Book excerpt: A good Thai girl spills the inside story about dating Thai women. You can find love in Thailand with girls who are marriage material, look like billboard fashion models, work in office jobs, speak fluent English, and don't see you as just a meal ticket. But it's not easy or automatic. In Thailand, you can't just approach strangers in public, even at a club or bar. And many of the women who you might think are "good Thai girls" are actually prostitutes in disguise. This book is the complete Thai insider's guide to meet good Thai girls, online or offline, understand typical Thai girls and red flags to watch for, go on a first date, proceed to sex, and pursue a long-term relationship. Learn Thai cultural points, such as spotting ladyboys, negotiating a family's requests for a marriage dowry, and even dressing for a date in Bangkok. It's not hard. You don't have to speak Thai. Even if you've never been to Thailand before, you can manage it. Linda Chomatree was born in Bangkok, studied in the US and the UK, and now travels between the US and Bangkok, working in her family's real estate business. She's seen foreigners in Thailand fall flat on their faces dating prostitutes or embarrassing themselves trying to chat up random women on the street. This book is her project to try to help foreign men find love with Thai women who aren't prostitutes and who don't tarnish Thai women's image. Your good Thai girl is waiting for you here in Bangkok. This book is for finding her.

Book excerpt: Sure a lot of Thai girls are good in English especially hookers. But what if you want to ask a "normal" Thai girl out for a date? There are countless of nice Thai girls that have never dated a foreigner before but would love to if you can at least speak some basic Thai. Or think of all the university girls most of them don't speak English or are too shy but how if you tell them in Thai "You are cute, do you want to go for dinner with me?" Imagine how many more Thai girls you can meet if you know some really useful Thai vocabulary and phrases! Leaving alone to impress girls no matter if they speak English or not. And not just for arranging quick dates - if you are in a relationship with a Thai girl it does make sense to know how to ask her if she's horny or ask her to undress. You will learn all this and much more in this book. The Thai Love Course is divided into two parts: The first part is about teaching you all the language skills you need in order to talk to Thai girls confidently. There are 6 lessons: 1. Courting / Arranging a Date Learn everything from "What's your name?", "Where do you go?", "You are cute" to "Are you free tonight?" and "Do you want to have a meal together?" Step by step from the first thing you tell her to arranging a date. 2. During the Date / Bring her back to your room Once it's time to meet her and take her out for the date you will have a repertoire of more than enough questions and statements to convince her to go back to your or her room like "It's hot here, isn't it?", "Do you live alone?", "Do you want to watch a movie in my room?" and many more. 3. In the Apartment / Making Love The tools for your bedroom: "I love your skin", "Can I hug you?", "Can I kiss you?", "Don't be shy" to "What is your favorite position? ", "Does it hurt?", "That feels good?" are just a few things you will be able to tell your girl. 4. Talking about Feelings If you want to be able to ask your honey why she loves you as well as understanding her answer - this chapter provides all relevant words and phrases you need to know. Also including useful tools for pickup lines ("You are so kind", "I don't want to sleep alone", "Do you want to be my girlfriend?" etc). 5. Breaking up Sooner or later you may want to end the relationship with your Thai girl and rather than ignoring her messages there are several ways to tell her that it's over and also give a reason for it ("You don't care about me at all", "You barely call me", "It's better we break up" etc). 6. Talking to Bar Girls / Hookers There is not one foreigner that I know who comes to Thailand on holiday or lives here permanently and has not been in "contact" with Thai bar girls. So in the final chapter you'll find everything related to talking to bar girls and hookers ("What time do you finish work? ", "I want to take you outside", "How much do you want?", "That's too much" etc). You'll love this one. Each chapter has a list of relevant vocabulary followed by useful sentences for real conversations. Everything comes in English, Thai transliteration and Thai script. The second part is about understanding the way Thai girls are thinking and what they expect from you in a relationship. Plus bonus content including Pick Up Lines that really work and the most important Isaan Words.

Book excerpt: From the author of The Darkest Lie comes a compelling, provocative story for fans of I Was Here and Vanishing Girls, about a high school senior straddling two worlds, unsure how she fits in either—and the journey of self-discovery that leads her to surprising truths. In her small Kansas town, at her predominantly white school, Kanchana doesn’t look like anyone else. But at home, her Thai grandmother chides her for being too westernized. Only through the clothing Kan designs in secret can she find a way to fuse both cultures into something distinctly her own. When her mother agrees to provide a home for a teenage girl named Shelly, Kan sees a chance to prove herself useful. Making Shelly feel comfortable is easy at first—her new friend is eager to please, embraces the family’s Thai traditions, and clearly looks up to Kan. Perhaps too much. Shelly seems to want everything Kanchana has, even the blond, blue-eyed boy she has a crush on. As Kan’s growing discomfort compels her to investigate Shelly’s past, she’s shocked to find how it much intersects with her own—and just how far Shelly will go to belong... Praise for The Darkest Lie “Heartbreaking and heroic. You won’t be able to turn the pages fast enough!” --Romily Bernard, author of the Find Me trilogy “A twisty, fast-paced thriller that kept me guessing to the end.” —Shannon Grogan, author of From Where I Watch You “This one will tug your heart and leave you breathless!” --Natalie D. Richards, author of Six Months Later “A headlong rush into the shadows of secrets that should not be kept.” –Michelle Zink, author of Prophecy of the Sisters

