Book Synopsis The Tourist Region by : Jérôme Piriou
Download or read book The Tourist Region written by Jérôme Piriou and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-04-29 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In geography, a region is one of the most obscure and controversial scientific research objects. However, the tourism sector frequently uses the term, both in the communication of tourism destinations and in daily-life vocabulary, to characterize spatial practices that overtake the scale of a place. That said, a geographic concentration of place, equipment and accommodation does not equate to a tourist region. In order to define the tourist region, this book presents the common thoughts and interpretations of it, which have been advanced by geographers since the beginning of the 20th Century. The Tourist Region also examines stakeholders’ logics that are identified in the practices of a tourist destination in a regional dimension, and explores the tourist region as a territorial co-construction. Finally, this book analyzes multi-level regional networks of tourist places, built according to tourist mobilities. By presenting several measurement methods of the tourist region, this book explains the spatial practices of tourists and anticipates the actions for tourism professionals.
Book Synopsis In Search of the Maquis : Rural Resistance in Southern France 1942-1944 by : H. R. Kedward
Download or read book In Search of the Maquis : Rural Resistance in Southern France 1942-1944 written by H. R. Kedward and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 1993-03-11 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study of the Maquis in southern France, the Resisters who took to the woods and hills in the struggle against the German Occupation in the Second World War. H. R. Kedward's detailed and perceptive account explores what participation in the Maquis meant for those involved both at the time and subsequently. He examines the motivations of the maquisards and how the circumstances of occupation and resistance affected the ways of life of rural communities in the south of France. This is a rich and original book, which achieves a fruitful integration of extensive archival research and oral history. Professor Kedward's scholarly and readable history allows the voices of individuals to be heard, and offers us important insights into the nature of community and regional tradition. From the many fascinating case-studies, fully supplemented by detailed maps, emerge a sense of place, a clearer understanding of the maquisard, and an unsentimental assessment of the place of the Maquis in French history. -

Book Synopsis Gallo-Roman Bronzes and the Process of Romanization: The Cobannus Hoard by : John Pollini
Download or read book Gallo-Roman Bronzes and the Process of Romanization: The Cobannus Hoard written by John Pollini and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-08 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the first comprehensive publication of a cache of eight bronzes from east-central Gaul. The types of objects and accompanying inscriptions suggest that these bronzes originally came from a sanctuary of a god named Cobannus. The first part of the book describes, analyzes, and interprets the individual objects, which are divided between the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Shelby White - Leon Levy Collection. The latter part of this work places the cache within a chronological, cultic, and cultural context. The Cobannus hoard is valuable not only from an artistic point of view but also for the information it provides on many different aspects of the religious, social, and political life of Roman Gaul. The book is lavishly illustrated, with 2 maps and 117 illustrations.
