Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Riddles, Rhyme and Alliteration" is an activity-based resource that encourages children aged 4-7 years to concentrate, listen to and discriminate between different speech sounds. Teachers can use the material separately or as part of a phonics programme, as each activity has the flexibility to be used with individuals, groups or whole classes. Older children who have listening and auditory discrimination difficulties, poor listening skills, and mild to moderate hearing loss or 'glue ear' can also benefit from using the material. Each of the eighteen sections is based on a particular phoneme and includes two or three pages of illustrations to accompany the activities. The activities are photocopiable and include: riddles which can be solved with the help of the picture pages; exercises on alliteration and rhyming words; tongue twisters; a story containing words beginning with the target phonemes; and a puzzle worksheet based on some of the words from the picture pages. All of the activities have clear instructions and are presented orally by the teacher, except the puzzle worksheets that encourage the child to work independently. The picture pages can also be coloured in at school or at home to help consolidate what has been taught. Written by a teacher for teachers, "Riddles, Rhyme and Alliteration" will prove a welcome resource for those who have limited time for preparation.

Book excerpt: In the idyllic town of Willowbrook, a mysterious carnival known as "Chuckles in the Shadows" materializes, bringing with it an aura of enigmatic delight. However, unbeknownst to the cheerful townsfolk, this carnival conceals a hidden agenda—to unleash laughter and merriment upon the world. At the heart of the tale is Aria Kensington, a gifted artist and a fervent advocate for spreading love and laughter through her craft. As the whimsical carnival graces Willowbrook, it sets in motion a series of extraordinary events, uniting a cast of eccentric characters: Charlie Grimshaw, a stand-up comedian with a dark sense of humor; Mortimer Creepy, the undertaker yearning for a clown's legacy; Isabella Moon, a reclusive artist drawn to the macabre; Sheriff Rottenwood, a well-intentioned yet clumsy lawman; Dahlia Nightshade, the mysterious ringmaster; Dr. Ichabod Quirke, a scientist infatuated with the supernatural; Greta Hex, a dramatic fortune teller; and Barnaby Twitch, a ghostly former clown. Through a tapestry of laughter, revelations, and personal growth, each character's journey intertwines with the carnival's magic. "Chuckles in the Shadows: A Ghastly Comedy" explores the transformative power of laughter, the beauty of embracing one's true self, and the unifying spirit of community. This dark comedy invites readers to a realm where laughter is the key to an extraordinary adventure, revealing that even in the shadows, hilarity awaits.

Book Synopsis Riddles of Belonging by : Christi A. Merrill
Download or read book Riddles of Belonging written by Christi A. Merrill and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can the subaltern joke? Christi A. Merrill answers by invoking riddling, oral-based fictions from Hindi, Rajasthani, Sanskrit, and Urdu that dare to laugh at what traditions often keep hidden-whether spouse abuse, ethnic violence, or the uncertain legacies of a divinely wrought sex change. Herself a skilled translator, Merrill uses these examples to investigate the expectation that translated work should allow the non-English-speaking subaltern to speak directly to the English-speaking reader. She plays with the trope of speaking to argue against treating a translated text as property, as a singular material object to be "carried across" (as trans-latus implies.) She refigures translation as a performative "telling in turn," from the Hindi word anuvad, to explain how a text might be multiply possessed. She thereby challenges the distinction between "original" and "derivative," fundamental to nationalist and literary discourse, humoring our melancholic fixation on what is lost. Instead, she offers strategies for playing along with the subversive wit found in translated texts. Sly jokes and spirited double entendres, she suggests, require equally spirited double hearings. The playful lessons offered by these narratives provide insight into the networks of transnational relations connecting us across a sea of differences. Generations of multilingual audiences in India have been navigating this "Ocean of the Stream of Stories" since before the 11th century, arriving at a fluid sense of commonality across languages. Salman Rushdie is not the first to pose crucial questions of belonging by telling a version of this narrative: the work of non-English-language writers like Vijay Dan Detha, whose tales are at the core of this book, asks what responsibilities we have to make the rights and wrongs of these fictions come alive "age after age."

Download or read book to whom my heart belongs written by KMJ and published by Writers Republic LLC. This book was released on 2021-02-19 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'To whom my heart belongs' is a poetry book that I have filled with "love letters" to my partner who has helped me rediscover my creativity after the loss of a major loved one in my life. After the long 8.5 month fight with lung cancer, my Grandmother had lost her fight and I was left shattered. I had suffered the loss of the most reliable person in my life. I was at a such a low point that I had just accepted that love and intimacy would forever be missing from my heart. When I met my partner it was at a time in my life when I had started acting out and considering behaviors of someone that was not the best version of myself. The book itself is a series of poems about my love for him, as well as a newfound love for the person I became when we met. The purpose of this book was to thank him for helping me find myself and continue to in the process of learning who I want to be. It has poems that contain a cheeky lust and a vulnerable love that I've never felt before. It is filled with poured out secrets of my heart that I didn't even know existed before him. What's written inside of this book is more than any fun fact you can learn about me on the internet. In person, I am considered to be confident as well as outspoken and assertive with the things that I wish to have. In my book you will learn that at times I am filled with fearful thoughts on outcomes about how I choose to conduct myself. I am someone who wisely chooses their next set of words. You may meet me and consider me to be articulate and beyond my years. The words you will find in this book may reflect the opposite as I am learning every day how I wish to present myself. These words consist of emotions like self-doubt and uncertainty. The lines you will read will provide insight into the raw relatable yet somehow always unobtainable truth.
