Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book breaks down the dynamics of the most talked about parts of the Gospel or Scripture. The Gospel is made plain to all who believe. It is God's living Word, which became flesh in manifestation of Jesus Christ. God's Word is truly like a puzzle, which can only be pieced together by faith. Nevertheless, I don't find it strange that God would want it this way. He is clear that He wants our diligent, wholehearted efforts in knowing Him and receiving His glorious kingdom. This book is the true definition of tough love.

Book excerpt: The chase is on and the stakes are high in this western in Ralph Compton's USA Today bestselling series. They’re ex-cowpunchers looking to strike it rich—and not having much success. When they deliver a wagon of scotch to a shantytown saloon, the bartender drops dead before paying. No sooner do they take over the bar as payment than it burns to the ground. The cloud above Arlo Wells and Dallas Holt has no silver lining… They finally get a break when they receive a message from an old friend, along with a map. It seems the grizzled prospector finally hit the mother lode in the Superstitious Mountains, only to die shortly thereafter. His last wish was for the two boys to find his beloved nieces and share the claim with them—easy money, except for a few minor problems… Like the despicable stepfather who’s got the nieces, a gang of hired gunmen, and the other half of the map and the Apaches who’ll slaughter anyone daring to tread the ground of their sacred mountains. For Arlo and Dallas, this lucky break may be the worst thing ever to happen to them… More Than Six Million Ralph Compton Books In Print!

Book excerpt: The word of God is real. Author and pastor Karen Proctor has experienced it in her life, and shes seen it work in the lives of others. In Say It Aint So!, she offers evidence of the importance of knowing, believing, and applying the word of God to our lives each and every day. Using her experiences as a pastor, along with Biblical stories and quotations, Proctor stresses the central role the word of God plays in Christians lives. She explains how God backs up every bit of his written and spoken word and that we need to believe, obey, and speak it. There is nothing magical about it, yet there is great substance behind every word. These words have been tried and proven throughout history and are relevant in present-day society. In Say It Aint So!, Proctor encourages Christians to stand on the word of God, and your faith will be intensified even when it seems all odds are stacked up against you in any situation.

A friendly poker game leads Henry Swann out to Hollywood where he tries to find the man, Rusty Jacobs, responsible for embezzling $1,000,000 from his client, and then bring back the dough. Swann finds Jacobs, but the mercurial wannabe film producer is involved in a “surefire” movie project aimed at the growing Christian market. And the money? Well, it seems to have vanished into thin air. At the same time, thanks to his irrepressible partner, Goldblatt, Swann finds himself knee-deep in the New York City art world, as he tries to get justice for another client who’s possibly been defrauded on the purchase of a valuable painting that may or may not be a fake. As if this isn’t enough to keep him busy, in the midst of these two troubling cases, Swann finds that the teenage son whom he hasn’t seen in a dozen years has run away from his grandparent’s Minnesota home and, chasing after a girl, has possibly become involved with a cult. And so, a guilt-ridden Swann has to take time out from his paying cases to find his son. Praise for the Henry Swann Mysteries: “I always love it when I come across a new private detective to admire and worship, someone who is brave where I’m weak, someone who gets his hands dirty while I keep mine clean. Henry Swann is such a detective and he tells a great story. For fans of hard-boiled mysteries or just plain old good fiction, I’m sure you’ll love Swann Dives In.” —Jonathan Ames, author of Wake Up, Sir! and the creator of Bored to Death. “Smart, satisfying, even profound, this is exactly what every mystery reader is looking for: A terrific story, full of wit and originality, and a master class in voice. Charles Salzberg is a true talent, and his Henry Swann is a classic—complex, hilarious, and completely charming.” —Hank Phillippi Ryan, Mary Higgins Clark award winner for The Other Woman, Agatha winner for The Wrong Girl, on Swann’s Lake of Despair “Salzberg’s a hell of a writer. He delivers thrills, insight and plenty of laughs. Swann is a very cool take on the classic PI.” —Andrew Klavan, author of True Crime, on Swann’s Last Song

Book excerpt: Dealing with Difficult Situations: The Processing of the Lord is the testimony of Wayne and Charmaine Brown, as they were being processed by God in their season of preparation for the ministry. It gives insight into how all believers in Christ can respond to life’s challenges, partnering with God, and allowing His processing to have Christ formed in them. God takes His time to shape and form the man before the ministry. He has been shaping His Church (the Body of Christ) for over two thousand years. In every season of life, there is seed, process, and harvest. Process involves challenges, and it is important that we have the right response to God in the midst of life’s challenges. As we go through challenges, it is also important that we have a correct and accurate posture, knowing that through our suffering, God’s glory will emerge. The result of all God’s work is to have Christ formed in us so we can fulfill His purposes accurately and in His nature.

