Book excerpt: Life is a continuous poem. As the poems continue, so does the journey. One day, the journey led him to a fork in the roadone sign pointing to the world and the other sign to the way, the truth, and the life. He is still on the road he took leading to the way, the truth and the life. However, a strange thing happened on this journey. The road he took led him through the world. But he was not afraid. Having seen the world through his eyes, he was now seeing it through the eyes of God. Having seen today, he could see tomorrow. Oh sure, he stumbled and he fell, but there was always a hand reaching out to pick him up and brush him off. There was always a smile that told him he was loved. These pages are the poems of his journey, one that continues still. Maybe its yours.

Book excerpt: Three weeks before he turns 18, Pat Harold Carter meets a Southern belle named Evelyn at Louisiana College, and he's immediately smitten. Under normal circumstances, he'd proceed with a typical courtship, but it is 1944, and so he signs up to join the Navy. It's better than being drafted as an infantryman, he thinks. But two years later and in ill health, Pat is still in the Navy. Evelyn, now a junior, is impressed with the cool, young veterans who are enrolling in college. Against all odds, however, Pat and Evelyn put faith first and decide to adventure with God. They marry, and their life becomes a poem full of truth, passion and goodness. Whether they are in New Orleans, San Francisco, Texas or in the northern desert of Mexico, the couple never fails to learn the lessons of prayer and faith as they confront the evils of the world. Take a journey with Pat and Evelyn and interpret their life as a poem of God, written in rhyme with the life of Caleb, the Old Testament warrior. They never stop believing in God Gave Me a Rhyme.

Book excerpt: Once again, in addition to the magnificent book-poem, "the Rhyme of the Gospels", Mr. Benett has continued his expertise herein, by setting the apostle's letters, extant and compiled in the Protestant New Testament, to rhyme. The inspired book-poem is most worthy of the readers praise. It is unique and original poetry. Who has not appreciated the works of Dr. Seuss or listening to poems that mimic The Night Before Christmas? Imagine if the Bible, Gods Word, were put into that format. Would that not also capture attention? Read the following excerpt about the circumstances surrounding the death of Lazarus. Read it slowly and with care. 11:20 When the word had come to Martha That Jesus was coming by, While Mary stayed inside the home, She went out to ask Him why. 11:21 Lord, if You had been here on time, My brother would not have died, 11:22 But I still know that God will give Whatever You ask, she cried. 11:23 Your brother, He said, will rise again. She replied without question, 11:24 I know hell rise on the last day, In the resurrection. 11:25 Im the resurrection and life, To her was His reply. He who believes in Me will live, Even if he should die. 11:26 And everyone who is alive, And in Me their faith does cleave, These ones will never, ever die. Is this what you believe? This book is the beginning work of putting Gods Word to rhythm and rhyme. Enjoy the writings of the apostle John as you have read before but to the beat of a drum and to a sound that will impact your heart.

She began writing as a small girl when she discovered that it wasn't easy to express her thoughts and feelings in her childhood home. Instead, she wrote notes and buried them in the backyard, only to dig them up later. As an adult, she began writing poetry and stories as a sort of self-therapy in an attempt to heal herself from a dysfunctional and abusive childhood. In these verses, she writes about family and her early love for her older brother, and how that love was destroyed through betrayal and all the other emotional ups and downs of growing up in a dysfunctional family, especially the hurt and the confusion when things are not as they appear to be. ""Healing Myself, One Rhyme at a Time is a memoir in poem and story ... a hero's journey that inspires us to find our way to healing and wholeness. ... It is raw, it is honest, it is love." -Shelley Morningsong, singer/songwriter

Book excerpt: The Whole Booke of Psalmes was one of the most published and widely read books of early modern England, running to over 1000 editions between the 1570s and the early eighteenth century. It offered all of the Psalms paraphrased in verse with appropriate tunes, together with an assortment of other scriptural and non-scriptual hymns, and prose prayers for domestic use. Because the Elizabethan Church rapidly and pervasively (if unofficially) adopted this metrical psalter for congregational singing, and because it had in practical terms no rivals for church use until the end of the seventeenth century, essentially the entire conforming population of early modern England after 1570 would have been familiar with its psalms and hymns as elements of both public worship and private devotion. Yet, despite the significant impact of The Whole Booke of Psalmes upon English culture and literature, this is the first book-length study of it, and the first sustained critical examination of the texts of which it comprises. In large part this neglect is due to the reputation it gained after the mid-seventeenth century as a work of poor poetry mainly valued by vulgar and/or sectarian audiences. This later reception, however, was the product of not only changing literary tastes but an ideological desire to reshape the history of the Reformation. This study focuses on the actual aims of its authors and editors over the course of its gradual composition during the tumultuous religious changes of the mid-sixteenth century, and recovers its significant influence on the English church and literary practice. By tracing the ways in which historical contingency, religious fervor and the print marketplace together created and were changed by one of the most successful books of English verse ever printed, this study opens a new window through which to view the intellectual and ecclesiastical culture of Tudor England. It also shows how, in metrical psalmody, Protestant reformers discovered what turned out to be a uniquely flexible and effective instrument for advancing their vision of a godly society.
