Book Synopsis Astrological Analysis of Indian Affairs by : Dhruva
Download or read book Astrological Analysis of Indian Affairs written by Dhruva and published by Readworthy. This book was released on 2008 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts to trace the history of post-Independent India astrologically. It presents the key events chronologically along with the important indicators of these events grouped under the Vimshottari Dasa - Antara Dasa segments. Each event has been analysed in the context of prevailing Dasa periods, the transits and, wherever possible, in terms of the Chart cast for the time of the event. The analysis of Indian affairs is made sectorwise - polity, economy, industry, agriculture, science and technology, natural and national disasters - to take a holistic view of the astral influence. Also, it examines the defining role of gochara or transits of major planets such as Saturn, Rahu, Jupiter and Mars in triggering significant events. Finally, an attempt is made to work out the future trends of mundane affairs in India's march ahead, covering the period up to 2050.

While some have sought to debunk its science, it has stood the test of time. It’s not a belief or superstition limited to frivolous horoscopes, and this book explains why. Theresa H. McDevitt, a professional astrological counselor, presents cold hard facts that can be verified through observation and by studying history. She examines: • planetary cycles and their connection to life expectancy; • cosmic energy and how it affects every organism on Earth; and • generational life cycles and the legacies that individuals leave behind. The author also goes beyond history to show the hidden powers behind the functional workings of the world and humanity—the how, when, and why everything happens. By gaining a clear picture of what you’ll encounter from birth to death, you’ll be empowered to contribute more to the world. Go beyond being informed and discover true knowledge with The Cosmic Hourglass of Life.
Book Synopsis The Political Biographies of Cornelius Nepos by : S. Rex Stem
Download or read book The Political Biographies of Cornelius Nepos written by S. Rex Stem and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2012-11-19 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Roman writer Cornelius Nepos was a friend of Cicero and Catullus and other first-century BCE authors, and portions of his encyclopedic work On Famous Men are the earliest surviving biographies written in Latin. In The Political Biographies of Cornelius Nepos, Rex Stem presents Nepos as a valuable witness to the late Republican era, whose biographies share the exemplary republican political perspective of his contemporaries Cicero and Livy. Stem argues that Nepos created the genre of grouped political biographies in order to characterize renowned Mediterranean figures as role models for Roman leaders, and he shows how Nepos invested his biographies with moral and political arguments against tyranny. This book, the first to regard Nepos as a serious thinker in his own right, also functions as a general introduction to Nepos, placing him in his cultural context. Stem examines Nepos' contributions to the growth of biography, and he defends Nepos from his critics at the same time that he lays out the political significance and literary innovation of Nepos' writings. Accessible to advanced undergraduates, this volume is addressed to a general audience of classicists and ancient historians, as well as those broadly interested in biography, historiography, and political thought.

Book Synopsis Political Magic by : Christopher F. Loar
Download or read book Political Magic written by Christopher F. Loar and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2014-06-05 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political Magic examines early modern British fictions of exploration and colonialism, arguing that narratives of intercultural contact reimagine ideas of sovereignty and popular power. These fictions reveal aspects of political thought in this period that official discourse typically shunted aside, particularly the political status of the commoner, whose “liberty” was often proclaimed even as it was undermined both in theory and in practice. Like the Hobbesian sovereign, the colonist appears to the colonized as a giver of rules who remains unruly. At the heart of many texts are moments of savage wonder, provoked by European displays of technological prowess. In particular, the trope of the first gunshot articulates an origin of consent and political legitimacy in colonial showmanship. Yet as manifestations of force held in abeyance, these technologies also signal the ultimate reliance of sovereigns on extreme violence as the lessthan-mystical foundation of their authority. By examining works by Cavendish, Defoe, Behn, Swift, and Haywood in conjunction with contemporary political writing and travelogues, Political Magic locates a subterranean discourse of sovereignty in the century after Hobbes, finding surprising affinities between the government of “savages” and of Britons.
