Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peach State has its origins in Atlanta, Georgia, the author’s hometown and an emblematic city of the New South, a name that reflects the American region’s invigoration in recent decades by immigration and a spirit of reinvention. Focused mainly on food and cooking, these poems explore the city’s transformation from the mid-twentieth century to today, as seen and shaped by Chinese Americans. The poems are set in restaurants, home kitchens, grocery stores, and the houses of friends and neighbors. Often employing forms—sonnet, villanelle, sestina, palindrome, ghazal, rhymed stanzas—they also mirror the constant negotiation with tradition that marks both immigrant and Southern experience. Excerpt from “You’re from the South?” As if it had never joined the Union. As if we had to go through Customs when bringing Vidalia onions to uncles and cousins in the North, where Confucians and their brethren flock for education. As if our speech required translation or at least interpretation. As if Hartsfield-Jackson were a plantation, the Amtrak Crescent a moon over rows of cotton, and all of us a population that never saw snow or migration.

Book excerpt: Georgia is known as one of the most competitive proving grounds in America for high school football. The league that began as a few city teams in the late nineteenth century blossomed to the four hundred-plus schools that put teams on the field today. These teams have given college football and the professional ranks their share of champions. As schools across the state continue to chase--and break--records, a century of winning is only the beginning of Georgia's dynamic high school football legacy. Jon Nelson guides readers through an unparalleled history of coaches, towns and dynasties that have led Georgia to become one of the top five most competitive football states in the country.

Book excerpt: This is the ultimate guide book for trophy whitetail deer hunters in the state of Georgia. Pursuing a trophy buck is a heart-pounding thrill. Harvesting a mature whitetail is an accomplishment that most Georgia hunters never experience. The deer in the southeastern corner of the country are some of the most difficult to hunt because the animals here are smarter, more skittish, less forgiving, and harder to pattern than the ones typically seen on TV or read about in magazines. To be successful in the Georgia woods, a hunter must possess knowledge and discipline. This manual was created specifically for the Georgia hunter to gain both. Peach State Precision will guide you through the process to become an elite whitetail hunter in the Peach State. Whether you are a novice or veteran, a gun-hunter or bow-hunter, you will find invaluable instruction in this entertaining and easy read. There is no other item in the hunting store that will be more valuable than this comprehensive manual. Nathan Dallas, a lifelong outdoorsman with a passion for whitetail, will swiftly guide you through practical topics including: Elite mindset Proper planning Strategic travel Using trail cameras Reading signs Hunting clothing Scents and lures Calls Stand setup Wind strategy Understanding the rut Planting and feeding Herd management Common misconceptions Stalking and more

Book excerpt: THE INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLER A warm and stylish Southern cookbook, from the owners of the beloved Nashville-based The Peach Truck, celebrating all things peach in 100 fresh and flavorful recipes. When Stephen and Jessica Rose settled in Nashville, they fell in love with their new city. Their only reservation: Where were the luscious peaches that Stephen remembered from his childhood in Georgia? Amid Nashville’s burgeoning food scene, the couple partnered with his hometown peach orchard to bring just-off-the-tree Georgia peaches to their adopted city, selling them out of the back of their 1964 Jeep Gladiator in Nashville’s farmer’s markets. Since starting their company in 2012, Stephen and Jessica have attracted a quarter of a million followers on social media and have delivered more than 4.5 million peaches to tens of thousands of customers in 48 states. With The Peach Truck Cookbook, the couple brings the lusciousness of the Georgia peach and the savory and sweet charms of Southern cooking, as well as the story behind their success and an insider’s guide to the Nashville food scene, to readers everywhere. From first bites to easy lunches to mouth-watering dinner dishes and sumptuous desserts, The Peach Truck Cookbook captures the Southern cooking renaissance with fresh, delectable, farm-to-table recipes that are easy to follow and feature peaches in every form. Whether you’re craving peach pecan sticky buns, peach jalapeno cornbread, white pizza with peach, pancetta, and chile, or minty peach lemonade—or have always wanted to try your hand at making a classic peach pie—Stephen and Jessica have you covered. Many of Nashville’s most celebrated hotspots and chefs, including Sean Brock, Lisa Donovan, and Tandy Wilson, have contributed recipes, so you’ll also get a how-to on cult menu items such as Sean Brock’s Double Cheeseburger with Peach Ketchup, Mas Tacos Peach Tamales, and Burger Up’s Peach Truck Margarita. Also included are beautiful photographs illustrating each recipe and a pocket peach education—as Jessica and Stephen take you through peach varieties, best harvesting practices, and everything you need to know to have a peach-stocked pantry. Full of character and charm, The Peach Truck Cookbook is not only an essential addition to the peach-lover’s kitchen, it will bring the beauty of summer to your table all year round.
