Book Synopsis Global Climate Change by : Suruchi Singh
Download or read book Global Climate Change written by Suruchi Singh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global Climate Change presents both practical and theoretical aspects of global climate change from across geological periods. It addresses holistic issues related to climate change and its contribution in triggering the temperature increase with a multitude of impacts on natural processes. As a result, it helps to identify the gaps between policies that have been put in place and the continuously increasing emissions. The challenges presented include habitability, biodiversity, natural resources, and human health. It is organized into information on the past, present, and future of climate change to lead to a more complete understanding and therefore effective solutions. Placing an emphasis on recent climate change research, Global Climate Change helps to bring researchers and graduate students in climate science, environmental science, and sustainability up to date on the science of climate change so far and presents a baseline for how to move into the future effectively. Addresses the variety of challenges associated with climate change, along with possible solutions Includes suggestions for future research on climate change Covers climate change holistically, including global and regional scales, ecosystems, agriculture, energy, and sustainability Presents both practical and theoretical research, including coverage of climate change over various geological periods
Book Synopsis Global Warming Forecast using Acceleration Factors by : Joseph Nowarski
Download or read book Global Warming Forecast using Acceleration Factors written by Joseph Nowarski and published by Joseph Nowarski. This book was released on 2022-06-06 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication introduces four methods to forecast the global surface temperature over land and ocean (global warming). The methods include a parabolic trendline of the last 61 years of global warming and cumulated CO2 emissions. Two other methods apply the velocity and the acceleration of global warming and cumulative CO2 emissions. The relation between the global surface temperature change and the change in the cumulative CO2 emissions was determined in previous publications as 0.000745°C/GtCO2. The average result from all four methods for the business as usual CO2 mitigation scenario is 4.4°C (4.1°C -5.0°C). According to this forecast, the global temperature change will reach 1.5°C in 2031 (9 years from now) and 2.0°C in 2047 (25 years from now).

Book Synopsis Mobility as a Service and Greener Transportation Systems in a Nordic context by : Anna Laine
Download or read book Mobility as a Service and Greener Transportation Systems in a Nordic context written by Anna Laine and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2018-12-04 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transport sector is a major source of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. This study estimates the potential of digitalized mobility solutions, such as Mobility as a Service (MaaS), to reduce emissions and vehicle kilometers travelled in the Nordic countries. Also, to assess the potential future impact of MaaS, modelling is done to project road transport’s energy consumption, CO2 emissions and total costs in the Nordic countries up to 2050. There are still several barriers to the wider adoption of shared mobility services. We present ways to overcome these barriers with incentives and policy instruments to substitute car ownership, and specify what different actors can do to accelerate this change. Finally we present policy recommendations on how to reduce the dependence on car ownership, reduce the vehicle kilometers driven, and stimulate the demand for greener mobility services.

Book Synopsis Understanding the role of ruminant systems on greenhouse gas emissions and soil health in selected Central Asian countries by : Lopes, J.C., Dondini, M., Zhumanova, M., Rulli, M., Falcucci, A.
Download or read book Understanding the role of ruminant systems on greenhouse gas emissions and soil health in selected Central Asian countries written by Lopes, J.C., Dondini, M., Zhumanova, M., Rulli, M., Falcucci, A. and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2021-05-27 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like many other economies in transition, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan face the dual challenge of promoting development and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and ruminant systems are central for achieving both goals. Given the important economic, nutritional and environmental roles that ruminant systems play in Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, we conducted a GHG assessment (based on Tier 2 methodology according 2006 IPCC Guidelines) to understand the role of ruminants and grasslands in emissions and soil organic carbon sequestration in the region. This study found that enteric methane and manure management are the predominant sources of emissions from cattle systems; however, the study found that regions with high GHG emissions from the cattle systems also had the highest soil carbon stocks. This is mainly due to the high apportion of carbon into the soil from manure and organic amendments. Thus, in these regions, tailored practices could likely reduce GHG emissions through practices that can increase organic carbon storage. This project was the first step in understanding the role of ruminants through advanced GHG accounting methods and serve as a basis for these countries to take on larger climate investment projects and catalyse climate action through sustainable livestock development.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Computable General Equilibrium Modeling by : Peter B. Dixon
Download or read book Handbook of Computable General Equilibrium Modeling written by Peter B. Dixon and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-10-25 with total page 1538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this collection of 16 articles, top scholars synthesize and analyze scholarship on this widely used tool of policy analysis, setting forth its accomplishments, difficulties, and means of implementation. Though CGE modeling does not play a prominent role in top US graduate schools, it is employed universally in the development of economic policy. This collection is particularly important because it presents a history of modeling applications and examines competing points of view. Presents coherent summaries of CGE theories that inform major model types Covers the construction of CGE databases, model solving, and computer-assisted interpretation of results Shows how CGE modeling has made a contribution to economic policy
