Book excerpt: Basic fluid dynamic theory and applications in a single, authoritative reference The growing capabilities of computational fluid dynamics and the development of laser velocimeters and other new instrumentation have made a thorough understanding of classic fluid theory and laws more critical today than ever before. Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics is a vital repository of essential information on this crucial subject. It brings together the contributions of recognized experts from around the world to cover all of the concepts of classical fluid mechanics-from the basic properties of liquids through thermodynamics, flow theory, and gas dynamics. With answers for the practicing engineer and real-world insights for the student, it includes applications from the mechanical, civil, aerospace, chemical, and other fields. Whether used as a refresher or for first-time learning, Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics is an important new asset for engineers and students in many different disciplines.
Book Synopsis Turbulent Boundary-layer Temperature Recovery Factors in Two-dimensional Supersonic Flow by : Maurice Tucker
Download or read book Turbulent Boundary-layer Temperature Recovery Factors in Two-dimensional Supersonic Flow written by Maurice Tucker and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical method is presented for obtaining turbulent temperature recovery factors for a thermally insulated surface in supersonic flow. The method is an extension of Squire's analysis for incompressible flow. The boundary layer velocity profile is represented by a power law and a similarity is postulated for squared-velocity the static-temperature-difference profiles.
Book Synopsis Industrial Ventilation Design Guidebook by : Howard D. Goodfellow
Download or read book Industrial Ventilation Design Guidebook written by Howard D. Goodfellow and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2001-04-17 with total page 1602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Industrial Ventilation Design Guidebook addresses the design of air technology systems for the control of contaminants in industrial workplaces such as factories and manufacturing plants. It covers the basic theories and science behind the technical solutions for industrial air technology and includes publication of new fundamental research and design equations contributed by more than 40 engineers and scientists from over 18 countries. Readers are presented with scientific research and data for improving the indoor air quality in the workplace and reducing emissions to the outside environment. The Guidebook represents, for the first time, a single source of all current scientific information available on the subject of industrial ventilation and the more general area of industrial air technology. New Russian data is included that fills several gaps in the scientific literature. * Presents technology for energy optimization and environmental benefits * A collaborated effort from more than 60 ventilation experts throughout 18 countries * Based on more than 50 million dollars of research and development focused on industrial ventilation * Includes significant scientific contributions from leading ventilation experts in Russia * Presents new innovations including a rigorous design methodology and target levels * Contains extensive sections on design with modeling techniques * Content is well organized and easily adaptable to computer applications

Book Synopsis Oceanographical Engineering by : Robert L. Wiegel
Download or read book Oceanographical Engineering written by Robert L. Wiegel and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As is the case with many modern fields of study, oceanographical engineering cuts across the boundaries of several disciplines. Like other scientific endeavors, it aims to understand the nature of the ocean and to make use of this understanding for the benefit of humanity through better ports, safer and more economical operations at sea, and greater use of the oceans' natural resources--food, raw materials, and recreation. This graduate-level text requires a knowledge of fluid mechanics; a background in the motions of sediments in fluids is advisable, as is a concurrent course in structural dynamics. Topics include the theory of periodic waves; tsunamis, storm surges, and harbor oscillations; the effect of structures on waves; waves in shoaling water; tides and sea level changes; currents; shores and shore processes; some characteristics of the oceans' waters; moorings; and other related subjects. Certain portions of the book pertaining to the distribution of temperatures and salinities in the ocean are largely descriptive; other portions, such as the sections on waves, are mathematical. Numerous drawings and photographs supplement the text.

Book Synopsis A Voyage Through Turbulence by : Peter A. Davidson
Download or read book A Voyage Through Turbulence written by Peter A. Davidson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-08 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulence is widely recognized as one of the outstanding problems of the physical sciences, but it still remains only partially understood despite having attracted the sustained efforts of many leading scientists for well over a century. In A Voyage Through Turbulence we are transported through a crucial period of the history of the subject via biographies of twelve of its great personalities, starting with Osborne Reynolds and his pioneering work of the 1880s. This book will provide absorbing reading for every scientist, mathematician and engineer interested in the history and culture of turbulence, as background to the intense challenges that this universal phenomenon still presents.

Book Synopsis Comparison Between Theoretical and Experimental Stresses in Circular Semimonocoque Cylinders with Rectangular Cutouts by : Harvey G. McComb
Download or read book Comparison Between Theoretical and Experimental Stresses in Circular Semimonocoque Cylinders with Rectangular Cutouts written by Harvey G. McComb and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comparisons are made between a theory for calculating stresses about rectangular cutouts in circular cylinders of semimonocoque construction published in NACA TN 3200 and previously published NACA experimental data. The comparisons include stresses in the stringers and shear stresses in the center of the shear panels in the neighborhood of the cutout. The theory takes into account the bending flexibility of the rings in the structure, and this factor is found to be important in the calculation of stresses about cutouts. In general, when the ring flexibility is considered, good agreement is exhibited between the calculated and experimental results.
