Book excerpt: Women have a special place in God’s plan and in his heart. They are uniquely made and have many jobs as mothers, teachers, counselors, nurses, chefs, and chauffeurs in addition to business owners, supervisors, technical whizzes, and hard-working employees. Then the world turned upside-down in 2020. The pandemic caused women to modify their lifestyles and tackle new responsibilities while trying to keep some semblance of normalcy within their families. It wasn’t easy. These unprecedented struggles were overwhelming and caused many women to feel alone, depressed, frustrated, hopeless, and just plain tired. Can you relate? Are you one of those women who feels like you are drowning and maybe even invisible to God? Have you forgotten what his peace feels like? Maybe you have never felt his presence. In God’s Fruit Salad, author Diana Kinser offers a contemporary look at the fruit of the Spirit for women in all areas and walks of life. She is a battle-worn grandmother who has been in the fire of life many times, including battling Covid in ICU on a breathing machine. Kinser wants you to know that even when life seems dark and hopeless, God is still there. She knows the sweetest fruit in a Christian’s life comes from the deepest pain. With wisdom and love only a grandmother can give, she gently encourages women to see their value in every situation.

Book excerpt: The goal of this book is to introduce Gods Spiritual Fruit to children. In the process, it seemed like a good way to share knowledge about a selection of tropical fruit through art form. Most of the fruit was new to me, before I lived in The Virgin Islands for a few years. I hope children will learn about spiritual fruit-the Godly characteristics that are combined into one fruit, Gods fruit. The tropical fruit they will be presented on the pages are not to be connected to the Godly attributes given. My prayer is that we adults teach children as we demonstrate the nature of God in our daily walk of being fruitful. According to the New Living Translation of scripture, when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I hope this book will encourage children to apply the attributes found here and also see how good the fruit of God is. Included on the pages are some tropical fruit that you may have never noticed in your local grocery store. Perhaps you have seen the fruit but never tasted it. This was my situation, until I lived in the Caribbean for a while. I learned that tropical fruit is closer to the equator and sunshine therefore; tropical fruit is more potent with vitamins. I did not realize what I was missing until I tasted the unfamiliar fruit. Hopefully, you will search for the different fruit in your local grocery or local cultural food store, or while you visit a Caribbean Island. Enjoy.

Book excerpt: La Vita Weaver, an ordained minister and fitness instructor, knows firsthand how being overweight affects every aspect of one’s life. During her own battle with extra pounds—she gained eighty following the birth of her first child—she found herself struggling also with profound emotional and spiritual problems. Once a size five, she had skyrocketed to more than two hundred pounds, and her sense of self-esteem and well-being plummeted to an all-time low. After trying countless diets, she began exercising at home, playing Gospel music to keep her going. Before long, she was reciting Bible verses and singing hymns during her routines. Not only did she shed pounds and build muscle, but Weaver had gained an unexpected benefit—her exercise sessions had become precious times of praise, prayer, and inspiration. Now, the only thing she didn’t like about exercising was when she had to stop! Weaver’s sessions in her living room grew into a video series called Hallelujah! Aerobics and, ultimately, a fitness plan designed to meet the needs of the whole person. In FIT FOR GOD, her inspirational voice and her expertise as the leader of hundreds of successful fitness workshops are woven together in a highly effective eight-week program of diet, exercise, prayer, and praise. Combining solid nutritional information and exercise routines with inspiring passages from the Bible, her program will encourage even the most reluctant workout candidate to follow her example and embrace the rewards of becoming “fit for God.”

Book excerpt: When Joyce Meyer posted 'God's not mad at you' on Facebook a few months ago, she didn't realise that those five words would trigger thousands of posts of gratitude and relief. She had obviously hit a nerve. 'Where does this concept of God come from?' she asks in the introduction. 'Perhaps from an angry parent who was difficult to please. Or the pain of rejection from parents or friends who didn't know how to give unconditional love. Perhaps it came from the church! From religious teaching that offered us rules and regulations to follow and implied that we'd be unacceptable to God if we didn't follow them.' It's a paradox that isn't often discussed by Christian teachers: God loved the world so much that He gave His son to rescue mankind. Yet we tend to think of Him as a stern judge who is ready to punish us at the slightest mis-step. In God Is Not Mad At You, Joyce examines the sources of this mixed message and untangles the confusion that most Christians experience. Chapter titles include: Perfectionism and Approval The Pain of Rejection Guilt and Shame Developing Your Potential Run To God, Not From Him Getting Comfortable with God Joyce's latest book addresses a need that isn't often discussed within the Christian community: the need to see God as the loving parent that He is, not a petty tyrant who is ready to pounce at the first opportunity. It will help to clarify for readers one of the greatest misconceptions within the church and free them to experience His love on an entirely new level.

