Book Synopsis Biodiversität und Gesellschaft Biodiversity and Society : Gesellschaftliche Dimensionen von Schutz und Nutzung biologischer Vielfalt by : Friedrich, Jan
Download or read book Biodiversität und Gesellschaft Biodiversity and Society : Gesellschaftliche Dimensionen von Schutz und Nutzung biologischer Vielfalt written by Friedrich, Jan and published by Universitätsverlag Göttingen. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The conference “Biodiversity and Society” discussed topics of biodiversity research from the perspective of social sciences and humanities. The inclusion of these perspectives in the until now scientifically orientated biodiversity research is necessary for the definition of conservation goals and value standards, as well as for the development of instruments for the preservation and use of biodiversity. Since the instruments in particular are applied in complex social, economic and legal contexts, these societal conditions should be considered. This proceedings volume presents findings of multiple disciplines and thereby contributes to an integral and fruitful analysis of the human relation to and influence on biodiversity.
Book Synopsis Liminal Spaces and Ethical Challenges by : Christian Danz
Download or read book Liminal Spaces and Ethical Challenges written by Christian Danz and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-11-07 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection moves from COVID to Kairos, engaged with the legacy of Paul Tillich. Liminal spaces reflect ambiguous transitional moments in human consciousness and culture. In early 2020, cultures and states turned inward for protection, exacerbating intertwined health, political, racial justice, and economic crises. Tillich would have understood these overlapping challenges to be heralding a kairotic moment, reflecting simultaneous crises and opportunities. The collected essays reflect on the intersections of COVID and Kairos. Authors engage numerous ethical challenges precipitated by the current Kairos moment, thinking through and with Tillich. Other essays offer reflections on our cultural moment, engaging topics from public health to video games to hate speech. Reflecting on the cultural moment, this collection offers unique insight into the Tillichian legacy for the present and future.

Book Synopsis Border Situations - Crises - Postcritical Creativity by : Hermes A. Kick
Download or read book Border Situations - Crises - Postcritical Creativity written by Hermes A. Kick and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2020-04 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For none of the central survival problems of mankind, which include the increase of the world population, limited resources, transcultural communication problems and information overload, convincing solution concepts exist so far. The areas of tension mentioned are taken up in this volume and placed in the context of overstrain and rebellion of the individual and society. They are the impetus for philosophical thinking and for the conceptualization of the process-dynamic approach as a survival strategy that leads to practical philosophy. Overcoming the borderline situation shows "what man actually is and can become" (Karl Jaspers). Using numerous examples from the fields of psychotherapy, artistic and political action, this book shows that historical and phenomenological analysis needs to be complemented by a process-dynamic approach.

Book Synopsis Staat und Gesellschaft im vorexilischen Juda by : Rainer Kessler
Download or read book Staat und Gesellschaft im vorexilischen Juda written by Rainer Kessler and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The epoch from the eighth century B.C.E. up to the exile is marked by a great transformation in the society of ancient Judah, as reflected especially in the texts of the pre-exilic prophets. A relatively egalitarian society transforms into a class society, wherein a class of wealthy landowners is opposed to a growing class of impoverished farmers. The main factor in this development is the indebtedness of the farmers. All the forces of society and state are afflicted by this transformation. This book endeavours to describe this transformation as precisely as possible, by examining the prophetical texts , and other biblical and epigraphical materials. Unlike the theories of "annuity capitalism" or "antique development" the work especially stresses the role of the state and its organs in this transformation.

This book was released on 2022-06-30 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy offers international perspectives on a wide range of issues in cultural management and cultural policy research and practice. This issue focuses on responses to, and long-term changes in the arts and cultural policy fields related to the current climate, health, and economic crises. The contributions examine organizational and economic models that allow for continued cultural production and community engagement during times of disaster. How can we learn from instantaneous reactions to crises and from cases of disaster mismanagement, and translate these insights into viable practices? What governmental and institutional policies are needed, in the long run, to secure a diverse artistic and cultural landscape? How do research methods, education, and programming need to change to accommodate conditions of crises? Finally, the authors discuss what policies and practices for a resilient arts and cultural sector might look like.

Book Synopsis Communist Parties Revisited by : Rüdiger Bergien
Download or read book Communist Parties Revisited written by Rüdiger Bergien and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ruling communist parties of the postwar Soviet Bloc possessed nearly unprecedented power to shape every level of society; perhaps in part because of this, they have been routinely depicted as monolithic, austere, and even opaque institutions. Communist Parties Revisited takes a markedly different approach, investigating everyday life within basic organizations to illuminate the inner workings of Eastern Bloc parties. Ranging across national and transnational contexts, the contributions assembled here reconstruct the rituals of party meetings, functionaries’ informal practices, intra-party power struggles, and the social production of ideology to give a detailed account of state socialist policymaking on a micro-historical scale.
