Book Synopsis Augmenting Indiana's Groundwater Level Monitoring Network by : Benjamin J. Sperl
Download or read book Augmenting Indiana's Groundwater Level Monitoring Network written by Benjamin J. Sperl and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Groundwater monitoring networks are subject to change by budgetary actions and stakeholder initiatives that result in wells being abandoned or added. A strategy for network design is presented that addreses the latter situation. It was developed in response to consensus in the state of Indiana that additional monitoring wells are needed to effectively characterize water availability in aquifer systems throughout the state. The strategic methodology has two primary objectives that guide decisions making for new installations: (1) purposive sampling of a diversity of environmental variables having relevance to groundwater recharge, and (2) spatial optimization by means of maximizing geographic distances that separate monitoring wells. Design objectives are integrated in a discrete facility location model known as the p-median problem, and solved to optimality using a mathematical programming package.

Book Synopsis Practical Handbook of Ground-Water Monitoring by : David M. Nielsen
Download or read book Practical Handbook of Ground-Water Monitoring written by David M. Nielsen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-03-13 with total page 746 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practical Handbook of Ground Water Monitoring covers the complete spectrum of state-of-the-science technology applied to investigations of ground water quality. The emphasis of the book is on the practical application of current technology, and minimum theory is discussed. The subject of ground water monitoring is covered in great detail, from the Federal regulations that require monitoring to the various direct and indirect methods of investigating the subsurface - to the analysis and interpretations of complex sets of water quality data. All aspects of ground water quality investigations, including site assessment techniques, health and safety considerations and equipment decontamination, are dealt with in a logical order that will allow the reader to follow along in the same thought progression as a field project. The experiences and expertise of more than 30 practicing scientists and engineers combine to make this book the most comprehensive reference compiled on the topic of ground water monitoring.

Book Synopsis Groundwater Monitoring by : Anne Marie Fouillac
Download or read book Groundwater Monitoring written by Anne Marie Fouillac and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-08-25 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Groundwater is sometimes called “the hidden asset” – awareness of its existence and its importance is not well known and as a consequence the measures which are required to protect and manage it in an environmental sustainable way are either not taken or are taken too late. Where pollution has occurred and measures are taken too late it may take decades, or longer, until the necessary restoration of quality is achieved. This comprehensive text presents in the following sections: Groundwater monitoring in the regulatory and international context Conceptual modelling and network design Groundwater pollutants and other pressures Groundwater quality standards and trend assessment Case studies for groundwater assessment and monitoring in the light of EU legislation Groundwater measurements Associating external stakeholders The editors have collected state-of-the-art information on groundwater quality assessment monitoring from the international community, providing further stimulation to the work of all parties involved in the challenges this area creates to ensure sound quality assessment of groundwater.
