Download or read book General Principles written by A.G. Lee and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-06-28 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in understanding the nature of the biological membrane has been very rapid over a broad front, but still pockets of ignorance remain. Application of the techniques of molecular biology has provided the sequences of a very large number of membrane proteins, and has led to the discovery of superfamilies of membrane proteins of related structure. In turn, the identification of these superfamilies has led to new ways of thinking about membrane processes. Many of these processes can now be discussed in molecular terms, and unexpected relationships between apparently unrelated phenomena are bringing a new unity to the study of biological membranes. The quantity of information available about membrane proteins is now too large for any one person to be familiar with anything but a very small part of the primary literature. A series of volumes concentrating on molecular aspects of biological membranes therefore seems timely. The hope is that, when complete, these volumes will provide a convenient introduction to the study of a wide range of membrane functions. This first volume is devoted to general surveys of the structure and synthesis of membrane proteins and lipids, of the interactions between lipids and proteins, and of the functions of biological membranes.
Book Synopsis Lipid Modifications of Proteins by : Milton J. Schlesinger
Download or read book Lipid Modifications of Proteins written by Milton J. Schlesinger and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-11-30 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only comprehensive one-volume work describing protein-bound lipids Lipid Modifications of Proteins is the first single-volume publication to provide a comprehensive discussion of the five major kinds of protein-bound lipids. The book examines the biochemical activities involved in covalent attachment of different kinds of lipids to proteins, and it indicates the extent of lipid modifications to proteins. The book also thoroughly evaluates current hypotheses on roles of covalent lipids in protein structure and function. This one-of-a-kind volume is essential for molecular biologists, cell biologists, biochemists, biophysicists, microbiologists, and other researchers interested in the effect of lipids on proteins.

Book Synopsis Biotechnology of Yeasts and Filamentous Fungi by : Andriy A. Sibirny
Download or read book Biotechnology of Yeasts and Filamentous Fungi written by Andriy A. Sibirny and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-12 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview on biotechnological applications of unicellular and multicellular fungi in a variety of industrial branches. Targeted genetic and metabolic engineering of fungi allows production of native and transgenic enzymes and proteins in industrial scales. Those most prominently find application in biorefineries for the production of value-added chemicals and biofuels, in the pharmaceutical industry as well as in biomedicine. Each chapter is dedicated to applications and potential beneficial use of particular strains of yeasts and filamentous fungi and their produced biomolecules. The book targets researchers from both academia and industry and graduate students working in microbial biotechnology.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The breadth of modern biology is characterized by a comprehension of phenomena at many levels of organization. Such levels of understanding range from the organismal to the molecular. It is when all these levels can be discussed together that a sense of true achievement begins to be felt. The topical area of fatty acid transport and metabolism was the focus of the Third International Conference on Lipid-Binding Proteins held at the University of Minnesota in May 1997. This volume contains a sampling of the proceedings of this meeting.
