Book excerpt: "Giants' Oath" is a captivating story about Eli, a young giant whose heart is as big as Giant's Valley, where he was born. Eli goes on a trip that will change his life with his best friends, Maya, an expert archer with a sharp eye for detail, Finn, a smart healer who knows a lot about nature, and Luna, a talking wolf whose insights make their journey more interesting. Their job is to keep a promise made by the first Nephilim that they would guard people from the evils that live in the world's dark corners. Along the way, Eli and his friends face a number of problems that test their bravery, determination, and loyalty to the oath. They go through beautiful scenery, like mountains that are filled with fear that could make even the bravest people give up, and peaceful woods where the voices of old magic can be heard whispering. They have to solve hard tasks, deal with scary animals, and deal with situations that require the most empathy and understanding. The gang's adventures show how empathy can change things, how strength can come from working together, and how kindness can change everything, whether they're dealing with misunderstood giants who are being tortured by old magic or towns that are filled with fear. Their journey shows that being a true hero isn't about how big or strong you are, but how well you can stand up for others and keep the promises that bring us together. "Giants' Oath" is more than just a fiction book; it teaches us the value of friendship, taking risks, and keeping our word. As Eli and his friends travel the world without fear to inspire and protect people, they show that deeds, not words, are what make a promise strong. Their story makes people believe in the power of every person, no matter how small, by showing how important it is to work together, how to face your fears with courage, and how strong a promise kept is. Chapter 1: The Beginning of the Covenant. People called Nephilim used to live in a magical and strange land. They were very big and strong. These giants lived in peace and harmony in the vast woods and rolling hills. There were older people there who knew a lot and shared their information and stories from the past. One day, under a sky full of stars, the big man known as the first Nephilim got his family together. This man was very brave and smart. He knew the problems people had to deal with because they were smaller than them. People in this group often had to deal with problems that were too big for them to handle on their own, like animals that were dangerous or natural disasters. The Nephilim had stayed away from humans up until that point. They had spent their whole lives being very strong and skilled, which made it easy for them to handle such risks. The first Nephilim were moved by the pain of people to decide that the giants should now help protect their smaller brothers and sisters. In the moonlight, he promised to respect an old oath and protect people no matter what. This wasn't an easy choice because it meant that the Nephilim would always be there for humans, helping out whenever they were needed, even if it meant putting themselves in danger. This word was a promise to be a light of hope when things are bad and to protect people who couldn't protect themselves. As the first Nephilim spoke these words, a mysterious power filled the room and sealed the promise not only in the Nephilim's words but also in their very being. After that, the promise was as important to them as the air they breathed. The promise was made by a single person, but it became a tradition that giants would pass down over time. Every new generation learned the values of being kind, taking an oath, and being responsible to others. The elders would tell stories about what Nephilim did in the name of the promise, like how they fought dangerous animals or helped humans calm nature's anger. The old oath was more than just a promise; it was a promise that the Nephilim would never hurt humans. It meant that strength and power were gifts that should be used to make the world a better place, not just for yourself. The Nephilim have been around for thousands of years because they have a history of being kind and safe. They realized that the way to be truly great was to give rather than receive. So, the old promise lived on as a reminder of how dedicated the Nephilim were to protect humans and making sure that they would always be friends and partners to each other, even when things went wrong. Chapter 2: How Eli was found. The young giant Eli lived in the peaceful Giant's Valley. The valley has green hills, and the wind blows through the big trees. Eli was different from other giants because he was smaller, more curious, and always up for something new. One day, Eli found a book while looking through the back shelves of his family's huge library, which is as old as the valley itself. This was the first book of its kind he had ever seen. This book was very old. The yellowing pages showed how much time had passed, and the symbols on the cover sparkled in the dim light. As soon as Eli opened the book, his heart was racing with excitement as he read about bravery, kindness, and the first Nephilim's old promise to protect people no matter what. As Eli read, his eyes got bigger with shock. He found the sacred promise that his ancestors had made to protect humanity and help them in their time of need. The stories talked about wars that were fought to get rid of the darkness, a giant's gentle hand lifting a downed tree that had ensnared a human town, and the Nephilim's unwavering commitment to their word. It became very important to Eli to follow in the paths of the great giants who had come before him. It dawned on him that he too wanted to protect others, to keep up the bravery and love that his people were known for. Decisive, Eli put down the book and looked out over Giant's Valley, taking in the view with fresh eyes. He thought about protecting people, solving problems bravely, and changing the world from the inside out. He was thrilled to carry on such a great tradition. He knew it wouldn't be easy; being a guardian meant taking a lot of risks and needing to be very strong mentally and physically. Eli was ready to take on the task, though. It dawned on him that the oath was a promise to live by moral standards and preserve the rights of those who can't do it themselves. It was more than just a bunch of words. Under the stars that night, Eli made a promise to himself. To keep the ancient bond, he promised to protect people for the rest of his life, just like his ancestors had done. Eli made a choice that led him on a journey of excitement, friendship, and deep change. He stayed brave even though he knew the journey ahead would be hard. Following the ancient oath and his fearless heart, Eli was ready to leave Giant's Valley and leave his mark as a true protector of people. He would carry on the honorable tradition that had been bestowed upon him. Eli was deeply committed to keeping the old promise. It wasn't just a thought; it gave him a sense of purpose that was unlike anything else he had ever felt. He read the book from cover to cover over the next three days, taking in every story of bravery and selflessness. He understood that keeping the promise meant more than just keeping people safe; it also meant keeping the kindness and unity that all living things shared. The goal was to make a world where all species, big and small, could live together peacefully.

