads high to the end. Theirs is a story worth telling.
