Book Synopsis Planning and Care for Children and Adolescents with Dental Enamel Defects by : Bernadette K. Drummond

This book was released on 2014-11-24 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Defective development of tooth enamel or dentin is a significant dental problem for children and adolescents in various respects, and dentists and other oral health workers find managing these problems challenging and stressful. While a considerable amount of relevant research is currently being undertaken, much further investigation is needed. This book discusses the known causes of defective dental enamel and explains why it is so difficult to restore. Most importantly, it presents the signs and symptoms that allow accurate diagnosis and documents the best contemporary management. The full range of enamel defects is considered, including defects in primary teeth and permanent teeth, associated syndromes, molar incisor hypomineralization, and genetic defects. The clinical chapters are well illustrated, providing clear guidelines for each procedure. In addition, avenues for future research are identified, with explanation of their rationale.
Book Synopsis Dento/Oro/Craniofacial Anomalies and Genetics by : Agnes Bloch-Zupan
Download or read book Dento/Oro/Craniofacial Anomalies and Genetics written by Agnes Bloch-Zupan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-03-21 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dental defects may be the physical expression of genetic defects, and so they can often be seen in a variety of syndromes associated with malformations of organs. However, dental defects are often not recognized, identified, nor characterised despite representing a possible diagnostic sign for an undiagnosed condition. This book addresses this gap by providing an understanding of dental genetics and its developmental biology counterpart. With approximately seventy well-illustrated examples, the authors present the clinical oro-facial manifestations accompanying various syndromes, providing the necessary knowledge for diagnostic purposes, as well as giving insight into recent development for each specific condition. The clarity and format of this book make it an ideal support guide both in the clinic and while conducting research. Comprehensive examination of dento/oro/craniofacial anomalies Well-illustrated examples Presented in a compact, easy to use format
Book Synopsis The Overlooked Individual: Susceptibility to Dental Caries, Erosive Tooth Wear and Amelogenesis by : Alexandre Rezende Vieira
Download or read book The Overlooked Individual: Susceptibility to Dental Caries, Erosive Tooth Wear and Amelogenesis written by Alexandre Rezende Vieira and published by . This book was released on 2022-02-21 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Individual susceptibility to disease (i.e., one's own genetic background) is one of the three main components classically described in the etiology of dental caries. Hence, genes influence susceptibility to erosive tooth wear, dental development, and response to treatments and interventions. This publication is an up-to-date overview of individual susceptibility to dental caries, erosive tooth wear, and disturbances of dental development from different clinically relevant perspectives. One of the most recognized scientists in this field reports on recent research relating to human genetics - from general summaries to recommendations for daily clinical work and population-level interventions. This book covers all aspects of individual susceptibility to dental caries and erosive tooth wear. Several chapters deal with potential biological mechanisms, with additional ones providing a strong foundation in human genetics, and other chapters touch on efficacy of therapies and alternative concepts. This book is particularly recommended to dental medicine students, practitioners, other oral healthcare professionals, and scientists with an interest in translational research on dental caries and erosive tooth wear.

Book Synopsis Genetic Disorders Among Arab Populations by : Ahmad S. Teebi
Download or read book Genetic Disorders Among Arab Populations written by Ahmad S. Teebi and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1997 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few regions of the world have a more varied physiography or a richer ethnic, religious, social, and cultural mix than the Arab world. As a consequence, Arabs are genetically diverse despite their linguistic and religious cohesion. High but variable rates of inbreeding prevail in all Arab countries with numerous examples of isolates among them. These include some Bedouin groups, Nubians, Druze, Jews, and others. Arab populations have high frequencies of autosomal recessive disorders, homozygosity of autosomal dominant and X-linked traits, and a wealth of new syndromes and variants, the majority of which are autosomal recessive. Genetic disorders that cause major health problems include hemoglobinopathies, neurogenetic disorders, inherited metabolic diseases, and inborn error of morphogenesis. Because of their characteristically high prevalence, some of these disorders are considered markers for Arab populations. This book presents the unique profile of genetic disorders and variants in Arabs. In addition, it describes their unusual demographic pattern including fertility rates and other population dimensions, family structure, magnitude and effects of consanguineous marriages and indicators of health and disease. Genetic counseling and the distinctive cultural and religious attitudes towards various genetic issues are also presented. Disorders that have increased tribal occurrences or are limited to large kindreds, as well as small geographic or religious isolates, are highlighted to facilitate their recognition, study, and management.