During just another day for the God of Thunder, Thor is defending Asgard against invading trolls when the unthinkable happens—his hammer, Mjolnir, loses its enchantment, depleting Thor's strength. Thor is still more than a match for his enemies; after vanquishing them, he learns the secret to his sudden weakness: Mjolnir has been switched! And only one being is cunning enough to carry out such a trick: Thor's own adopted brother, Loki. As punishment, Odin imprisons Loki for a year, but the trickster soon takes on other forms and escapes his imprisonment. He provokes a dispute between Odin and the giant Hrungnir—one that soon brings a full-scale attack on Asgard and a one-on-one challenge to Thor himself. Dueling with Giants will be followed by two more riveting installments featuring Sif and the Warriors Three, all written by Marvel veteran and popular fantasy author Keith R.A. DeCandido. Are these three historical oddities the reason the CIA is trying to brainwash historian Cameron Thorne and his fiancée Amanda Spencer-Gunn? The answer lies buried in the legends of the Knights Templar, within the rituals of the secretive Freemasons and, most significantly of all, inside the bowels of the Smithsonian Institution. The problem for Cam and Amanda? If they go rummaging around the Smithsonian, they may find themselves buried alongside the ancient giants. Book excerpt: Buckminster Fuller, inventor, thinker and architect, was one of the best known Americans of the twentieth century. Often compared to Leonardo da Vinci and called "the planet's friendly genius," he was the inventor of the geodesic dome, the man who coined the term "spaceship earth," and an educator without parallel. Yet, most of his books are out of print today. To remedy this situation, his longtime friend and architectural partner, Thomas Zung, has compiled a Bucky Fuller reader. This anthology consists of chapters selected from twenty of Bucky's many books, each with a new Introduction by such notables as Arthur C. Clarke, Steve Forbes, Calvin Tomkins, Dr. Martin Meyerson, Sir Harold W. Kroto, Arthur L. Loeb, E. J. Applewhite, and others. Altogether, this book provides an overview of a remarkable intellectual career and the best possible introduction to the man and his thought. Bucky Fuller was one of the most original thinkers and builders that America has ever produced, and this book makes his work available to a new generation at the beginning of a new millennium.

Book excerpt: Huge in stature; living in far-distant wastelands; sometimes comically stupid or crude; but possessing vast wealth and knowledge-such are the giants of Norse myth and legend. Four Icelandic sagas and six tales, spanning five centuries, are brought together for the first time in all-new English translations. All tell of mighty giants, and of the heroes who dared to face them, fight them, and sometimes befriend them. The giants and trolls of old still live on in these legendary sagas of old times. These tales of epic voyages, wars, and romance will appeal to both scholars of Norse mythology and fans of Viking adventure. The sagas include the Saga of the Kjalarnes People, the Saga of Halfdan Brana's Fosterling, the Saga of Sorli the Strong, and the Saga of Illugi Grid's Fosterling. The six shorter tales are: the Tale of Halfdan the Black, the Tale of Hauk High-Breeches, the Tale of Jokul Buason, the Tale of Brindle-Cross, an excerpt from the Saga of the Fljotsdal People, and the Tale of Asmund Ogre-Lucky.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover the untamed paganism of the Vikings and the Germanic tribes prior to the complete Christianization of Europe • Explores the different forms of magic practiced by these tribes, including runic magic, necromancy (death magic), soul-travel, and shape-shifting • Examines their rites of passage and initiation rituals and their most important gods, such as Odin, Loki, and Thor • Looks at barbarian magic in historical accounts, church and assembly records, and mythology as well as an eyewitness report from a 10th-century Muslim diplomat • Reveals the use and abuse of this tradition’s myths and magic by the Nazis Before the conversion of Europe to Christianity in the Middle Ages, Germanic tribes roamed the continent, plundering villages and waging battles to seek the favor of Odin, their god of war, ecstasy, and magic. Centuries later, predatory Viking raiders from Scandinavia carried on similar traditions. These wild “barbarians” had a system of social classes and familial clans with complex spiritual customs, from rites of passage for birth, death, and adulthood to black magic practices and shamanic ecstatic states, such as the infamous “berserker’s rage.” Chronicling the original pagan tradition of free and wild Europe--and the use and abuse of its myths and magic by the Nazis--Hans-Peter Hasenfratz offers a concise history of the Germanic tribes of Europe and their spiritual, magical, and occult beliefs. Looking at historical accounts, church and assembly records, mythology, and folktales from Germany, Russia, Scandinavia, and Iceland as well as an eyewitness report of Viking customs and rituals from a 10th-century Muslim diplomat, Hasenfratz explores the different forms of magic--including charms, runic magic, necromancy, love magic, soul-travel, and shamanic shape-shifting--practiced by the Teutonic tribes and examines their interactions with and eventual adaptation to Christianity. Providing in-depth information on their social class and clan structure, rites of passage, and their most important gods and goddesses, such as Odin, Loki, Thor, and Freyja, Hasenfratz reveals how it is only through understanding our magical barbarian roots that we can see the remnants of their language, culture, and dynamic spirit that have carried through to modern times.

Book excerpt: “MAY ALL THAT YOU WISH TO PROTECT BURN TO ASHES…” Having witnessed the staggering power of the Shadow Monarch, Jinwoo can’t wait to level up and reach those heights, and what better way to do so than to mobilize his army of soldiers against an S-rank dungeon’s worth of giants? Saving a country abandoned by the rest of the world has its benefits—international renown, the expansion of his guild, an invitation to the most prestigious hunter conference in the world—but perhaps the most unexpected bonus is a run-in with another Monarch who brings not-so-welcome tidings. If he’s to be believed, a war is coming that not even Jinwoo is strong enough to stop…
