Book excerpt: ‘Superbly written, utterly Bible based. . . Do not hesitate!’ Archbishop Justin Welby What are we supposed to think about the coronavirus crisis? Some people think they know: ‘This is a sign of the End,’ they say. ‘It’s all predicted in the book of Revelation.’ Others disagree but are equally clear: ‘This is a call to repent. God is judging the world and through this disease he’s telling us to change.’ Some join in the chorus of blame and condemnation: ‘It’s the fault of the Chinese, the government, the World Health Organization...' Tom Wright examines these reactions to the virus and finds them wanting. Instead, he invites you to consider a different way of seeing and responding – a way that draws on the teachings and examples of scripture, and above all on the way of living, thinking and praying revealed to us by Jesus.

Book excerpt: “This is a time when the fragile form of this world is felt. The seemingly solid foundations are shaking. The question we should be asking is, Do we have a Rock under our feet? A Rock that cannot be shaken—ever?” —John Piper On January 11, 2020, a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) reportedly claimed its first victim in the Hubei province of China. By March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization had declared a global pandemic. In the midst of this fear and uncertainty, it is natural to wonder what God is doing. In Coronavirus and Christ, John Piper invites readers around the world to stand on the solid Rock, who is Jesus Christ, in whom our souls can be sustained by the sovereign God who ordains, governs, and reigns over all things to accomplish his wise and good purposes for those who trust in him. What is God doing through the coronavirus? Piper offers six biblical answers to that question, showing us that God is at work in this moment in history.

Book excerpt: The Glory of God cannot be diminished, usurped, or eradicated! We may have been acquainted with the most horrific time in history due to the Covid-19 pandemic. At the creation of this book, the statics showed a total of 81,681,986 confirmed Covid-19 cases globally, 1,781,713 deaths, and counting. Terms like unprecedented and uncertain have soared through the current climate as easily as birds take flight through the air. Anxiety, frustration, and fears have led many to an unhealthy coping mechanism like alcoholism, drug use, and outlets of anger and strife. Others have experienced loneness like no other time, depression burrowing at extreme depths and heart-wrenching loss of loved ones, who could not overcome the upheaval from the demonic fangs of such a deadly virus. The economic downturn has increased the amount of crime and fraudulent activity in society. The governmental decision-makers have arm-wrestled vigorously over whether to provide a stimulus package that would help millions of unemployed, or underemployed parties pay their rent and put food on their tables. Alternatively, to object to the release of funds in fear that large portions of the world would use the money for unnecessary luxuries, such as, new gadgets and/ or materialistic items. In my personal opinion, if we have been placed in a position to spend hard-earned dollars on elevated amounts of hand sanitizers, aerosol disinfectants, mask, gloves, other forms of PPE, and even the frequent visits to medical facilities to be tested, then an amount greater than six hundred dollars is warranted to those who qualify. Especially, for those who can no longer physically enter their places of employment in order to provide for their families. However, one thing remains the same, God is still in control! I repeat God is still in control, and we must never forget His power and presence that surpasses our finite understanding. I have written this book in hope that it would recalibrate our focus from the troubles of this world to a firm and solid trust in God's sovereignty. The Bible records (Isaiah 41:10 ESV) "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand". Please be advised that this pandemic did not catch our God by surprise. We serve a God who is omnipotent in His infinite power, omniscient in His knowledge and wisdom of the things that have and will take place, but my favorite attribute on His nature is that He is omnipresent. God has not removed Himself from this current tribulation and times of testing. If anything, He is closer to us than ever before. We must acknowledge this truth and intentionally draw closer to Him through every facet of this time and space. The title of this book says what it means and means precisely what it says, "God Has Covid!" He is in total control of the matter. This pandemic will not and shall not do more nor less than what Almighty God allows. The scripture says "be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you." We must remember that He has an unconditional love for His children and will keep them strong in the midst of whatever we face, and will help us through the ever-present help of the Holy Spirit working within us. Although, our Heavenly Father is not flesh and blood, and cannot physically contract the virus; it can be taken in the literal sense that "God HAS Covid."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the best-selling author of God and Donald Trump, which was brandished by the president at the World Economic Forum in Davos How the Pandemic Is Affecting Christians, the World, and America's 2020 Election This book is a timely follow up to God, Trump and the 2020 Election that reveals insider information about China, the virus, and the ever-increasing stakes of the upcoming election. It will answer the question for the Christian believers (and seekers) of where God is in all this? It provides a little known prophecy by the late David Wilkerson about a plague coming that would shut down the government as well as churches and bars, including shaking New York City as it’s never been shaken. Wilkerson said this plague would force believers into radical prayer that will spark an awakening--something echoed by Christian leaders and prophets. Just as the economy was booming and Donald Trump was fixing long-term problems and beating back attacks from his opponents, a brand-new virus shakes up everything including the outcome of this election. The author has inside information about what happened in China early in the pandemic and what went wrong. He even documents how Donald Trump has led the nation in this time of crisis. In 2016, God raised up Donald Trump to lead America at a pivotal time. Evangelicals who recognized this backed him more than any other presidential candidate in history. Heading into Election Day 2020, the stakes are even higher, especially with the uncertainty and upheaval caused by COVID-19. This book is really “part two” of God, Trump and the 2020 Election which details the fight for the soul of America. Strang believes readers need both books to understand and explain what’s at stake. With the shutdown caused by the pandemic, serious anti-Christian trends surfaced, such as some states closing “non-essential” churches but allowing liquor stores to provide curbside service. Or ceasing all elective surgeries except abortion, which is the taking of a life while the purpose in shutting down the economy was to save lives from this dreaded virus. In the no-man’s land between the two, this curious outside wondered about the God they worshipped—and began a lifelong search to comprehend the grace and mystery of God. A Stranger in the House of God addresses fundamental questions and struggles faced by spiritual seekers and mature believers. Like a contemporary Pilgrim’s Progress, it traces the author’s journey and explores his experiences with both charismatic and evangelical Christianity. It also describes his transformation from religious outsider to ordained pastor. John Koessler provides a poignant and often humorous window into the interior of the soul as he describes his journey from doubt and struggle with the church to personal faith

Book excerpt: This open access book presents the scientific views of some fifty experts on how they believe the COVID-19 pandemic is currently affecting society, and how it will continue to do so in the years to come. Using the concept of a “common” (in the sense of common values, common places, common goods, and common sense), they elaborate on the transition from an Old Common to a New Common. In carefully crafted chapters, the authors address expected shifts in major fields like health, education, finance, business, work, and citizenship, applying concepts from law, psychology, economics, sociology, religious studies, and computer science to do so. Many of the authors anticipate an acceleration of the digital transformation in the forthcoming years, but at the same time, they argue that a successful shift to a new common can only be achieved by re-evaluating life on our planet, strengthening resilience at an individual level, and assuming more responsibility at a societal level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World War I changed Karl Barth's theology forever. In this book William Klempa presents for the first time in English thirteen sermons that offer Barth's unique view and commentary on the Great War. Barth saw the war as "a unique time of God," believing it to represent God's judgment on militarism. The sermons reveal a deep strain of theological wrestling with the war's meaning, as Barth comes to see the conflict as the logical outcome of all human attempts to create God in our own image. As it demonstrates a decisive shift in Barth's early theology, this volume is essential for anyone who wishes to understand the twentieth century's greatest theologian.
