She must move to Wyoming Territory to the home of her father's brother, the ranch owner of the Double T. She was a baby when she last saw this family of strangers. Will Savannah find a way to move back East to civilization? Will she endure the crude behavior of the characters living in the rugged West? Will she follow the advice of friends, and stay away from all cowboys? As Wyoming Territory unfolds into statehood and earns the nickname, "Equality State", Savannah may find out something new about herself--her dreams, her strengths, her family, her Cheyenne community. Throughout this story, Savannah relies on the fact that she is not alone in the world, but that God is her constant companion.
Book Synopsis Go West, Young Man by : B. J. Hollars
Download or read book Go West, Young Man written by B. J. Hollars and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2021-09 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2022 Silver Midwest Book Award Winner At the sound of the bell on the last day of kindergarten, B.J. Hollars and his six-year-old son, Henry, hop in the car to strike out on a 2,500-mile road trip retracing the Oregon Trail. Their mission: to rediscover America, and Americans, along the way. Throughout their two-week adventure, they endure the usual setbacks (car trouble, inclement weather, and father-son fatigue), but their most compelling drama involves people, privilege, and their attempt to find common ground in an all-too-fractured country. Writing in the footsteps of John Steinbeck's Travels with Charley, Hollars picks up the trail with his son more than half a century later. Together they sidle up to a stool at every truck stop, camp by every creek, and roam the West. They encounter not only the beauty and heartbreak of America, but also the beauty and heartbreak of a father and son eager to make the most of their time together. From Chimney Rock to Independence Rock to the rocky coast of Oregon, they learn and relearn the devastating truth of America's exploitative past, as well as their role within it. Go West, Young Man recounts the author's effort to teach his son the difficult realities of our nation's founding while also reaffirming his faith in America today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Reapportionment and Redistricting in the West, Gary F. Moncrief brings together some of the best-known scholars in American state and electoral politics to explore the unique processes and problems of redistricting in the western United States. These political scientists examine the specific challenges facing western states in ensuring fair and balanced political representation. Western states tend to be geographically large and experiencing rapid population growth and the chapters in this enlightening volume discuss the changing demographics in western states, paying special attention to the rise in the Latino population and the effect this has had on reapportionment and redistricting. They describe the ways in which some of these states achieve redistricting through independent redistricting commissions—a process rarely found in other regions—and they provide policy prescriptions for the future.

After deciding to keep the shell as a souvenir, the boy unexpectedly feels the crab move inside and is suddenly faced with a decision: take him home or let him go. His compassion for the crab and thoughtful decision to release him gently reminds readers of the importance of selflessness and highlights how our environment, relationships, and experiences contribute greatly to our happiness. Book Synopsis Told by the Pioneers ... by : United States. Work Projects Administration. State of Washington
Download or read book Told by the Pioneers ... written by United States. Work Projects Administration. State of Washington and published by . This book was released on 1937 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To preserve stories of pioneers, which had not already found their way into published histories and reminiscences of the State of Washington, a project was begun in the early part of 1936 as part of a Friendly Visiting Program to elderly persons receiving old age assistance from the Washington State Dept. of Public Welfare. Consequently, these elderly persons were interviewed and their early stories, which might otherwise have been lost, have been preserved as part of the pioneer lore of the State of Washington. Selected interviews and excerpts were chosen by the editors based on the most picturesque background and popular appeal for publication as Told by the Pioneers. The book states, "The originals [interviews] are on file at the State Library where they can be consulted for statistics and other data." However, WSL does not and has not had the complete collection of original interviews. The manuscript collection titled, Washington Pioneer Project Records and Interviews 1936-1937, consists of the original interviews that WSL does have that correspond with the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Celebrating the Soul of Cleveland summarizes a life in Cleveland, a city whose very identity provides sustenance and support to all who welcome it into their heart. The project started with a simple discussion. The premise of this book and for the projects described in it is: Evolution. Community Arts Leader Nina Gibans loves our collective "aha" moments, when we "get it" and roll along - excited - together. Using images, stories, poems, interviews, reflections, and reminiscences Nina weaves together a new gestalt, a whole that is often present long before the pieces are put into place. A lifetime of experiences, encounters, discussions, are the parts of this, a multi-tasking of the mind, combined until they find the parts make sense and there is a city - a community. "Here is to all of the men, women, and children who have stuck with me through my life of joyous adventures and to the support of a loving caring husband and friendly critic whose bloodstream ran in the same direction as mine." - Nina Gibans
