Book excerpt: When people talk about or experience paranormal activity, ghosts are often a component--and enough of a component to be worth investigating and discussing. the popular theory about ghosts is that they are spirits of humans who have died, but this isn't consistent with teachings from the Bible. So, as Christians, we ask "Who and what are they?" to answer this, God, Ghosts & Christians looks briefly at various current theories, followed by an extensive look at ghosts from a Christian point of view, supported by biblical passages and personal experiences of the author and others. the author, an ordained minister, will take you through all aspects of the existence of ghosts in our world--from the ones that are demons to those that are well meaning and kind. Don't be fooled by media and nonbelievers--there is a quiet, but serious, war going on between Christians and ghosts. This book will affirm your beliefs, show you how to protect yourself and those you love and encourage you to help quiet the "whispers," and win the war.

Book excerpt: Greco-Roman religions and superstitions, and early Christianity's engagement with them, are explored in 12 unique studies. The beliefs and fears with regard to demons (or daimons), their origins, and threatening behavior are examined, both in their pagan and Judaeo-Christian contexts. These new studies look at the Greco-Roman heroic gods, how they faced death, and how James and John, the “sons of Thunder,” may well have been viewed in some circles as the equivalent of the “sons of Zeus”, Castor and Pollux. The contributors also explore Roman omens, especially as they relate to Rome's legendary founder Romulus and what light they shed on the omens that accompany the birth and death of Jesus of Nazareth. Particular focus is placed upon Paul, binding spells, women and hymns of exaltation, along with atheism in late antiquity, with special consideration of the charlatan Alexander. Finally, there is a re-visitation of the confusion, misinformation and legends surrounding the discovery of the Qumran caves, including fear of jinn. This book provides invaluable resources for precisely how early Christians interacted with different ideas and traditions around gods and spirits - both benevolent and malevolent - in the Greco-Roman world.

Book excerpt: Priest, poet and broadcaster Rachel Mann believes the world is charged with a divine spark. She explains how in our encounters with what she terms 'the spectres of God', one can become at peace with limitation, precariousness, lack of certainty, and one's fragility and fractures - and at the same time find in divine fragility the hope of the world. Drawing on her own experiences, in three short chapters (on the body, on love, and on time) Mann explores how God invites us, repeatedly, to live in a rich three-dimensional mystery that subverts the depressing flat-earth of modern life.

In addition, you’ll learn about the different gifts that are in the body of Christ. Another thing that this book will teach you about is the Corinthian Church and why Paul wrote some of the things that he did about judging. It will teach you various kinds of judging that is biblical. I also wrote some of my own supernatural experiences in this book as well. May the peace of God be with you all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people believe in angels and evil spirits, and popular culture abounds in talk about encounters with such entities. Yet the question of the existence of such spirits is ignored in the academy. Even the Christian Church, which one might expect to show keen interest in transcendent realities, does not appear to be paying much attention. In this book Phillip Wiebe defends the plausibility of the traditional Christian claim that spirits are real. Wiebe examines descriptions of encounters with both good and evil transcendent beings in biblical times and in later Christian history, along with recent accounts of similar experiences. He argues that invisible beings can be postulated to explain events just as unobservable objects are postulated in many scientific theories. Beyond supporting claims for the existence of lesser spirits such as demons and angels, this empirical approach yields important results for assessing common arguments surrounding the existence of God - a question that has become artificially separated from the question of spirits as such. Grounding his argument in a wide range of phenomena - from near death experiences to demonic possession - Wiebe offers a sophisticated case for belief in God on philosophical and epistemological grounds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WINNER OF THE NON-FICTION BOOK OF THE YEAR AT THE 2015 Paranormal Awards. Many Evangelical and Fundamental Christian writers (I would call them theologians but with many it is quite evident that they have not had training in Biblical Scholarship past Sunday morning Bible School) claim that the popular concept of a ghost and spectral hauntings are unbiblical. Many Catholic theologians would agree with this view. But in the whole of Christianity, these beliefs vary quite broadly. Christian cynics condemn ghost hunters by supposedly relying upon scripture in the Old Testament. They use Leviticus 19:31, that according to Christian critics reads as follows; "Do not resort to ghost and spirits, nor make yourselves unclean by seeking them out. I am the Lord your God." Christian critics also quote Lev. 20:6, which the quote as; "I will set my face against the man who wantonly resorts to ghost and spirits, and I will cut that person off from his people." This is not true at all. In the King James Version, this verse reads as; "And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people." Many people who argue against ghosts as unbiblical also point to verses 6-8. "When we are dead, we are with God in heaven." So according to this view, there can be no such thing as a real haunting because the soul and spirit are in heaven at the point of death. The term 'sleep' is a euphemism for death in Christian Scripture (John 11:11-14). The writer for all of these books is the Apostle Paul, so rather than supporting the idea that when we die we are with God in heaven he states that those who die 'sleep'. What does this mean? It refers to the body, not the spirit or soul. The body sleeps at death until it is changed into a new supernatural one at the end of days. So what happens to our invisible part, the spirit or soul after death? Can the spirit still roam the Earth after death? The Bible does talk about ghosts, and the spirit of the dead returning to the Earth. But what about the New Testament? A lot of theological concepts evolve between the testaments, such as Grace, Forgiveness and a host of others. What about the concept of a ghost? Does this evolve as well after the teachings of Jesus? Almost everyone has heard the story of Jesus walking on water, and if you ever went to Sunday school as a kid I am sure you additionally heard about Peter attempting to do the same and failing. This tale of trust and faith has been used for millennia to teach and encourage Christians. But just before the text talks about Peter's attempt to come to Jesus on the water the text tells us something unusual: Matthew 14:25-27 "Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, 'It is a ghost!' And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." The disciples thought Jesus was a ghost. And they were afraid. Now if ghostly apparitions are all demonic presences as some Christians report, why were the disciples afraid? They were afraid because Jesus had taught them that there are such things as Human spirits. If not, then Jesus should have automatically rebuked them for their transgression in such an outcry and blasphemy. But he did not. He instead, comforted them. Saying fear not, it is I; do not be afraid. By saying this, he confirmed the existence of human spirits. It is this and many other examples I shall show you in full detail in this book that human spirits do exist and how man has change many stories and meanings to suit themselves into roles of power and destroying God's real message to man.

