Besides, a high labour turnover rate causes high costs because it takes time until new employees are trained. Based on this, it is reasonable to create a high commitment by understanding the needs of every employee. The way of fulfilling the diverse motives is attended by different generations which raise the challenge of meeting everybody's needs. The different classification will be explained within this thesis in detail. As a consequence of demographic, social and economic developments, the resources of young talents in the labour market are steady decrease which will continue in the future. By this reason the employer attraction and the duty of creating a high commitment of qualified staff plays already an important role for the business success. Due to a low birth rate and an aging population, the German population has shrunken for the last decades which already affected the labour market. This created new challenges for the economy and the organisations. Hence, companies are under high pressure to find and implement appropriate actions in the so-called war for talents. One of the main problems refers to fight for young talents and to deal with increasing value diversity. At this point, a change on the part of the corporate strategy of organizations is required. Taking a closer look on this modification, the Human Resources strategy needs to be reviewed.

As the awareness for sustainability issues prevails, the call for a substantial paradigm shift in corporate mindsets emerges: For any sustainability strategy to be successful, the affected employees need to be aligned and engaged behind it. Human Resource Development (HRD) as proper training enabler for such strategies offers important voice and expertise to realize the true satisfaction of sustainability ambitions. At the present time of globalization and due to the critical need to consider environmental, social, and financial consequences of business operations, the sustainability movement cannot be considered a passing trend. Since HRD is expected to play a facilitative role in establishing corporate sustainability, this work proposes theoretical approaches linking HRD with sustainability and corporate responsibility. The empirical purpose of this study is to investigate the current engagement of HRD in the field, examining one fundamental question: Assuming that employees are key success factors for sustainability strategies, how can HRD professionals and departments ensure that sustainable behavior will be part of all members of a company? Drawing from qualitative expert interviews with senior HRD managers of large companies that declare explicit commitment to sustainability within different industries, the evidence shows that their engagement still tends to be limited. This research concludes with an argument for greater involvement of HRD in corporate sustainability endeavors and offers suggestions for research and practice towards this end.

Book excerpt: Both in research and in practice, a number of basic competencies are considered necessary for successful process-oriented coaching and consulting activities. In the present research work, the extent to which these necessary competencies are related to vertical personality development was investigated. Loevinger's model of ego development, a stage theory of development, provides the frame of reference for this study. This paper fully summarizes the current state of research on the model in order to comprehensively analyze possible relationships with coaching and consulting competencies. As a first step, the competency requirements of selected coaching and consulting associations were analyzed to determine whether they are related to ego development and whether they express minimum requirements for ego development. The analysis revealed that the competency requirements of all associations show clear parallels to aspects of ego development. The majority of these requirements point to a fully developed, self-governed stage (E6) of ego development as a prerequisite for process-oriented coaching and consulting services. In a second step, empirical studies were examined to systematically analyze the relationship between ego development and aspects relevant to coaching and consulting. The results of the current empirical studies show a clear correlation between these competencies and ego development. This means that as ego development increases, higher coaching and consulting competencies become more likely. Many studies also indicate that a fully developed, self-governed stage of ego development can be expected as the basis for consistent work at an intermediate level of competence.