Book excerpt: Willie Bledsoe, only in his twenties, is totally burned out. After leaving behind a snug berth at Tuskegee Institute to join the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in Detroit to try to change the world, Willie quickly grows disenchanted and returns home to Alabama to try to come to grips about his time in the cultural whirlwind. But the surprise return of his Vietnam veteran brother in the spring of 1967 gives him a chance to drive a load of stolen guns back up to the Motor City, which would give him enough money to jump-start his dream of moving to New York. There, on the opening day of the 1968 baseball season—postponed two days in deference to the funeral of Martin Luther King, Jr.—Willie learns some terrifying news: the Detroit police are still investigating the last unsolved murder from the bloody, apocalyptic race riot of the previous summer, and a Detroit cop named Frank Doyle will not rest until the case is solved. And Willie is his prime suspect. Bill Morris' rich and thrilling new novel sets Doyle's hunt against the tumultuous history of one of America's most fascinating cities, as Doyle and Willie struggle with disillusionment, revenge, and forgiveness—and the realization that justice is rarely attainable, and rarely just.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dying father's testimony to his children about faith, covenants, and eternal life. Navigate the Strait is an insightful look at one man’s journey through an active life of teaching in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is ending in the slow, downward spiral of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Yet his happy, sustaining faith and his love for his “all caring” Tiffany and their three children, Lincoln, Edison, and Abigail, drive his passion to finish this book. He wants his family and friends to KNOW him better after the disease will likely take his life. This book is a must for anyone who wants to teach, understand, or gain the strength to live the gospel of Jesus Christ.. You will find in it stories, ideas, and teaching examples that express the doctrine of Christ in simple ideas that make life betterI’m just a normal guy with a testimony of Jesus Christ. Then I got ALS. Bummer. ALS is taking away everything that I am good at: speaking, typing, fixing things, hugging my wife and children. I am writing this book with one finger on a mouse or with my eyes controlling my iPhone. On the bright side, I finally have something in common with Stephen Hawking. Now that my disease has reduced my life to complete dependence on others, what am I worth? Well… I am still a good teacher. I love my Savior. I love the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I look at the gospel in a nonlinear fashion, thinking critically about how gospel teachings connect to one another and to our personal struggles. If all truth is circumscribed into one whole, we need to think deeply, and sometimes creatively, about how the gospel connects to us and to others. Since ALS will take my life, I will likely not be around to teach these ideas to my kids in the moment they need a lesson. I pray that this little book of “Dad’s testimony” will help my children and grandchildren as they grow and need answers to their questions. If you happen to read it, and if it helps you on your journey, that’s great too. When we meet, let me know what you liked. Most of my writings are about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While I present many ideas within the framework of church doctrine and culture, I hope that anyone can learn something useful from what I have learned. I am no scriptorian. I have never taught religion at BYU. I don’t know the location of the Ark, the lost tribes of Israel, the Book of Mormon cities, or Nikola Tesla’s death ray. These ideas are my own, based on my prayerful study of doctrine and scriptures. But don’t just take my word, go to the source and see for yourself! If anything in this book conflicts with living prophet, then I am wrong. Stick with the prophet. I do know that Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of all mankind. I know that he loves you and me—even when life gets hard. If you have never looked into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I encourage you to visit ComeUntoChrist.org to learn the basics. You can ask questions and even invite missionaries to visit your house and share a message with your family. You will discover that the kingdom of God has been restored to the earth in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You will hear about a living prophet of Christ on the earth who speaks with authority like Moses, Elijah or Peter. And you will learn more about Jesus Christ in the Book of Mormon as a companion to the Bible. That is what we mean when we say ”it’s true.”This book is my attempt to dive deeper into those simple truths. It is organized by topic, so feel free to jump around— and to jump out to the scriptures. I hope this book makes you happy.

