Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God’s Scoundrels and Misfits examines the relationships of biblical characters with God and with each other. Some took advantage of the second chances God offered them while others missed the opportunities to change the direction of their lives. Lessons learned from the choices they made and the outcomes they experienced are explored in the context of modern families and individuals. Sibling rivalry, unbridled ambition, women’s issues, suffering, and forgiveness are some of the issues that are brought forward into contemporary living. The times may have changed, but the challenges remain the same.
Book Synopsis Genesis to Revelation: A Taste of the Entire Bible by : Stephen J. Bedard
Download or read book Genesis to Revelation: A Taste of the Entire Bible written by Stephen J. Bedard and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why another book on the Bible? Many people, inside and outside the church, agree that the Bible is important and valuable. But how do you go about reading it? Many start at the beginning. Genesis is interesting and the first part of Exodus is good. But then the reader gets into lists of laws and architectural descriptions and genealogies. Many well-meaning Bible readers have died in the wastelands of Leviticus and Numbers. While sympathetic to these struggles, I know that the Bible is valuable, even in the books that seem the most difficult. This book takes the reader through the entire Bible. Instead of pressuring the reader to read every verse, select passages are assigned to give the reader a taste of the Bible and hopefully an interest in learning about the rest of the Bible.

No respectable woman would have anything to do with the "Bane and Blight of the Ballisters"—and he wants nothing to do with respectable women. He's determined to continue doing what he does best—sin and sin again—and all that's going swimmingly, thank you . . . until the day a shop door opens and she walks in. She's too intelligent to fall for the worst man in the world . . . Jessica Trent is a determined young woman, and she's going to drag her imbecile brother off the road to ruin, no matter what it takes. If saving him—and with him, her family and future—means taking on the devil himself, she won't back down. The trouble is, the devil in question is so shockingly irresistible, and the person who needs the most saving is—herself!
Book Synopsis Business & Economics by : Abraham Kuyper
Download or read book Business & Economics written by Abraham Kuyper and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2021-02-24 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kuyper on the Positive Potential of Business In his vast treasury of writings, Abraham Kuyper addressed nearly every sphere of society, including politics, science, and the arts. But his views on business and economics are often overlooked because he rarely engaged with that sphere directly. Still, his doctrine of common grace has great significance for showing how Christ is at work in the workplace. In this anthology of essays, speeches, and reflections, we see Kuyper's attempts to think positively and creatively about the calling and potential of business. Included are his ideas about economic freedom, the eternal value of earthly work, stewardship and philanthropy, economic globalization, the workings of God's grace in business, and the social function of money.
Download or read book Disquiet Time written by Jennifer Grant and published by Jericho Books. This book was released on 2014-10-21 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An engaging and hilarious collection that encourages readers to tackle those strange, awkward, worrying, yet endlessly compelling passages of the Bible. The Bible is full of not-so-precious moments, from murder and mayhem, to sex and slavery. Now, an incredible cast of contributors tackles the parts of the Bible that most excite, frustrate, or comfort, like: What the heck is the book of Revelation really about? (The answer will surprise you.) How do we come to grips with the Bible's troubling (or seemingly troubling) passages about the role of women? Why did the artist of the oldest known picture of Jesus intentionally paint him with a wonky eye -- and what does it tell us about beauty? Disquiet Time was written by and for Bible-loving Christians, agnostics, skeptics, none-of-the-aboves, and people who aren't afraid to dig deep spiritually, ask hard questions, and have some fun along the way.
Book Synopsis Abingdon Old Testament Commentaries: Deuteronomy by : Prof. Walter Brueggemann
Download or read book Abingdon Old Testament Commentaries: Deuteronomy written by Prof. Walter Brueggemann and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Abingdon Old Testament Commentaries series offers compact, critical commentaries on all the books of the Old Testament. In addition to providing fundamental information on and insights into Old Testament writings, these commentaries exemplify the tasks and procedures of careful, critical exegesis so as to assist students of the Old Testament in coming to an informed engagement of the biblical texts themselves. These commentaries are written with special attention to the needs and interests of theology students, but they will also be useful for students in upper-level college or university settings, as well as for pastors and other church leaders. Each volume consists of four parts: -- an introduction that addresses the key issues raised by the writing; the literary genre, structure, and character of the writing; the occasional and situational context of the writing, including its wider social and historical context; and the theological and ethical significance of the writing within these several contexts-- a commentary on the text, organized by literary units, covering literary analysis, exegetical analysis, and theological and ethical analysis-- an annotated bibliography-- a brief subject index In this volume on Deuteronomy, Brueggemann shows the significance of the Book of Deuteronomy to the shape and substance of Israel's faith in the Old Testament. Deuteronomy gave classic articulation to the main themes characteristic of Judaism, and, derivatively, of Christianity. Brueggemann emphasizes that Deuteronomy is an expression of covenant theology, whereby YHWH and Israel are pledged to exclusive loyalty and fidelity to each other; YHWH is to assure the well-being of Israel, and Israel is to live in trust and obedience to YHWH. In examining the relationship of Israel to God, Brueggemann makes suggestions on how such covenant fidelity might be lived out by believers today. "Brueggemann's commentary on the Book of Deuteronomy provides an accessible exegetical and theological understanding of a crucial biblical text. The introduction presents Deuteronomy as an expression of the radical Yahwistic alternative to the political rhetoric and ideology of the Israelite monarchy in the eighth and seventh centuries. Each section consists of an introduction, exegesis, and theological and ethical analysis of the essential elements that form the core of Deuteronomy's message to the Israelite community. The choice between 'covenant' and 'idol' that forms the crux of the text's message is further interpreted in light of the concern for covenant faithfulness as expressed in the rest of the OT and in the proclamation of the NT. Brueggemann explores how this same choice is reflected in the political and ideological voices that address the community of faith today. This commentary introduces the Book of Deuteronomy to theological students, pastors and teachers and points to the relevance of its message for those who seek to bring the alternative biblical message into the current cultural conversation."--Beverly White Cushman, Calvin College, in Religious Studies Review, Volume 29 Number 3, July 2003.
