Download or read book Aloha, Texas! written by Carol Walt and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2007-11-09 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This contemporary romance takes place on the plains of Texas and the tropical paradise of the Island of Kauai, Hawaii. Tessa ODell, a young travel writer, meets and marries rich oil/ranching magnate Clark Marlowe. Their marriage is idyllic for ten years. He dies suddenly, and Tessas grief is deep and protracted. Her mother-in-law Jonita, a crusty old Texas ranching lady, along with her ex-boss, editor of a travel magazine, finally persuade Tessa to go back to work for the magazine. Her first assignment is to cover the Pacific Polo Matches on the island of Kauai. Tessa meets Armand Buteaud, captain of the French polo team and an international play boy. He sweeps her off her feet. She also meets Gil Dobson who is staying with his daughter and grandchildren in the resort compound where Tessa is housed. Gil is middle aged and a talented architect and developer who is moving his ecologically oriented business to Hawaii. Over time, Tessa is drawn more and more into her infatuation with Armand who romances her, but she finds she trusts him less and less. Gil shares his love of nature with her and takes her on several adventures on the island: sailing, flying a biplane in the canyons, beach trips with his granddaughters, dancing the night away. Tessa is drawn to him but senses that he and his family have some secret that they are not sharing with her. A near fatal accident causes Tessa to face her fears...of the water, of the past, and of new relationships. Tessa is finally able to bid aloha to her life in Texas. Carol Walt, the author, guarantees a happy ending to this novel which she calls the quintessential beach book. She researched the book while on the island of Kauai, so the descriptions of the scenery, the polo matches, the adventures and beauty on the island are as close to the reality of this lovely island as possible. Carol thinks that women who have been to Hawaii, or those who would just like to dream of going there, will enjoy this book.

Book Synopsis The Life and Times of Texas Fosbery by : Karen Piffko
Download or read book The Life and Times of Texas Fosbery written by Karen Piffko and published by Heritage House Publishing Co. This book was released on 2000 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late 1940s and 1950s, with the BC Interior ripe for development, Texas Fosbery moved from breaking horses and driving cattle through the Cariboo to driving Caterpillar tractors and breaking roads through the wilds of Kitimat, Kemano, the Nass Valley and the Queen Charlotte Islands. Along the way he moiled for gold in the Yukon, worked at Hell's Gate for the Fisheries Commission and flew small planes to isolated northern lakes. Tex lived his life to the full in a time and place where there were fewer restrictions and supports than there are today. When they got into scrapes, Tex and his brother Tony had to find their own way out. Admittedly "the youngest hobos ever" during the Great Depression, their rough-and-ready beginnings prepared them for years of keeping heavy equipment running "with French safes and haywire," as well as surviving the freaks of weather and machinery that made bush flying in BC a hazardous occupation. Tex's reminiscences are a fascinating and often humorous story of the early years of the British Columbia Interior.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low-Limit Texas Hold'em is the fastest-growing casino poker game. But new players often come to the poker rooms completely unprepared to play a winning game. Even so-called "veteran" players are often long-term losers at the game because they have never taken the time to study how to play or analyze their own individual games. As author Bill Burton clearly shows in Get the Edge at Low-Limit Texas Hold'em, a savvy low-limit player can turn a profit at this game by exploiting the weaknesses of his or her opponents, and developing his or her own strengths. In Get the Edge at Low-Limit Texas Hold'em, you will learn: -- The basics of proper play; the rules; the protocols -- What starting hands to play -- and what starting hands to throw away -- The concept of "table position, " and how that affects what hands to play -- The proper times to check, raise, fold, and check-raise. -- When to bluff and to semi-bluff -- How to win in Low-Limit Hold'em tournaments -- The proper bankroll requirements for the type of games you play in -- How to size up your opponents and their playing styles -- The most common mistakes made by novice or unskilled players. -- How to "read" your opponents' tells to gain the advantage. -- Money-management techniques to handle your bankroll. In addition, Bill Burton explains his own fascinating journey from the kitchen to the cardroom and how, in just a few short months of intensive study and practice, he became a winning player.

GLITTER AND GRIT This ride is going to last a lot longer than eight seconds… Female professional bull rider, Reece Hearst, graduated from the school of hard knocks. With honors. Because life is like bull riding—when it sends you to the dirt, you do whatever it takes to get on your feet, even if you have to crawl. She fixed Lonesome Point in her rearview, joined the pro circuit, and never looked back. But now an injury threatens to end her career and she’s home, living next door to the family that made her life a living hell. After multiple tours of duty, all Grayson Parker wants is to get his family’s cattle business back in the black and live a quiet life. But the return of Reece makes “quiet” impossible. But when he discovers his high school friend, Layla Parker, is newly single he's ready to make a serious play for the one who got away. After barely surviving her first love, Layla's not looking for romance, but it isn’t long before her rekindled friendship with Cole grows into something more—something so sexy and sweet neither one of them wants to put on the brakes. But when a dark secret from the past threatens their shot at forever, Cole will have to decide—listen to his heart or to the people warning him that loving Layla is dangerous. He doesn’t have time for anything but vengeance, especially not a ghost hunter wanting to poke around his family’s ranch. Percy Styles learned about ghosts the hard way, when she was orphaned at the age of seven. She’s in Lonesome Point to document the town’s spectral activity, but finds herself drawn to widower John Lawson. But can she stop the man she’s coming to love from becoming a murderer’s next victim?