I’ve always hated the assumption that Democrats and big unions represent the average working man. Wrong. As a carpenter, I demand the freedom to keep more of my own money to help my OWN family, rather than see the government steal it, waste it, and give a little bit back in the name of “caring.” I’m trying to create a future for myself, but the government is trying to create dependency. And they are doing it with MY MONEY!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the Souls of Black Folks examines the impact of black religious culture in shaping the ethical values and sociopolitical condition of U.S. blacks. The book reviews the nexus of theological traditions and historical factors that have formed black churches as environments where preachers serve as the moral compass for black churchgoers. For the Souls of Black Folks builds upon the work of sociologist W. E. B. Du Bois, who highlighted the presence of a double consciousness in the collective psyche of blacks stemming from racial oppression. The book explores the ways in which that double consciousness, often reflected in black preaching, socializes black Christians to subjugate their own moral authority to that of black preachers. The central argument is that this socialization to submit to preachers greatly underserves black churchgoers in developing and exercising their own power and authority as social agents, and thus significantly impedes the full sociopolitical liberation of all blacks. The book offers important new preaching strategies that more effectively facilitate the empowerment of blacks as critical agents of social transformation and healing in the twenty-first century.

Tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone! There is coming a time when Jesus will say to “would-be Christians,” “I never knew you” (Matthew 7:23). The Hebrew/Jewish wedding depicts a faithful and true Bride waiting for the return of the Bridegroom. Currently, the Bridegroom, Jesus Christ, is preparing a mansion of many rooms for His Bride in the Heavenly, Celestial City of God. This New Jerusalem is to be our eternal dwelling place in the presence of the Glory of God. Soon the Father of the Bridegroom will say “Son, go get her? Are you ready to be that spotless Bride of Christ? Will a faithful and true Bride be spared the Lord’s wrath? Does God have a plan to again separate light from darkness? What is your Tribulation destiny? These are some of the mysteries of the New Testament and the secrets of the Old Testament Scriptures. The key to the riddle of understanding these end-time prophetic questions depends upon unveiling Scripture passages, and an understanding of the Hebraic roots of the Christian faith. Let this journey be a path of discovery, and a time of spiritual renewal for you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the spring of 2069, the last of the twenty-four Central Care Complexes had been completed. Scattered throughout that part of North America formerly known as the United States, each Complex occupied a large, highly-fortified section of what once had been a major metropolis; and all, contrary to their euphemistic names, had been established to serve but one purposethat of protecting those despots whose former political, bureaucratic and religious hide-outs could no longer be secured from the mad masses they had created. Each Complex was populated by a Director, several Deputy Directors and Charges, and as many captive Members as were able to survive the twenty hour work shifts, starvation rations and increasingly insane dictates of their overlords. Any infraction of any of the innumerable rules could meet, at the Directors discretion, with a sentence of injection or expulsion. Conditioned to fear the latter above all else, Members, given the choice, nearly always opted for a quick, relatively painless death within familiar confines, as opposed to the dreaded Outside. The compulsory indoctrination sessions which occupied most of the waking hours of the young were devoted, primarily, to demonizing human sexuality. Within the Complex, Members were forbidden to have sex with other humans, but were required to have sex, at specific intervals, with a machine--:the Master-Bator. And not too secondarily, the sessions were given to exaggerating conditions on the Outside that needed no exaggeration. Assured daily that there was no hope of survival outside the walls of the Complex, warned of the myriad tortures that would precede being eaten alive, with but a rare maverick exception, the Members docilely complied with all the Directives they could remember and settled into the weary, hungry, hobbled existence of being privileged to be enslaved. THE COMPLEX CHRONICLES, set in a not too distant future, is a Libertarians satirical dystopian extrapolation on present day society. Richard Condon said: The job of satire is to frighten and enlighten. The writer hopes she has done her job well and makes no apologies for the brutal nature of the book, except to say that she has never learned how to make future shining cities on a hill out of present dung-heaps.
