Download or read book Hazon Gabriel written by Matthias Henze and published by Society of Biblical Lit. This book was released on 2011 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its rediscovery a decade ago, the Hazon Gabriel or Gabriel Revelation, a Hebrew inscription of the first century B.C.E., has attracted considerable attention. The inscription, of which about 87 lines are preserved, written in black ink on a slab of gray limestone, has been compared to the Dead Sea Scrolls. This book makes accessible in one place all existing editions of the Hazon Gabriel together with annotated English translations and offers initial interpretations of the text as a whole, its language, and its most prominent motifs. The volume, originating from a 2009 conference at Rice University, compares the Gabriel Revelation to other literature of the time—the book of Daniel, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the New Testament in particular—to determine its place in early Judaism. The contributors are David Jeselsohn, Ada Yardeni and Binyamin Elizur, Elisha Qimron and Alexey (Eliyahu) Yuditsky, Israel Knohl, Gary A. Rendsburg, Adela Yarbro Collins, John J. Collins, Matthias Henze, Kelley Coblentz Bautch, Daewoong Kim, and David Capes.

Courageously, unbeknownst to family and friends, Camilla works for the Underground Railroad. This dangerous secret rivals Gabriel's own. And the unlikely partnership they forge could be the key Gabriel seeks to a soul-shaking truth larger than any conflict—love.
Book Synopsis Peter Gabriel, From Genesis to Growing Up by : Sarah Hill
Download or read book Peter Gabriel, From Genesis to Growing Up written by Sarah Hill and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since Peter Gabriel fronted progressive rock band Genesis, from the late 1960s until the mid 1970s, journalists and academics alike have noted the importance of Gabriel's contribution to popular music. His influence became especially significant when he embarked on a solo career in the late 1970s. Gabriel secured his place in the annals of popular music history through his poignant recordings, innovative music videos, groundbreaking live performances, the establishment of WOMAD (the World of Music and Dance) and the Real World record label (as a forum for musicians from around the world to be heard, recorded and promoted) and for his political agenda (including links to a variety of political initiatives including the Artists Against Apartheid Project, Amnesty International and the Human Rights Now tour). In addition, Gabriel is known as a sensitive, articulate and critical performer whose music reflects an innate curiosity and deep intellectual commitment. This collection documents and critically explores the most central themes found in Gabriel's work. These are divided into three important conceptual areas arising from Gabriel's activity as a songwriter and recording artist, performer and activist: 'Identity and Representation', 'Politics and Power' and 'Production and Performance'.

Betrayed by someone they trusted, the warriors were cursed, one by one, tossed into the maelstrom of time, imprisoned in stone, their freedom resting on nearly impossible conditions. Until. . . . Gabriel Halldor. . . one of the fiercest warriors the world has ever seen, but his tremendous skill can't save him from a sorcerer's curse. Trapped in stone and left lying in darkness for thousands of years, he is, at long last, brought into the sunlight of a Japanese garden, where a young girl comes to sit at his feet and read him stories as she grows to womanhood. Hana Himura. . . beloved granddaughter of a Japanese mob boss, raised to the life of a warrior. When death comes for her grandfather, he sends her to the one guardian courageous enough to protect her from a sorcerer who will stop at nothing to have her. Running from the certain death that awaits them in Japan, Hana and Gabriel flee to Malibu and the vampire lord her grandfather called friend. Book Synopsis Time in the Philosophy of Gabriel Marcel by : Helen Tattam
Download or read book Time in the Philosophy of Gabriel Marcel written by Helen Tattam and published by MHRA. This book was released on 2013 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gabriel Marcel (1889-1973) stands outside the traditional canon of twentieth-century French philosophers. Where he is not simply forgotten or overlooked, he is dismissed as a 'relentlessly unsystematic' thinker, or, following Jean-Paul Sartre's lead, labelled a 'Christian existentialist' - a label that avoids consideration of Marcel's work on its own terms. How is one to appreciate Marcel's contribution, especially when his oeuvre appears to be at odds with philosophical convention? Helen Tattam proposes a range of readings as opposed to one single interpretation, a series of departures or explorations that bring his work into contact with critical partners such as Henri Bergson, Paul Ricoeur and Emmanuel Lévinas, and offer insights into a host of twentieth-century philosophical shifts concerning time, the subject, the other, ethics, and religion. Helen Tattam's ambitious study is an impressively lucid account of Marcel's engagement with the problem of time and lived experience, and is her first monograph since the award of her doctorate from the University of Nottingham.

Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK Colombian-born author Gabriel García Márquez, or "Gabo" as he is known, is the preeminent figure among Latin American writers and an internationally recognized leader in contemporary literature. García Márquez, a writer, journalist, political activist and screenwriter, is considered the "father of magical realism," spawning a new genre of literature forty five years ago with a solitary composition. To date, the Nobel Prize-winning author has written more than twenty works, including novels, novellas, short stories, and nonfiction, which have resulted in numerous adaptations as plays and films. One Hundred Years of Solitude alone has sold more than thirty million copies throughout the world, with translations of his works appearing in thirty five languages. In this compact volume, gain an understanding of García Márquez the man and his most respected works. MEET THE AUTHOR Angela Bussone received a juris doctor and Advanced Legal Research, Writing and Drafting Certificate from Florida Coastal School of Law, where she served on the Law Review Board as technical editor. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Florida, where she was president of the Playwrights' Club, Features Editor for the school's newspaper, and wrote a play selected for the New South Young Playwrights Festival at the Horizon Theatre Co. Her writings have appeared in The Florida Times-Union, where she was a writer; the Florida Coastal Law Review, and in various publications and academic journals. She lives in a small coastal town in Northeast Florida with her husband and six-pound Persian cat, where she performs as violinist and composes songs for an Americana band, supports the local symphony and artists, and volunteers her time with organizations devoted to encouraging literacy, protection and enjoyment of the ocean, and preventing homelessness. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Although García Márquez has permeated the literary world and has been just as equally embraced, his career has not been without controversy. Last September of 2011, The Guardian reported copies of García Márquez's book, News of a Kidnapping, had sold out in Iran because of comments by opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, who was reported in The Guardian as saying the book's account of kidnappings in Colombia as "an accurate reflection of his life under house arrest." News of a Kidnapping gives the account of the kidnappings of prominent Colombians in the 1990s under the direction of Pablo Escobar. A piece in The Atlantic by William Kennedy uncovers the financial strain during this period for the family, and how Mercedes got the family through it by selling most of the couple's possessions and borrowing twelve thousand dollars from family and friends. García Márquez told Kennedy he was unaware of how Mercedes was able to provide during this time, but never asked any questions. Yet a supply of whiskey and "[g]ood Scotch" was always on hand for the writer and future Nobel Prize winner in his Mexico City "Cave of the Mafia" writing space, where he spent eight to ten hours a day writing.
