Book Synopsis Geld als Medium in der Antike by : Benedikt Eckhardt
Download or read book Geld als Medium in der Antike written by Benedikt Eckhardt and published by Verlag Antike. This book was released on 2011 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Object Fantasies by : Philippe Cordez
Download or read book Object Fantasies written by Philippe Cordez and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-09-10 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the modern lexicon, ‘object’ refers to an entity that is materially constituted, spatially defined, and functionally determined. In contrast, the Latin word ‘fantasia’ has, since antiquity, referred to an apparition or the ability to imagine something that could be equally an object, an image, or a concept. This tension prompts further inquiry into the interrelations and differences between the experience of tangible objects (their perception and handling) and the creation of new objects (their conception and formation). What correlations exist between object fantasies, the self-consciousness of subjects, and the concrete and imagined conditions of human beings’ social lives? By addressing this question, this interdisciplinary book opens new perspectives in the field of object studies.

Download or read book Roma Victa written by Simon Lentzsch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-24 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the Roman Republic was a military success story. Texts, monuments and rituals commemorated Rome's victories, and this emphasis on its own triumphs formed a basis for the Roman nobility's claim to leadership. However, the Romans also suffered numerous heavy defeats during the Republic. This study is the first to comprehensively examine how Rome's defeats at the hands of the Celts, Samnites, and Carthaginians were explained and interpreted in the historical culture of the Republic and early imperial period. What emerges is a specifically Roman culture of dealing with defeats, which helped the Romans to find meaning in the stories of their failures and to assign them a place in their own past.