It was my first Christmas since my mother had gone to her heavenly home. I did not want to be alone, depressed, and sad, for I believe my mother is in heaven, based upon her acceptance of Jesus Christ as her Savior. I believe she would want our family and me to have a happy Christmas. In this book, I shared some of the events that were part of my Christmas season as God answered my prayer! All the time, God had His eye on me, teaching me and showing me that He is aware of all things and that He knew my every concern, for I do matter to Him. I pray these simple stories from my life will help you realize that God knows every detail about you. If you are a born-again Christian, I hope my stories encourage you. If you do not know Jesus as your Savior, please ask Him to save you. “This book will touch your heart. It shows if we will place our faith and trust in God, that He will supply our every need. Clearly, no matter who we are, or whatever station in life we hold, we all, matter to God.” —Rev. John M. King, Monroe, Georgia “Truly encouraging! I could not stop reading!” —Lois A. It is through such dialogue as a form of theological reflection that Christians can hope for the emergence of new forms of faith and practice that are relevant to the complexities of contemporary life. The author's style and openness make this accessible to the general reader as well as the scholar.

Book excerpt: Winner of the 2016 Religious Communication Association Book of the Year Award In God Mocks, Terry Lindvall ventures into the muddy and dangerous realm of religious satire, chronicling its evolution from the biblical wit and humor of the Hebrew prophets through the Roman Era and the Middle Ages all the way up to the present. He takes the reader on a journey through the work of Chaucer and his Canterbury Tales, Cervantes, Jonathan Swift, and Mark Twain, and ending with the mediated entertainment of modern wags like Stephen Colbert. Lindvall finds that there is a method to the madness of these mockers: true satire, he argues, is at its heart moral outrage expressed in laughter. But there are remarkable differences in how these religious satirists express their outrage. The changing costumes of religious satirists fit their times. The earthy coarse language of Martin Luther and Sir Thomas More during the carnival spirit of the late medieval period was refined with the enlightened wit of Alexander Pope. The sacrilege of Monty Python does not translate well to the ironic voices of Soren Kierkegaard. The religious satirist does not even need to be part of the community of faith. All he needs is an eye and ear for the folly and chicanery of religious poseurs. To follow the paths of the satirist, writes Lindvall, is to encounter the odd and peculiar treasures who are God’s mouthpieces. In God Mocks, he offers an engaging look at their religious use of humor toward moral ends.

Book excerpt: Abstract theology is overrated, for God can be found in even the most ordinary of things. Jesus used things like a lily, sparrow, and sheep to teach about the kingdom of God. And in the Old Testament, God repeatedly describes himself and his saving work in relation to physical things such as a rock, horn, or eagle. In God of All Things, pastor and author Andrew Wilson invites you to rediscover God in this way, too--through ordinary, everyday things. He explores the idea of a material world and presents a variety of created marvels that reveal the gospel in everyday life and fuel worship and joy in God--marvels like: Dust: the image of God Horns: the salvation of God Donkeys: the peace of God Water: the life of God Viruses: the problem of God Cities: the kingdom of God God of All Things will leave you with a deeper understanding of Scripture, the world you live in, and the God who made it all.

He said he was kicked out of the cooking universe for gross abuse of something or other. (I think it was snorting curry or cinnamon.) Anyway, he made a deal with me to publish this book and help single guys eat better and save cash. There is a lot of basic information (shopping, supplies, tools, etc.). But more important, you will learn how to enjoy food that you make yourself. You will become an adventurer, an explorer and conqueror of meat, vegetables, and condiments.
