Book Synopsis Space Grid Structures by : John Chilton
Download or read book Space Grid Structures written by John Chilton and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2007-06-01 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A space frame is a three-dimensional framework for enclosing spaces in which all members are interconnected and act as a single entity. A benefit of this type of structure is that very large spaces can be covered, uninterrupted by support from the ground. John Chilton's book provides an up-to-date assessment of the use of space grid structures in buildings by reviewing methods of construction, various systems available and detailed studies of the use of space grids in modern buildings. The technical level is aimed at professional and student architects and engineers worldwide and it also serves as a useful construction manual. John Chilton is an engineer, currently teaching architectural students at Nottingham University where he is a senior lecturer. He has also undertaken considerable research in this field.

Book Synopsis Space Grid Structures by : John Borrego
Download or read book Space Grid Structures written by John Borrego and published by MIT Press (MA). This book was released on 1968 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The remarkable rigidity and economy of three-dimensional space structures have long been realized, but only during the last decade have they begun to come into widespread architectural use. In an age of standardization and prefabrication, their simplicity of manufacture, ease of transportation, and speed of erection are sufficient recommendation. Even more important, however, the ratio of weight to area covered can be greatly reduced through their use, and they allow the construction of long-span structures with a far smaller number of intermediate supports.
Book Synopsis Analysis, Design and Construction of Steel Space Frames by : G.S. Ramaswamy
Download or read book Analysis, Design and Construction of Steel Space Frames written by G.S. Ramaswamy and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 2002 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space frames provide a lightweight solution to the problem of creating large span enclosures free from obstructions. They are employed in many major construction projects across the world, as documented in this authoritatively written volume. This is the first in-depth book to present all instances and applications of space frames in various engineering schemes. It uses case studies and numerous illustrations to examine steel space frames from their design to their structural engineering performance. Analysis, Design and Construction of Steel Space Frames will be of particular use to practitioners through its use of various leading design codes, including the Eurocodes. Boasting an international authorship with wide experience in the research, development and manufacture of space frames, this book also draws contributions from leading practitioners and academics specialising in this area from across the globe.

Book excerpt: From the ancient times, people used various kinds of natural material to build architecture. Because of the characteristics of natural materials, there are many limits to challenge the possibility of the architectural structure. After the fire of 1871 in Chicago, there were many incentives to convince Chicago architects to use steel as the material in grid structure buildings. For example, rising real estate prices, the advent of the safety elevator and availability of cost effective steel members. After that, grid structures play a very important role in modern architectural history. Now, construction technologies are improving and hundreds of structure types can be used. Architects have more power to build various kinds of amazing space. For instance, TWA terminal of J.F.K. International Airport. However, the grid structure still has several advantages that can not be substituted: (1) It costs less money due to repetition of components across similar bays. (2) It reduces the construction time, and (3) It possesses an inherent order, a good prerequisite for plan and section. In addition, new technology extends the span limits of grid structures. Thus, grid structures have more chances to take on different roles in the definition of space. This project is a study of the relations between structural grid and architectural space, and a search for several distinct spaces withinthe grid. In other words, the concept of the project is setting up a grid structure, then developing spacial ideas according to program. So, we can reserve the spirit of the grid structure, and it offers many chances to us to think about other roles that the grid structure can play.
Book Synopsis State Space Grids by : Tom Hollenstein
Download or read book State Space Grids written by Tom Hollenstein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-28 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human development from birth through adulthood is a complex interplay of many interacting forces. Children’s internal processes are manifest in behaviors that are sculpted by their experiences, most notably with primary caregivers. Because the discipline of psychology explores human behavior and cognition, the techniques employed for developmental analysis must be able to describe, depict, and quantify these complex processes. State Space Grids provides the framework, basic method, rationale, and advanced techniques for translating the behavior of children, adolescents, and parents into visible, traceable data. This seminar-between-covers takes readers step by step from conceptualization through implementation of projects, with examples from a range of current research within and outside child development. Links are included for the GridWare software program and related user resources. And although state space grids need not be used only to analyze dynamic systems, they serve as an excellent tool for honing systemic thinking. Key coverage in this volume includes: Dynamic systems and the origins of state space grids. The state of research using state space grids. Introducing GridWare and how it works. How to use state space grids, from idea through finished project. Within-grid and between-grid analysis. Conducting advanced analysis. State Space Grids is an essential reference for researchers across such disciplines as psychology, neuroscience, economics, computer science, and agricultural science.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A superb visual reference to the principles of architecture Now including interactive CD-ROM! For more than thirty years, the beautifully illustrated Architecture: Form, Space, and Order has been the classic introduction to the basic vocabulary of architectural design. The updated Third Edition features expanded sections on circulation, light, views, and site context, along with new considerations of environmental factors, building codes, and contemporary examples of form, space, and order. This classic visual reference helps both students and practicing architects understand the basic vocabulary of architectural design by examining how form and space are ordered in the built environment.? Using his trademark meticulous drawing, Professor Ching shows the relationship between fundamental elements of architecture through the ages and across cultural boundaries. By looking at these seminal ideas, Architecture: Form, Space, and Order encourages the reader to look critically at the built environment and promotes a more evocative understanding of architecture. In addition to updates to content and many of the illustrations, this new edition includes a companion CD-ROM that brings the book's architectural concepts to life through three-dimensional models and animations created by Professor Ching.

Book excerpt: Although grid systems are the foundation for almost all typographic design, they are often associated with rigid, formulaic solutions. However, the belief that all great design is nonetheless based on grid systems (even if only subverted ones) suggests that few designers truly understand the complexities and potential riches of grid composition.