Book excerpt: In the book Finding Answers in The Holy Ghost, author Anthony D. Montgomery presents a detailed illustration of the various ways the Holy Ghost enable the Christian to overcome any trial. Too often has God been placed in a one sided view to appease the followers of a movement; however you will see after finishing the book that this gift was preordained to break the constraints of the devil. He addresses almost every instance of the dealings of the Holy Ghost in the lives of all mankind. God remains the central inert that alone can perform how He wants when He wants. He contends that the recipe to seeing the Holy Ghost move doesnt contend on anything but God Himself. You will travel through the different verses and get a solid foundation to the workings of Jesus. While exploring the intenseness of time, characters and central theme, there will be no doubt left that God alone is in full control of His creation. The book reminds us constantly that we are sheep with one Shepherd that left the Holy Ghost to us. The only bias is that in Him we move and have our very being. Anthony focus from beginning to end that God and Him alone is the only one that has power to produce change in our lives. People have tried to the best of their ability to explain what faith is and almost in every instance they fail because they fall short of attaching it to its source Jesus. Faith must have an object and that object is Jesus! Jesus is the only deity that has remained constant in His being able to help mankind. Although we cant unquestionably explain Him does not negate the fact that He is real. Many people think when they succeed in life it comes from luck; but the Christian must understand that his success comes from a prepared Savior that died for us. Jesus left a lasting message that He did not live to see; however He was assured it would come to past. Not only did He leave us as irrevocable beneficiaries; but the policy gave us innumerable indemnities that continue to pay benefits even after death. While reading through the book there is a constant reminder of a saying he heard as an early convert: never study to get a message, read God word and He will give you a message. Our life is a reflection of the message of salvation redeemed from the gift of our Savior. The recorded events of the Bible are detailed to show us that God is neither offensive nor defensive; on the contrary, He is Alpha and Omega. He doesnt respond like man as if He was caught off guard to the situation; He knew it would happen and had a response prepared in every case. By knowing what will happen; the all knowing Savior only allow what He knows will move us closer to His purpose. This book will keep you focused on Jesus and remove all doubt to His omnipresence. When you understand that God is the source; you wont get angry at the trials. Faith is the gift that we have that can take us from natural to supernatural through obedience. While reading you can take time to reflect as Anthony uses illustrations to what God is revealing to him through the text. The anointing is reflected with how God uses him to keep it simple when explaining Gods word. God intended for us to always pray and leave our future in His hand. The theme of this book is central in its focus to Jesus and His righteousness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Abiding Presence of the Holy Ghost in the Soul Holy Spirit, or Holy Ghost, is a term found in English translations of the Bible, but understood differently among the Abrahamic religions. For the large majority of Christians, the Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost, from Old English gast, "spirit") is the third divine person of the Trinity: the "Triune God" manifested as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; each person itself being God. The Christian doctrine of the Trinity defines God as three consubstantial persons, expressions, or hypostases: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit; "one God in three persons". The three persons are distinct, yet are one "substance, essence or nature". In this context, a "nature" is what one is, while a "person" is who one is. According to this central mystery of most Christian faiths, there is only one God in three persons: while distinct from one another in their relations of origin (as the Fourth Lateran Council declared, "it is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds") and in their relations with one another, they are stated to be one in all else, co-equal, co-eternal and consubstantial, and "each is God, whole and entire". Accordingly, the whole work of creation and grace is seen as a single operation common to all three divine persons, in which each shows forth what is proper to him in the Trinity, so that all things are "from the Father", "through the Son" and "in the Holy Spirit".
