Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief captures the contextual features of entrepreneurship by measuring entrepreneurial attitudes, abilities, and aspirations at both the individual- and country-level. Featuring data from the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship and Development Index (GEDI), which measures the quality and scale of the entrepreneurial process in 133 countries around the world, this book provides a tool to help policymakers and governments harness the power of entrepreneurship to address some of the economic challenges faced at the country level. In addition to the yearly data and comparisons, this edition also explores the relationship between entrepreneurship and other measures of development. Distinct from both output-based entrepreneurship indexes (i.e., new firm counts) and process-based indexes (i.e., comparisons of policies and regulations, the GEDI is designed to profile national systems of entrepreneurship. The Index does not simply count new firm registrations nor is it an exercise of policy benchmarking. It also does not focus exclusively on high-growth entrepreneurship; it considers the characteristics of entrepreneurship that enhance productivity, such as innovation, market expansion, globalization, and growth potential. Finally, recognizing that entrepreneurship has a different impact in different economic and institutional contexts, the GEDI combines individual-level data with data that describes national institutions, as well as economic and demographic structures, to provide an institutionally embedded view of the drivers of productive entrepreneurship.

Book excerpt: Entrepreneurship and innovation have emerged globally as significant drivers for inclusive economic growth, contributing to both job and wealth creation. Especially since Egypt's 2011 revolution, the need has become pressing for novel models that capitalize on the country's human resources. Half of the Egyptian population is less than 25 years old and almost one quarter is between 18 and 29 years old. More than any other time, an entrepreneurial spirit and innovative mindset need to be fostered and encouraged to best rebuild the country's economy on solid and sustainable foundations. This important book sheds new light on the promise of entrepreneurship and innovation in restructuring Egypt, and their potential for promoting economic development. It probes the relationship between innovation and economic growth, providing linkages between academic research and applied/industry needs. It also looks at how creativity and innovation can be embedded in the educational system, the challenges facing the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and considers ways to enhance social entrepreneurship. Covering a lot of ground, the authors propose answers and solutions, as well as laying the groundwork for further research and deliberations-in this field in general and in Egypt, at this juncture of the country's development, in particular.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) is a project carried out by a research consortium dedicated to understanding the relationship between entrepreneurship and national economic development. Since 1999 GEM reports have been a key source of comparable data across a large variety of countries on attitudes toward entrepreneurship, start-up and established business activities, and aspirations of entrepreneurs for their businesses. The growing databases increasingly allow for in-depth academic research and this is mirrored by the rapidly increasing amount of GEM-based scientific publications in a wider range of academic journals. At this point it is appropriate to provide an overview on these publications, to summarize their main contributions, and to provide some directions for obtaining promising GEM-based academic contributions in the future. This publication provides a review of 89 GEM-based academic publications in SSCI-listed journals since 2004, with the objectives to highlight the particular advantages of GEM data, their quality and usability, as well as their limitations. It also recommends a number of ways in which the GEM project might evolve further and make more impact on entrepreneurship research, on entrepreneurship policy and practice, and ultimately on getting more grip on the complex relation between entrepreneurship and economic development.

Book excerpt: BOOK DESCRIPTION “Constantly evolving trends in research design have a direct influence on the writing of proposals for research work. As the proposal is essentially a blueprint for an intended project and a smooth flow of project implementation, this new book is a short, fast, easy-go-to guide to give your proposal the needed scientific appeal. The manuscript was built on a research methodology paper that was judged the best in an MBA cohort of over 200 international students at the London School of Commerce/Cardiff Metropolitan University, United Kingdom. For students who are preparing for the Final Project Module and for the development of research skills, this book provides guidelines on how to identify issues, apply appropriate thoughts, and emerge with interesting research ideas as the author did. Specifically for the development of a business research proposal and communication, the reader is also guided in terms of understanding, application, and analysis of theory” - Dr. Akinyinka Akinyoade, Senior Researcher and Chair of the Researchers' Assembly of the African Studies Centre Leiden, The Netherlands. "This book has been able to introduce the rudimentary guidelines of writing a research proposal. Now it is up to you to make yours more innovative than what has been emphasized here. As stated by Peter Drucker, the father of modern business management, "Innovation is the specific instrument of entrepreneurship - the act that endows resources with a new capacity to create wealth." In this case, your innovative research proposal can produce a wealth of knowledge that is useful to you and the society at large" - Grace Eleojo Abalaka (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tropics is an area of enormous opportunity and potential. The countries situated between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn are largely developing in nature. There is huge interest in the types of business investments made in Southeast Asia, Central Africa, and the Amazonian tropical belts. These tropical regions continue to face opportunities and challenges in attracting foreign direct investments as well as the need to complement and/or compete with larger economies external to the tropics. This book provides an empirical assessment of the key sociocultural, economic, environmental, and political factors that influence the business dynamics of organizations operating within the tropics. It will address but is not limited to topics such as attracting businesses to the tropics, facilitating smooth, stable conditions for business operations and sustainability, national institutions, and regulations that shape the way business is done, and the increasing deployment of new technologies and entrepreneurial innovations which are defining the global tropics as a distinct business region. It will offer readers a key focus for developing a deeper understanding of the factors and frameworks that influence and shape business activity in the area. While the primary audience for the book consists of academics and students from the fields of economics (environmental economics, developmental economics), business, international trade, tourism, and area studies, it will also provide a practical resource for government policy analysts wanting to fully appreciate some of the key economic and business issues facing the region.
