Book Synopsis Game Theory and Policymaking in Natural Resources and the Environment by : Ariel Dinar
Download or read book Game Theory and Policymaking in Natural Resources and the Environment written by Ariel Dinar and published by Taylor & Francis US. This book was released on 2009 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Game Theory has become one of the main analytical tools for addressing strategic issues in the field of economics and is increasing its influence in other fields of social sciences. With the increased level of extraction of natural resources and pollution of environments, game theory gains its place in the literature and it is more and more seen as a tool for policy makers and not only for theoreticians. The book is structured into four parts dealing with the management of natural resources, the negotiation aspects of water management, water allocation through pricing and markets, and how conflicts and regulation shape the management of the environment. The first part explores game theory concepts applied to fisheries and grazing lands, which are two important natural resources. In the next two parts, several game theory methodologies are considered in the negotiation approach to water management and approaches to water pricing and markets. The last section looks at environmental protection as the end process of the interplay between conflict and regulation. This book includes chapters by experts from developing and developed countries that apply game theory to actual issues in natural resources and the environment. As such the book is extremely useful for graduate students and technical experts interested in the sustainable management of natural resource and the environment. It is also relevant to all Game Theory and Environmental Economics students.

Book Synopsis Game Practice and the Environment by : Carlo Carraro
Download or read book Game Practice and the Environment written by Carlo Carraro and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarises the latest achievements of researchers involved in the application of game theory to the analysis of environmental matters. It provides an overview of different methods and applications, and gives the reader new insights on the solutions to complex environmental problems. The authors investigate various game theoretic approaches, including cooperative and non-cooperative game theory, and analyse both dynamic and static games. They illustrate the application of these approaches to global and local environmental problems, and present novel but effective tools to support environmental policy making. In particular, they focus on three important issues; climate negotiations and policy, the sharing of environmental costs, and environmental management and pollution control.
Book Synopsis Cooperative Game Theory and Its Application to Natural Environmental and Water Resource Issues: 2. Application to Natural and Environmental Resources by : Stefano Zara, Fioravante Patrone, Ariel Dinar
Download or read book Cooperative Game Theory and Its Application to Natural Environmental and Water Resource Issues: 2. Application to Natural and Environmental Resources written by Stefano Zara, Fioravante Patrone, Ariel Dinar and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2006 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: This paper provides a review of various applications of cooperative game theory (CGT) to issues of natural and environmental resources. With an increase in the level of competition over environmental and natural resources, the incidents of disputes have been at the center of allocation agreements. The paper reviews the cases of common pool resources such as fisheries and forests, and cases of environmental pollution such as acid rain, flow, and stock pollution. In addition to providing examples of cooperative solutions to allocation problems, the conclusion from this review suggests that cooperation over scarce environmental and natural resources is possible under a variety of physical conditions and institutional arrangements. CGT applications to international fishery disputes are especially useful in that they have been making headway in policy-related agreements among states and regions of the world. Forest applications are more local in nature, but of great relevance in solving disputes among communities and various levels of governments.

Book Synopsis Game Theory and Fisheries Management by : Lone Grønbæk
Download or read book Game Theory and Fisheries Management written by Lone Grønbæk and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-18 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first to present in a systematic manner the application of game theory to fisheries management at both international and national levels. Strategic interaction among fishers and nations exploiting fishery resources is an inescapable fact of life. This has long been recognized at the international level, and is becoming increasingly recognized at the national/regional level. It follows, therefore, that, in order to be able to analyse effectively the management of these resources, the theory of strategic interaction ̶ game theory ̶ must be brought to bear. In this book the step-by-step development of the game theory is accompanied by numerous applications to the real world of fisheries management policy. As such, it is designed to appeal to policy makers and stakeholders, as well as to graduate students in Economics.
Book Synopsis Game Theory and International Environmental Cooperation by :
Download or read book Game Theory and International Environmental Cooperation written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Key environmental issues, such as biodiversity and climate change, have in recent years become more pressing than ever. Where the critical papers in the early 1990s explained the difficulties of cooperation in tackling transboundary environmental problems, later works have analyzed the various alternatives, and increased our understanding of various institutional designs and negotiation protocols' impact on the success of cooperation. This Research Review identifies the most important articles on the game theoretic analysis of international environmental cooperation to both confront the cooperative and non-cooperative approaches to this, and demonstrate the diversity of methods used to analyze international environmental agreements

Book Synopsis Natural Resource And Environmental Policy Analysis by : George M Johnston
Download or read book Natural Resource And Environmental Policy Analysis written by George M Johnston and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-28 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As natural resources have become scarcer, issues of environmental policy have become more vital and subject to debate in global as well as local arenas. Through the use of case studies especially developed for this book, the authors analyze the wide range of institutional contexts in which natural resource and environmental policy issues arise and the processes by which they are resolved. The first chapter provides a theoretical framework of key resource and environmental economics concepts-an overview that gradually broadens as the student is exposed to alternative methods of analysis, including market-oriented analysis, institutional analysis, and modeling. The case studies all begin with discussions of the pertinent biological, physical, social, and institutional issues before economic analysis is applied and policy conclusions are drawn. Suggested readings and study questions follow each chapter. This book is designed for use in upper-level college courses in natural resource and environmental economics and graduate courses in resource management. It can be used either as a primary text in conjunction with theoretical readings or as a supplemental source of case study readings. The cases will also be valuable for natural resource, environmental, and community development economists.
