In der folgenden Ausarbeitung möchte ich den Versuch unternehmen einen Überblick über die Gewaltwirkungsforschung in Medien aufzeigen. Dafür ist es sinnvoll Gewaltdarstellungen im historischen Kontext zu betrachten. Es werden Veränderungen und auch gesellschaftliche Handlungsweisen im Umgang mit Gewaltdarstellungen der Vergangenheit sichtbar. Mit einer Begriffsdefinition der Gewalt soll dann der subjektive Charakter des Gegenstandes aufgezeigt werden. Ich gehe auf die Forschung, ihre Theorien und Ansätze zur Gewaltwirkung ein. Verschiedene Forscher und Wissenschaftler haben diesen Bereich der Medienforschung bereits beleuchtet. Ich werde versuchen einige aktuelle Ergebnisse, aber auch vermehrt existierende Theorien darzulegen und sie in ihrer Richtigkeit einzuordnen. Eine erste kritische Betrachtung beschreibt verschiedene Probleme im Forschungsfeld der Gewaltwirkung. Im Weiteren werde ich auf die Medienpädagogik mit ihrer Aufgaben der Vermittlung von Medienkompetenz eingehen. Dazu werde ich ausgewählte Maßnahmen und Projekte vorstellen. Das Schlusswort wird meine Erkenntnisse und Ansichten bezüglich der Fragestellung beinhalten. Hierdurch kommt es dann zu einem kritischen Diskurs, welcher von subjektivem Charakter geprägt ist. Resümierend wird die aktuelle Situation in der Gewaltwirkungsforschung mit den Aufgaben der Medienpädagogik zusammengeführt.

Die kritische Sichtung von Theorien, Untersuchungen und Ergebnisse verschiedener Zweige empirischer Sozialforschung bilden die Basis für dieses Vorhaben und sollen Anhaltspunkte für pädagogische Strategien gegen Jugendgewalt bieten. Bei der Betrachtung des (Untersuchungs-) Gegenstandes „mediale Gewalt“ begegnet man den gegensätzlichsten Positionen. Zunächst fallen die unterschiedlichen Perspektiven auf den Themenkomplex auf. Hier berücksichtigt werden sollen: soziologische, psychologische, kommunikationswissenschaftliche und pädagogische Argumentationen, die zwar im folgenden unterschieden werden, sich aber meistens, aufgrund der inderdisziplinären Ausrichtung der aktuellen Forschung, nicht scharf trennen lassen. Das Spektrum erstreckt sich von Forschungsberichten mit harter empirischer Basis bis hin zu rein ideologischen „Kampfschriften“. Wenn auch in dieser Arbeit, zugunsten der Übersichtlichkeit, eine Betonung der ersten Herangehensweise stattfindet, erscheint zumindest die Erwähnung einzelner besonders auffälliger Vertreter aus der zweiten Gruppe für sinnvoll, ist doch zu bemerken, daß die häufige Instrumentalisierung einzelner Positionen im öffentlichen Streit zwischen Medienwächtern, -kritikern und –machern sowie die Verbreitung bestimmter Alltagshypothesen auf eine unverdient große Bedeutung solcher Literatur speziell in Laien- aber teilweise auch in Fachkreisen hinweist. Neben der Übersicht über die klassischen theoretischen Positionen und einer Diskussion, ausgewählter Beispiele aus der Forschung, soll auch eine Gegenüberstellung mit tatsächlicher (Jugendschutz und Medienpädagogischer) Praxis erfolgen und auf psychoanalytischer Ebene versucht werden, sich den Hintergründen der unversöhnlich verstrittenen Positionen zu nähern.

Hier dominiert weitgehend ungebrochen eine Forschungstradition, der es v. a. darum zu tun ist, individuelles Gewalt handeln vorherzusagen, indem sie einzelne Wirkfaktoren isoliert und be schreibt. Als ein bedeutender Wirkfaktor gelten die audiovisuellen Me dien, hat die hier präsentierte Gewalt doch im Wortsinne "Vor-Bild" Charakter. Eine klare Antwort auf die Frage, ob mediale Gewaltdarstel lungen Wirkungen auf reales Handeln von Menschen haben, und wenn ja, welche dies sind, gibt es bis heute nicht und wird es auch in Zukunft nicht geben. Die Crux dieser Forschungen liegt in dem Versuch, die kom plexe soziale Wirklichkeit, das Lernfeld des Menschen, in isolierte Ein flußgrößen zu zerteilen . . Im konkreten Fall bedeutet dies, mediale Ge waltdarstellungen aus ihrem gesellschaftlichen Entstehungszusammenhang, real existenten Gewaltphänomenen und -verhältnissen, und aus ihrem Wir kungskontext, den realen Gewalterfahrungen der Individuen, zu lösen. Die Folge sind widersprüchliche Ergebnisse, die komplexe Zusammenhänge sim plifizieren. Deren Einfachheit mag bestechen, suggerieren sie doch bün dige Erklärungen und Lösungsmuster für reale Gewalt. Als Grundlage päd agogischen Handelns sind sie jedoch durchweg ungeeignet.
