Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of medicine is dotted with the episodic appearance of new discoveries, scientific breakthroughs, and the development of new schools of medicine, and each has contributed to the evolution of the art and science of the practice of medicine. The founding of osteopathic medicine by Andrew Taylor Still was one such event. The development of the craniosacral concept by William G.Suther land was another. Both of these giants of osteopathic medicine en countered the reluctance of their colleagues to accept his contribu tion. Both were able to overcome this reluctance and saw the acceptance of his contribution because of the fundamental anatom ical and physiological truth supporting the concept, and the prag matic fact that their therapeutic applications were successful. Both men attracted to them individuals desirous of learning a new diag nostic and therapeutic procedure. It is fortunate that these individu als have continued to promulgate the contribution to osteopathic medicine of their mentors.

Download or read book Cell Talk written by John E. Upledger and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2010-07-13 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Craniosacral therapy (CST) has become an important modality in treating trauma and promoting wellness. With its gentle approach to working with the spine, the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia, CST has proven equally useful for physical therapists, massage therapists, naturopaths, chiropractors, and osteopaths. One reason for its success has been its underlying theory, as explained by CST pioneer John Upledger. According to Upledger, bodily tissues and cells have individual memories, and traumatic memories can be stored in these cells and tissues. Cell Talk, written for the layperson, explores this concept in depth and shows practitioners how to use it in healing their patients. The book offers simple strategies for treating disease and dysfunction by communicating with these cells to uncover the memories and then follow the healing path they suggest. Upledger blends the scientific aspects of cell biology with insights into the nature of inner consciousness, in the process uncovering the deep links between physiology, energy, health, and healing. Fascinating case studies—from people rescued from serious ailments to “talking” with AIDS cells—show how these ideas can be turned into useful medical treatment. Fascinating anecdotes from the author’s personal and work life add an intimate, human touch to this helpful book.

Book Synopsis Cranial Osteopathy by : Torsten Liem
Download or read book Cranial Osteopathy written by Torsten Liem and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2005-02-15 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cranial osteopathy is an increasingly popular treatment approach for many common disorders affecting the head and neck. This new clinical guide is the first and only in-depth resource on the subject, offering a comprehensive analysis of osteopathic dysfunctions and principles in the cranial field. It examines each cranial bone and describes its location, development, and clinical implications of dysfunction. This discussion is followed by guidance on inspection, palpation, biomechanical and biodynamical approach to the motility of each cranial bone, and explanations of appropriate intrasutural or intraosseal techniques. Excellent illustrations and step-by-step sequencing of techniques make this book an exceptionally valuable resource for clinical practice. Comprehensive approach offers in-depth coverage of the theory and practice of cranial osteopathy, as well as the anatomy and interrelationships of the structures involved. Logically organized, easy-to-follow chapters employ consistent headings for each structure and step-by-step sequencing of techniques. Extensive illustrations include high quality photographs and line drawings to clarify important concepts. The osteopathic methodology and treatment techniques are described for all cranial structures, including the osteopathic approach to headaches. A comprehensive chapter on the temporo mandibular joint includes detailed coverage of TMJ dysfunction and the osteopathic approach to treatment.
