Download or read book French Quebec written by British Library and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within Anglophone North America, the story of French Quebec is one of linguistic and cultural survival. This catalogue of books published in Quebec in French charts the evolution of the province's literary, social, artistic and political culture from 1764-1990. It includes all works published in Quebec, wholly or mainly in French, collected by the British Museum and Library from the 1830s to the present. Titles are listed under broadly-based subject sequences: Volume 1 covers French Quebec's creative and artistic output, as well as its conception of itself, as reflected in its philosophical and psychological works and encounters with other cultures. This second volume includes publications relating to Quebec's social and political institutions, history, social order and geophysical features. An introduction, in English and French, surveys the province's published output, and the history of its acquisition by the British Museum and Library.

Book Synopsis La traduction de l'anglais au français by : Michel Ballard
Download or read book La traduction de l'anglais au français written by Michel Ballard and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Contemporary Criminological Issues by : Carolyn Côté-Lussier
Download or read book Contemporary Criminological Issues written by Carolyn Côté-Lussier and published by University of Ottawa Press. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary Criminological Issues tackles some of today’s most pressing social issues, from the criminalization of Indigenous peoples to interpersonal violence, border control, and armed conflicts. This book advances cutting-edge theories and methods, with the aim of moving beyond the scholarship that reproduces insecurity and exclusion. The breadth of approaches encompasses much of the current critical criminological scholarship, serving as a counterpoint to the growth of managerial and administrative criminologies and the rise of explicitly exclusionary and punitive state policies and practices with respect to ‘crime’ and ‘security.’ This edited collection featuring two books, one in English and one in French, includes important contributions to knowledge and public policy by eminent experts and emerging scholars. This book is published in English.
Book Synopsis Elements of Structural Syntax by : Lucien Tesnière
Download or read book Elements of Structural Syntax written by Lucien Tesnière and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2015-02-11 with total page 782 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume appears now finally in English, sixty years after the death of its author, Lucien Tesnière. It has been translated from the French original into German, Spanish, Italian, and Russian, and now at long last into English as well. The volume contains a comprehensive approach to the syntax of natural languages, an approach that is foundational for an entire stream in the modern study of syntax and grammar. This stream is known today as dependency grammar (DG). Drawing examples from dozens of languages, many of which he was proficient in, Tesnière presents insightful analyses of numerous phenomena of syntax. Among the highlights are the concepts of valency and head-initial vs. head-final languages. These concepts are now taken for granted by most modern theories of syntax, even by phrase structure grammars, which represent, in a sense, the opposite sort of approach to syntax from what Tesnière was advocating. Book Synopsis Listening to Spoken English by : Gillian Brown
Download or read book Listening to Spoken English written by Gillian Brown and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-19 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For those who are familiar with the first edition, it will be convenient to have some indication of where the main changes lie. Chapter one has been largely rewritten to give an outline of current approaches to a model of comprehension of spoken language. Chapter two has a new initial section but otherwise remains as it was. Chapter three incorporates a new section on "pause" and how this interacts with rhythm, and rather more on the function of stress. Chapter four has an extended initial section but otherwise remains largely as it was. Chapter five on intonation contains several sections which have been rewritten to varying extents. Chapter six of the first edition has disappeared: in 1977, very little work had been published on "fillers" and it seemed worthwhile incorporating a chapter that sat rather oddly with the phonetic/phonological interests of the rest of the book. Not that there is a great industry of descriptions of the forms and functions of these and similar phenomena there seems no reason to retain this early but admittedly primitive account. The chapter on "paralinguistic vocal features", now chapter six, has some rewriting in the early part but considerable rewriting in the last sections. The final chapter on "teaching listening comprehension" has grown greatly in length. It still incorporates some material from the original chapter but most of it is completely rewritten.
