Life may be hard in the late 1930s, but it is nothing compared with what is about to follow. Grace’s beloved fiancé Stanley decides to enlist in the fight against Nazi Germany. Download or read book The Coffey Files written by Joseph Coffey and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A true crime account of the old-school New York Police Department from the detective who helped catch the Son of Sam and waged a one-man war against the Mafia. In 1978, a gang war erupted in New York City, and the five boroughs ran red with blood. Men with names like “Matty the Horse” and “Tony Ugly” were found dismembered in garbage dumps, dead on the roadside in the far reaches of the Bronx, or suffocated in the trunks of cars parked at LaGuardia Airport. For years, the New York Police Department hadn’t bothered to investigate Mafia murders, preferring to let the mob handle its own bloody affairs—but that was about to change. The NYPD was going to war with the Cosa Nostra, and Det. Joseph Coffey would lead the charge. A hard-nosed veteran of the force, Detective Coffey took down some of the highest-profile organized-crime associations of the 1970s, from the conspiracy between the Mafia and the Catholic Church known as the Vatican Connection to the homegrown terrorists who called themselves the Black Liberation Army. In 1977, when the city was terrorized by serial killer David Berkowitz, better known as the Son of Sam, Coffey led the NYPD’s nighttime operations as they worked to lure the murderer into a trap. But the war against the mob would be his greatest challenge—one that would take him right into the heart of gritty, dangerous NYC. Cowritten by New York Daily News veteran Jerry Schmetterer, Coffey’s work is crime reporting at its finest. Fans of the two-fisted journalism of Jimmy Breslin and New York stories like The French Connection will find The Coffey Files has the thunderous intensity of a runaway subway train.

Book excerpt: 'Jimmy's love of nature is second to none - what a beautiful read' Jamie Oliver 'Running a wildlife park is a complex job. To do it you need knowledge that varies from animal biology to how to get an ancient tractor running after a harsh frost. If there's a more diverse job, I'd like to hear about it. But the massive upside of all that hard work is simple. At all times you're embedded in the landscape and the lives of those incredible animals which depend on it - a beautiful natural gift which you are forever unwrapping.' Twenty years ago, Jimmy Doherty started a farm for rare breed pigs on some derelict land in Suffolk. Now a thriving wildlife park, which is home to many different species of animal, this book chronicles the journey that Jimmy and his family have found themselves on over the years. In Tales From Jimmy's Farm, Jimmy reveals how he made his childhood dream of having his own wildlife park a reality - how, starting with a few rare breed pigs, he would transform a derelict and forgotten Suffolk farm into an A-Z of the animal world, from anteaters to zebras. Taking us on a journey through the seasons - spring lambs to rutting reindeer, sun-loving meerkats to festive monkeys - Jimmy reveals the ups and downs of a life immersed in the natural world, and explains how we too, wherever we may live, can benefit ourselves and the planet by embracing the remarkable animals around us.

There have been others before. None, though, as perfect as him. Why would she let him leave? Praise for Elle Connel: "Down By The Water takes the reader on a weekend trip from hell... Book Synopsis Urban Regeneration and Neoliberalism by : Clare Kinsella
Download or read book Urban Regeneration and Neoliberalism written by Clare Kinsella and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the concept of ‘home’ in Liverpool over phases of ‘regeneration’ following the Second World War. Using qualitative research in the oral history tradition, it explores what the author conceptualises as ‘forward-facing’ regeneration in the period up to the 1980s, and neoliberal regeneration interventions that ‘prioritise the past’ from the 1980s to the present. The author examines how the shift towards city centre-focused redevelopment and ‘event-led’ initiatives has implications for the way residents make sense of their conceptualisations of ‘home’, and demonstrates how the shift in regeneration focus, discourse, and practice, away from Liverpool’s neighbourhood districts and towards the city centre, has produced changes in the ways that residents identify with neighbourhoods and the city centre, with prominence being given to the latter. Employing Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of habitus and field as mechanisms for understanding different senses of home and shifts from localised views to globalised views, this book will appeal to those with interests in urban sociology, regeneration, geography, sociology, home cultures, and cities.