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than three decades, Kathleen Cash has lived and worked with impoverished people, learning about their lives. Listening to them talk about their feelings of shame, Cash heard how people suffered from being unable to change what was happening to them--HIV infection, sexual and domestic violence, violence toward children, and environmental degradation. She saw that many interventions lacked emotional and cultural integrity and thus did little to alleviate these hardships. So Cash went outside the conventional approaches to health promotion and social justice and devised a community narrative practice, a strategy for engaging people through storytelling. From numerous ethnographic interviews, she pieced together cultural stories in a way that resonated with community people and revealed the paradoxes in their suffering. Cash recruited local artists to illustrate the stories in a form resembling a graphic novel and distributed these booklets for community discussion. (This book includes excerpts from these illustrated stories.) In Thailand, Bangladesh, Haiti, Uganda, and the United States, people learned to talk about forbidden subjects and say what they could never say before. They stood up to each other, reconciled, and made health-seeking decisions. By helping others, they repaired themselves. In cathartic conversations they acknowledged shame, which led to acts of courage and generosity.

Book excerpt: Angels of Pattaya offers a unique insight into the world of organised prostitution in Pattaya. In their own words, the bar girls of Pattaya reveal how they became involved in vice, their lives, their hopes for the future and what they think of their "customers". Many are poor and uneducated, others come from relatively well-to-do Thai families. Some engage in prostitution out of desperation for money, others out of greed. Some even view it as an easy lifestyle which allows them to drink and party all night and sleep until the afternoon. A few say they hope to meet a good man who will take them away from prostitution. Their confessions will make you laugh and cry, cringe and applaud. This book will change your perception of the women who work in Pattaya's go-go bars forever.

Book excerpt: Love is alluring, seductive, and elusive. Love yearns, hurts, and heals. We fall into love unprepared, and we discover new dimensions, new flavors of love everyday. JJ fell in love with conventional expectations but discovered a gut-wrenching push-pull in his heart that he never imagined. Bungee Love is a tale about his discoveries, his broken marriage, and his search for reconciliation. He left America to start a new life in Asia and was surprised and astounded by what he learned from new cultures and people as he traveled. He discovered amazing new places with rich Asian histories and religions. He found adventures, traditions, and ancient temples in Cambodia, Th ailand, Viet Nam, and Indonesia, but he was not prepared for the steamy, lurid side of Asia. Bangkok and Pattaya revealed more than sex for sale on a gawdy, blatant scale; they provided glimpses of the hidden lives, motives, and dreams of the girls drawn into the bargirl life. He developed insights into himself and his life as he began to understand the lives of the women he met, but JJ was no more ready for the sexy bargirls who pulled him into Hell than the goodness that rescued him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thai women are special. If you don't believe this, please explain to me why men come to Thailand from all over the world to enjoy Thai women and possibly take them home with them. I suggest it's a combination of how Thai culture is reflected in their character ... and how well put together they are. Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia are all SE Asian countries full of available and attractive women who are looking for someone to help them move toward a better life. But it's Thailand that gets all the action. Thai culture somehow turns out women with a strong appeal to foreign men. This book is intended to help a foreign man better understand something of the worldview of most Thai women. I have known a Thai woman for four years and been married to her for three. She has six sisters. All seven women have different personalities but all seven share some Thai-ness. It would be a mistake to imagine that everything I mention in this book applies to all Thai women. My wife's family and her large group of women friends are all middle to upper class. It's very possible they represent a set of values that is much different than those of a bar girl in Bangkok hawking 500 baht happy endings. I hope reading this book will suggest to you how a middle to upper class Thai woman looks at the world ... and at you. Most importantly, I will try to convey to you what Thai women are looking for, and not looking for, in a man. Thai culture and what it instills in Thai women is not for everyone. I have tried to present some appealing and some not so appealing aspects of Thai women. I have gone into some of these issues in other books I''ve written about Thai culture. I hope if you like this book, you will also try "Nine Reasons Why An Old American Man Should Move To Thailand." Thailand can be an amazing adventure for some men. Thai women are a big part of that adventure. I hope this book will help you in deciding if these adventures are a good fit with your needs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume provides a vehicle for the expression of geographical and historical perspectives on the militarisation of East Asia and the Pacific. Among the questions the authors explore are: How have groups and individuals variously enforced, justified, supported, resisted, and acquiesced in military occupation? How have concepts of nationality, identity, and self-determination been shaped, reshaped, and erased by historical processes? How can communities escape from their perceived or actual dependence on centralised loci of power? Chapters draw upon philosophical, theoretical, empirical, and anecdotal evidence. The book is aimed at, inter alia, activists for social justice and researchers in international and strategic relations, colonial and post-colonial studies, Asian, Okinawan, and Pacific island studies, critical theory, and ethics. Contributors to this volume include David Vine, Douglas Lummis, Miyume Tanji, Kyle Kajihiro, chinin usii, Leevin Camacho, Andrew Yeo, Mitzi Uehara Carter, Gwisook Gwon, Christopher Melley, Yukinori Tokuyama, Kiyomi Maedomari-Tokuyama, Nika Nashiro, Chie Miyagi, Makoto Arakaki, Peter Simpson, and Daniel Broudy.
