Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Estimates of the volume of ground-water use in Canada were prepared for 1981. Six maps show the spatial distribution and annual volumes of ground water used by municipal and industrial users. The major findings of this report are the following: (1) over 6.2 million, or 26% of Canadians, rely on ground water for their domestic supply; (2) approximately 38% of the municipalities in Canada rely entirely or partially on ground water; (3) approximately 1.46 billion cubic metres, or about 4% of total water use in Canada, is obtained from ground water (this percentage is increased to 8% if water use by the thermal component within the industrial sector is not included in the calculations); (4) approximately 87% of total water use for livestock is obtained from ground water; and (5) ground water is important for fish enhancement programs"--Abstract, p. vii.
Book Synopsis Managing Common Pool Groundwater Resources by : Mary Brentwood
Download or read book Managing Common Pool Groundwater Resources written by Mary Brentwood and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2004-03-30 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Woldwide, developed and developing countries increasingly depend on groundwater resources for domestic water supply. Since groundwater is a hidden resource and individuals cannot see how much has been used and what is left, this book attempts to make global groundwater use more visible so that policy makers can make informed decisions as to its management. Organized into six geographical regions, the authors describe the various physical, cultural and institutional challenges of groundwater policy and management faced by countries worldwide. Analysis of the challenges and responses to groundwater management at the national level hopes to generate a broader understanding for societies across the globe. Each chapter provides the physical geography and demographics of the country, its water use, problems, law, politics and policy and future implications. Chapters on representative countries within North America, Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Australia and China and Africa provide a comprehensive perspective of groundwater issues internationally.

These interdisciplinary studies break new ground in terms of our understanding of the climate experience in the Great Plains before and after agriculture was introduced, the current array of institutions surrounding water governance, and the strengths and weaknesses of rural and Aboriginal communities. Four chapters focus on the present attributes of, as well as future scenarios for, the South Saskatchewan River Basin in southern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan. The final group of chapters present case studies of rural communities, Cabri and Stewart Valley Saskatchewan, and Hanna as well as a First Nation reserve in Alberta, as well as a major conflict over water rights in Alberta. Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 26 (thesis year 1981) a total of 11 ,048 theses titles from 24 Canadian and 21 8 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 26 reports theses submitted in 1981, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
