Zunächst wird auf die Partizipation im Wandel eingegangen. Hierbei geht es darum, die Organisationsmitglieder von den Veränderungsvorhaben zu überzeugen. Dies gelingt am besten, wenn die Mitarbeiter motiviert sind und sich am Wandel beteiligen. Hierzu werden geeignete Wandlungsstrategien benötigt, durch die motivationale Effekte erzeugt bzw. erhalten werden können. Bei der Planung von Veränderungen spielt der erforderliche Partizipationsgrad eine entscheidende Rolle und gilt als strategischer Faktor bei der Planung von Veränderungen. Der Handlungsspielraum, den das einzelne Organisationsmitglied bei seiner Tätigkeit hat, ist Ausgangspunkt der meisten Überlegungen zur Erhöhung der Arbeitszufriedenheit. Zur Bewertung der Motivation wird das „Job Characteristics Model“ von Hackman und Oldham zu Grunde gelegt. Entscheidend ist in diesem Modell, dass die Wahrnehmung des Individuums bezogen auf seinen Handlungsspielraum für die Arbeitszufriedenheit ausschlaggebend ist. Im darauf folgenden Teil wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie sich das Change Management auf die Führungskräfte auswirkt. Dabei wird sowohl auf die veränderten Anforderungen des Arbeitsplatzes als auch auf die neuen Umfeldbedingungen eingegangen. Anschließend wird gezeigt, dass sich Führungskräfte aller Stufen als Promotoren des Wandels begreifen und sich dementsprechend verhalten müssen. In allen acht Stufen der Führung im Wandel, ist es notwendig, dass sich Leadership- und Managementfähigkeiten ergänzen. Zum Schluss der Arbeit wird kurz auf die spezifischen Anforderungen eingegangen, die die unterschiedlichen Veränderungssituationen an die Führungskräfte stellen.

Dazu ist es erforderlich das Unternehmen ständig aufs Neue den wechselnden Anforderungen der Kunden und den kontinuierlich verbesserten technologischen Möglichkeiten anzupassen, um überhaupt konkurrenzfähig zu sein. Unternehmen, in denen sich in der Vergangenheit Wandlungsphasen mit eher statischen Phasen abwechselten, sehen sich, aufgrund der rasanten Entwicklung auf den Märkten, immer mehr in einer Situation ständigen Wandels, der zunehmend durch parallel und sich überschneidende Veränderungsprozesse gekennzeichnet ist. Der Wandel ist nicht mehr die Ausnahme, sondern die Regel geworden. Welche Anforderungen müssen nun aber Unternehmen erfüllen um den Wandel erfolgreich zu gestalten und welche Anforderungen werden an die Fähigkeiten der Mitarbeiter und insbesondere der Führungskräfte gestellt? Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich schwerpunktmäßig mit den Anforderungen an die Kernkompetenzen von Führungskräften in Veränderungsprozessen. This can be illustrated by two - amples from current events: Where the range of taught courses is concerned, as part of the Bologna Process the new structuring of student study paths and their organisation is aimed at unifying the European area of science to ensure a study that is equally permissive and efficient. However, it is to be deplored that the mobility of s- dents has become more restricted because of an increasing specialisation in the available study paths. Also, bachelor degrees do not meet with the anticipated high response from the labour market in all countries, so that the master’s degree is becoming more or less a ‘must’, while at the same time the number of study places on master’s courses is limited. Instead of the intended reduction in the duration of study time in comparison to the previous German ‘Magister’ and ‘Diplom’, rather a prolongation in the duration of studies has been recorded.

At the crux of the issue surrounding the contribution of nature to development is the study that Jerome Kagan and his colleagues have been conducting for more than two decades. In The Long Shadow of Temperament, Kagan and Nancy Snidman summarize the results of this unique inquiry into human temperaments, one of the best-known longitudinal studies in developmental psychology. These results reveal how deeply certain fundamental temperamental biases can be preserved over development. Identifying two extreme temperamental types—inhibited and uninhibited in childhood, and high-reactive and low-reactive in very young babies—Kagan and his colleagues returned to these children as adolescents. Surprisingly, one of the temperaments revealed in infancy predicted a cautious, fearful personality in early childhood and a dour mood in adolescence. The other bias predicted a bold childhood personality and an exuberant, sanguine mood in adolescence. These personalities were matched by different biological properties. In a masterly summary of their wide-ranging exploration, Kagan and Snidman conclude that these two temperaments are the result of inherited biologies probably rooted in the differential excitability of particular brain structures. Though the authors appreciate that temperamental tendencies can be modified by experience, this compelling work—an empirical and conceptual tour-de-force—shows how long the shadow of temperament is cast over psychological development.

Book excerpt: In September 2018 the criminal law section of the 72nd Deutscher Juristentag (DJT, “German Assembly of Jurists”) debated the question “Sentencing Guidelines vs. Free Judicial Discretion – Is German Sentencing Law in Need of Reform?” Despite the expert opinion provided by Johannes Kaspar and the accompanying scholarly commentaries, ensuing proposals for fundamental reform met with rejection. The comparative perspective was limited to the US Federal sentencing guidelines. The intention of this volume is therefore, on the one hand, to draw a more nuanced picture of Anglo-American sentencing law focusing on three legal systems (England/Wales, USA and Canada) accompanied by commentaries from a German perspective; on the other hand, we want to make the German perspective (better) known within the Anglo-American legal world by reproducing important DJT documents in English language. To ensure the widest possible distribution we opted for a bilingual open access publication.
