Book Synopsis The Germanic Tribes, the Gods and the German Far Right Today by : Georg Schuppener
Download or read book The Germanic Tribes, the Gods and the German Far Right Today written by Georg Schuppener and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Germanic Tribes, the Gods and the German Far Right Today deals with the question of how right-wing extremists in German-speaking countries adapt and adopt elements from the history, culture, and mythology of the Germanic tribes. It provides the first in-depth study of the adoption of these historical motifs by right-wing extremists. Using linguistic and historical perspectives, and drawing on both publicly accessible material and sources gathered by the intelligence services, the book delineates the influence and impact of Germanic tribal history and culture within extremist subcultures. The author demonstrates that references to the Germanic peoples, their history, culture, and mythology, are even more widespread among contemporary right-wing extremists than they were in the interwar National Socialist era. This book will be of interest to researchers of right-wing extremism, German politics, and social movements.
Book Synopsis German Grammar: Reviewed and Retold by : Ulf Schütze
Download or read book German Grammar: Reviewed and Retold written by Ulf Schütze and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-28 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: German Grammar: Reviewed and Retold is a user-friendly grammar/workbook designed to give German learners a great basis to build an in-depth knowledge of spoken and written German. Bridging the gap between grammar, storytelling, and culture, learners of the German language discover Germany’s cultural history as well as life in Germany today, while absorbing grammatical structures through reading and practice. This grammar is based on recent Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research and word frequency, to embed vocabulary and grammar into a language-specific cultural context. A key component of this approach is consistency and relevance, enabling students to apply grammatical structures to their language learning, as well as talking about the past, present, and future. Aimed at ACTFL levels Novice (all) to Intermediate (middle)/CEFR A1 to B1, this is the perfect grammar for post-beginners, combining storytelling with grammar acquisition.
Book Synopsis German Idealism Today by : Markus Gabriel
Download or read book German Idealism Today written by Markus Gabriel and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays provides an exemplary overview of the diversity and relevance of current scholarship on German Idealism. The importance of German Idealism for contemporary philosophy has received growing attention and acknowledgment throughout competing fields of contemporary philosophy. Part of the growing interest rests on the claim that the works of Kant, Fichte, Schelling, Hegel remain of considerable interest for cultural studies, sociology, theology, aesthetics and other areas of interest. In the domain of philosophy, the renaissance of innovative readings of German Idealism has taken scholarly debates beyond merely antiquarian perspectives. This renaissance has been a major factor of current efforts to bridge the gap between so-called “analytic” and so-called “continental” philosophy. The volume provides a selection of well-chosen examples of readings that contribute to systematic treatments of philosophical problems. It contains (among others) contributions by Markus Gabriel, Robert Pippin, Anders Moe Rasmussen, Sebastian Rödl.
Book Synopsis German Politics Today by : Geoffrey K. Roberts
Download or read book German Politics Today written by Geoffrey K. Roberts and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2000-09-02 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first monograph-length study that charts the coercive diplomacy of the administrations of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford as practised against their British ally in order to persuade Edward Heath's government to follow a more amenable course throughout the 'Year of Europe' and to convince Harold Wilson's governments to lessen the severity of proposed defence cuts. Such diplomacy proved effective against Heath but rather less so against Wilson. It is argued that relations between the two sides were often strained, indeed, to the extent that the most 'special' elements of the relationship, that of intelligence and nuclear co-operation, were suspended. Yet, the relationship also witnessed considerable co-operation. This book offers new perspectives on US and UK policy towards British membership of the European Economic Community; demonstrates how US détente policies created strain in the 'special relationship'; reveals the temporary shutdown of US-UK intelligence and nuclear co-operation; provides new insights in US-UK defence co-operation, and re-evaluates the US-UK relationship throughout the IMF Crisis.
