Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fundamentals of a Cost System for Manufacturers, July 1, 1916 It is necessary to-day for the business man's success that he know on what articles he is making a profit and on what he loss. Competitive conditions are seriously disturbed on one or more articles are recovered by profits on other articles. It is obvious that a manufacturer should not only know the cost of each article he manufactures but that he should see that every arti'cle manufactured bears its proper share of factory and general overhead. Most manufacturing plants have grown to a size which renders personal supervision impossible. The only reliable way, therefore, by which an executive can judge of the efficiency of an organization is through a system of periodical statistical reports. These reports can only be accurately obtained when a good cost system is in operation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
