Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the biblical period, society in a large part of the world, including that of the Bible, gave priority to males over females. The Bible thus gives instruction about how to live in such a society. But the Hebrew part of the Bible, which Christians call the Old Testament, said that this condition was part of a punishment for disobeying God in the first time period. Later, when the Christian New Testament was produced, Jesus announced that a new, much better world is in the process of beginning. In this new world, there is one inclusive principle of a good life, namely love. His follower, Paul, then stated specifically that in the new reality the sexes are equal. In sexual relations, spouses would need to accommodate each other on an equal basis as an expression of love. That is the one basic rule. He left further details open, although there are useful guides that describe attitudes. The present work will discuss specific guides, but no firm ones for sexual partners beyond mutual accommodation.

This book was released on 2013-07-29 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although sexual issues frequently arise in therapeutic practice, mental health professionals are often uncomfortable and poorly equipped to address them. Written by an author who is both a psychologist and sex therapist, this practical guide provides information, tools, and exercises to increase the confidence and comfort of the mental health professional called upon to treat sexual issues during the course of therapy. The book is based on the premise that the therapist must be comfortable with his or her own sexuality in order to offer appropriate treatment. This guide discusses the characteristics of healthy sexuality-for both client and therapist-and explores the reasons that may underlie a therapist's discomfort with addressing sexual issues. Using case studies and sample dialogues, it covers a multitude of common and unusual sexual problems, couple's issues, questions that parents may have about sex, working with LGBT clients, sex for survivors of trauma, sexuality and aging, sexual pain disorders, and how to assess whether more extensive sexual therapy is needed. The guide demonstrates how therapists in different modalities can incorporate treatment of sexual problems into their practice, and covers relevant ethical issues. Included is a downloadable set of practitioner's resources that includes worksheets and client handouts that can be immediately put to use. Additionally, the book provides resources for more in-depth information and discusses collaboration with other health professionals. Key Features: Discusses how to comfortably and effectively discuss, assess, and treat clients' sexual concerns Supported by case studies and therapist/clinician dialogues Includes "Step Into My Office" sidebars taken from the author's own experience Provides downloadable resources including assessments, worksheets, and client handouts

Book Synopsis Ministry Among God's Queer Folk, Second Edition by : Bernard Schlager

This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical pastoral care handbook, written by two self-described queer people of faith, covers the basic skills that religious caregivers and ministry students need in order to be effective, enlightened, and supportive pastoral care providers to LGBTQ persons in congregational and other community settings. Authors Schlager and Kundtz distinguish pastoral care from pastoral counseling: while the latter is reserved for those with special training in the practice of therapy, the former can be developed by ministers and lay people with sufficient education and practice. This book requires of the reader no previous experience with LGBTQ communities and treats the following topics: the definition and functions of pastoral care; effective care in challenging times; coming out of the closet; creating communities of care; and caring for a wide variety of LGBTQ relationships. The authors provide case studies throughout the book to ground and illustrate their theology of pastoral care.
